Dr. Rick reacted to Steve in Rick Beato makes a case for JW as “the most well-known musical artist in history”
Yes, their names, but not their melodies. That's what Rick is saying. A great percentage of the world population has heard a Williams melody or knows a melody he has written.

YouTube personality Rick Beato, who usually discusses music in a pop and rock vein, has just released a video where he argues that John Williams is the most influential well-known musical artist in history:

Eternals has the weakest and most boring action scenes of all MCU ever.

Don't bother!  LOL  One of the worst MCU movies ever.  Thor: DW was great by comparison lol

Dr. Rick reacted to Marian Schedenig in Jerry Goldsmith: 20 years gone.
I remember the day he died. I cried that day. I took the opportunity to listen through my complete Goldsmith collection over the following weeks, taking the albums off the shelf one by one as I listened to them, until there was a huge gap left when I was done. That was a lot easier in those days, when the Goldsmith part of my collection spanned I guess perhaps some 50 albums.

This is what it looks like now:

And there are still a few scores missing. I have only CDR copies of Supergirl, Six Degress of Separation, and Mulan - I'm still waiting for re-releases/expansions of those. The recent re-release of Macarthur closed one of the last major gaps of scores I didn't have at all on album, original or not, although I think there's one of two more obscure ones that are still missing as well.

Fortunately, two decades later, we're still getting new stuff - and even once everything is released, I can probably spend decades discovering those scores that I've so far only played a couple of times when I received them.

As far as I'm concerned, Goldsmith's death ended (or at least more or less coincided with) the (so far at least) last great era of film music. He was already one of the last remnants of the league of great composers working for film who consistently wrote film music that could stand of its own as first rate self-sufficient music that could compete with the music of the greatest non-film composers of the 20th century (partly because they had the necessary training, partly because films then still by and large allowed them to write that kind of music, although that was already beginning to get rarer). Bernstein died just a few weeks later, and Goldenthal pretty much left the film scoring world around the same time, leaving Williams as pretty much the only remaining film composer of that league still working. How lucky we are that he at least - himself only 3 years Goldsmith's junior - is still active 20 years later.

From The Last Crusade, I’ve always liked the final grand statement of the Holy Grail theme as the temple is crumbling all around and the Knight raises his hand in a final salute.

2:17-3:24 immediately stood out to me upon a recent re-listen to Amistad:

It would also be foolish of me not to mention 1:58 in this track:

Oh, and those choral pieces from Empire of the Sun… and Immolation from Schindler’s List… the list is endless. Great thread idea, keen to see what others bring up.

Dr. Rick reacted to Jay in The Legacy of John Williams (Website & Podcast)
I was able to listen to the podcast episode this morning and it's a really good one!

I quite enjoyed all the talk of the Sugarland film, well as the score, and putting both in context of what Spielberg and Williams were doing before and after.

After the Sugarland talk, Mike gives a small update on Williams' health, which isn't really much more than what was said publicly already, but it still so nice to hear from a close collaborator talking as opposed to reading a press release.

And then he says another Williams title, that's already completely finished, should be coming out soon, and then another one should be out by the end of the year. Love to hear it!

Dr. Rick reacted to Yavar Moradi in Harry Potter TV Series in the works
Rowling isn't doing any favors for the coming series by announcing her involvement, but Francesca Gardiner (besides working on Succession she executive produced Killing Eve and His Dark Materials) and Mark Mylod (besides Succession, he directed The Menu and six of the best episodes from the latter half of Game of Thrones, all rated 8.3-9.1 on IMDb) both have an impressive track record, so this news makes me pretty optimistic.
