Nick1Ø66 got a reaction from Cerebral Cortex in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (James Mangold, June 30 2023)
One thing I'd like to see them address in this film, given it will be the last one, is how Indy has finally resolved his own questions of faith.
He's presented as someone at least somewhat sceptical of religion (despite I suspect being raised Catholic) and all things supernatural in the first film, and to a certain extent the second, but by the end of the third film, he must be a believer of some sort given all he's seen. At the end of Raiders, he tells Marion to look away, suggesting he believes in the Arks power at least enough to close his eyes. At the end of Temple of Doom, he tells the villagers he understands the power of the Shankara stones, and in Last Crusade Donovan says "It's time to ask yourself what you believe." Clearly, Indy has seen enough to believe. The films themselves aren't neutral or nuanced on the issue, in context of the films, God is real, the power of God is real, the power of the Ark & Grail is real, as is the power of the Shankara stones. So what does Indy believe?
Who am I kidding, there’s no way they’re going there, but it's a fascinating aspect to the character (to me, at least) that has never really been resolved.

007's car from Die Another Day is really something to see.

Nick1Ø66 reacted to Manakin Skywalker in Rian Johnson developing a fourth Star Wars trilogy... Oh my..
The Last Jedi is probably the least political Star Wars film (or maybe second, after TROS).
People that think it's "too" political obviously haven't been paying attention all these years, except to the Epic™ pew pew spaceship battle and laser sword fights.

If anyone wants to examine my head, I'm open to the exercise. I love the Rise of Skywalker. Sometimes I wonder if I'm childish, less analytical than most here (ie. stupider), or if it is I who's the smart one and you are all missing out on something fun because ...reasons.

Ha! Credit to Lucas, he was genuinely trying to make something educational while also entertaining with the Young Indy Chronicles. The results were, er, decidedly mixed at best, but it was pretty clear a lot of love went into that show.

I don't think even JJ knows what occured in that film.

Nick1Ø66 got a reaction from crumbs in Avatar 2, 3 and 4 or how James Cameron stopped worrying and pulled The Hobbit on us
Where are you getting the idea that Avatar (or its sequel) has no story? Just because the story is simple doesn't mean there's "no story".

The real question involves bringing back dead actors in virtual performances (which, make no mistake, is coming), which will ultimately end up being a legal, not moral, question. That is a question that will be decided by judges, not ethicists. If it's ethics you're interested in, Dr. Tyree's philosophy class is right up the hall.

If only Bond has been driving a Red Barchetta.

Nick1Ø66 reacted to Tallguy in The MCU - Marvel Cinematic Universe
I believe at that time that the rights were still tied up. To say nothing of if the Broccoli's had the rights they wouldn't have let Tarantino do it and if they didn't they wouldn't have let Brosnan do it.
It always annoys me that Casino Royale was basically the movie Brosnan was trying to get them to make for ten years. (in type if not in the specific story.) And then they fired him to make it.

I'm sure that Crispin Glover would have something to say about this.

You just don’t bet against Cameron.
Prediction: The biggest ecological aquatic blockbuster since Star Trek IV!

Nick1Ø66 reacted to Pellaeon in Rian Johnson developing a fourth Star Wars trilogy... Oh my..
I assume Kennedy and Johnson are simply saving face by answering the occasional question about it when it comes up. “Oh yah, would love to do it, someday, schedule permitting.” Uh-huh. A Star Wars movie trilogy is a $1 billion prospect. I assume such things don’t happen lightly, in people’s spare time. And I don’t think that kind of money gets risked on something so contentious as another Johnson Star Wars foray is certain to be.

Nick1Ø66 got a reaction from GerateWohl in Rian Johnson developing a fourth Star Wars trilogy... Oh my..
The problem is, there's nothing special about Star Wars any more. The magic is gone. It's just another scripted show. Even when it's good it's just...OK.
House of the Dragon showed us that a hiatus, good writing and compelling characters can make fans forget about whatever they hated from a franchise's failures. Yes, Star Wars, Star Trek & Marvel just need to go away for a while. But there has to be more than that. Go away not simply because there's too much of all of it (though there is that), but because what they're producing feels watered down and uninspired. It's time to just go away and let other imaginations dream it all up again.
And when they do come back, it needs to be b/c there's a compelling reason to (i.e. a great story & characters) beyond just creating "content" to fill streaming hours.
Of course, none of this will happen, because, yeah, there's too many hours to fill, and a creative incentive alone isn't strong enough. As long as they continue to serve dog food and fans pretend it's filet mignon, we're stuck with what we get, and are expected to enjoy it. Actually, enjoying it is optional, just watch. Come to think of it, watching isn't strictly necessary, just subscribe!
