Apologies if a new thread isn't the right place for this, but it genuinely is excellent! They even incorporate the pizz bass from E.T. - excellent arrangement

Holy freakin' crap!!! That was incredible!!!!!

I was expecting to just watch a minute or two, but then I heard their E.T. arrangement -  - and I knew I had to listen till then end.

    The full ensemble harmony!

These guys should get a Grammy!

The staccato bass stuff in most of the themes in particular was a real joy. They could have just gone with the main melody but they decided to try something really cool instead, incorporating some of JW's other orchestrational details.

And the finale! I wonder how it would sound with full orchestra...

Also the opening of their E.T. arrangement sounded awesome! Almost like the style of generic techno electronic music, if you know what I mean, but of course better.

And the Potter theme coming in in the finale.

I'm going to watch that again now!

The arranger is Jamey Ray. Here's the official upload:

I recently had this action cue recorded, which I feel is inadvertently infused with some Williamsisms. Enjoy, and any feedback is highly welcome!

Some of you might have wondered what would the Planet Krypton and Superman sound like if played by 30 trombones?

Popped up on my FB timeline today from a musician friend who performed on the original score. No idea if anyone know what this is for or whether it's been posted already, but great to see Williams out and about!

EDIT - As posted below, it seems as though this is almost certainly recordings for a new Spielberg/Williams Collab CD! Thread title updated!

Keeping my fingers crossed that this could be the case. Han and Leia's theme Williams-conducted concert version please!

The Psycho Pianist got a reaction from Will in Help me get Mr. Williams to score my short film
I mean, he arranged a lot back before he was really known as a film composer. I guess you don't forget those days, even at his age!

I love how when Conrad says "I remember when John Neufeld and I were working on this" the subtitler obviously had no clue what he said so subtitled it "John [Williams]"

The Psycho Pianist reacted to Score in Your Top Ten Star Wars themes...
It's a completely original piece composed by Williams for TESB concert suite (other pieces are the concert arrangement of Asteroid Field, Imperial March, Yoda's Theme and End Credits). As far as I know, he never recorded it (sadly) and this is probably Gerhardt's recording, I think it's the only available one. I'm not sure about this, but I know for sure that it's a Williams piece. The comment about it being Gerhardt's orchestration is wrong.

And yes, it's an excellent piece, worth of the great score it comes from

The Psycho Pianist reacted to KingPin in Abbreviation in score for 'Harry's Wondrous World'
The abbreviation stands for "with woodwinds." If you look at the very first measure of the piece, it identifies the line for the glockenspiel. The instrument hasn't changed - you can tell because the specific instrument is in normal font in the very first measure and the instruction is in italics - it's just that the score is simply indicating that the glockenspiel is supporting the woodwinds at that particular measure. If you look at measure 20, you'll see the exact same "w/Wws" indication for the piano line, so it's clearly not an abbreviation for a specific instrument. The "oaky" woodblock-like sound you think you are hearing is not percussion, but the accented plucking of pizzicato strings.

The Psycho Pianist reacted to Jay in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK - Live to Projection Concerts
It was great! The Pops really performed with gusto throughout.

The sound mix heavily favored the music at all times, which meant that occasionally you couldn't hear the dialogue in the middle of a loud action scene well,  though that was OK with me since I know the film so well.

Karen Allen came out before the film started and spoke a little but about filming it in the summer of '80. She pretty much just said they filmed in Hawaii, London, Tunisia and DC and didn't really have any specific stories ready.  She also spoke very fondly of Spielberg and Williams, and his score.

Keith Lockhart didn't speak at all

There was no extra music for the Indy/Belloq scene,  which was a bummer.  Also, I never noticed before / had forgotten that in addition to Miracle of the Ark being edited in the film, two other cues (Escape from Peru and... Marion's Theme I think) are edited; the live performance did a good cover of this by making the shortened cue still be very musical; I doubt anyone would suspect they were altered unless they were very familiar with the full cues.

For the scene in the well of souls where they break the wall with the statue to escape, they replicated the final film edit.  Meaning, they started with the revised insert, then performed the Indy theme tracked in from the airplane fight cue (but it sounded reorchestarted perhaps, so not exactly identical like in the film), then the rest of the original cue. It actually worked very well!

There was no choir present, and they didn't have the score's choir come from the film's audio mix (I doubt isolated sessions of that were even vaulted), which meant the three cues with choir in them were presented without it.  The Map Room: Dawn worked surprisingly well without it,  though the early cue that introduces the ask theme really needs it for full affect. The Miracle of the Ark I was so absorbed in everything I didn't really notice a major difference by not having it.

There was one cue I thought I noticed a cool and eery synth voice effect but now I don't remember where.

The intermission was handled kind of oddly I thought.  It was right at the end of Reunion and The Dig Begins. As soon as Indy's shovel went into the dirt, the film did a hard fade to black, and the orchestra, instead of ending the original cue in full, played a kind of weird rewrite that tried to transition the cue into a short statement of the Indy theme to wrap up the first half. I'd have to hear it again, but my initial impression was that it was kinda awkward.

After intermission, when Lockhart came back out,  he led the orchestra through a shortened (maybe 1 1/2 minute or so)  run through of Mutt's Theme with the screen off.  The audience didn't seem to really get what was going on, so mostly talked during it.  After that there was applause, and then the movie resumed with that iconic sunset silhouette digging shot.

Despite a note in the program asking people not to leave during the end credits because the orchestra would still be playing, some people started leaving before The Miracle of The Ark, and many left throughout the end credits. I am pretty sure when I saw Fellowship and TTT in Radio City Music Hall, no one left until the concert was well and over!

Well, there was plenty left to give a long standing o to the conductor and orchestra, for a very well run and entertaining evening outside.

The weather was quite nice; it was somewhat odd feeling a breeze while watching a movie (I didn't grow up going to the drive in) but the breeze helped with the humidity.

Oh, I almost forgot the end credits were shortened like the film edit.  I'm not positive if it was shortened in all the same places as the film cut, but it's actually sounded fine really. Though I don't really know why they wouldn't just perform the full six minute condition, and just show the orchestra on the big screen once the film credits were done.  Oh well.

Already looking forward to the next Live to Projection concert; these are really fun!

Anyone else notice that drastic accelerando near the start of Olympic Spirit - horns were dragging and then a sudden huge tempo increase. Odd for him to conduct it that way!

Rest of it is excellent though, particularly Harry Potter as mentioned above.
