WilliamHorne97 got a reaction from apples in The Sabrina theme. A hidden gem?
Hi guys I'm new to JWFAN.com As you can see by the title of this thread I'm going to be talking about the Sabrina theme. In my opinion its a hidden gem , and could be one of John Williams best pieces of work. The emotions that are conveyed by the piano and the orchestra are just breath taking. The track has a strong sense of sadness and beauty, and if I have heard correctly Williams dedicated this song to his late wife? It's such a shame that some of his best work ( musically) is almost hidden. It does make me cringe when I see these ' Top John Williams music' videos and its full of ST main theme, Imperial March and raiders march. Yes these themes are amazing but its the incidental music that I feel shows of Williams talent Feel free to voice your opinions on the Sabrina theme and everything else I have said. thank you

Is that the one on Alcatraz? I enjoyed it. Dirty Harry 4 was dumb. I never saw 5 because my DVD pack only has the four.

I think Rey's Theme creates a great narrative over the whole score, but I can agree that there's really no one huge dramatic setpiece track that really stands on its own. The only film sequences that feel truly musically driven that I can recall are The Scavenger, The Starkiller, and the The Trip/Jedi Steps...as far as action material goes, Follow Me/The Falcon and Scherzo for X-Wings sort of come close, but they still feel more like accompaniment in context rather than the main event, plus they get totally buried in the mix. I'm not sure if there was an opportunity for something that could really allow the music to puff itself up over a long stretch of time and Williams dropped the ball. The way the film constantly moves without too much time for lengthy visual storytelling, Star Wars style, along with how the film intercuts quite a bit between sequences, it seems like he had to take his shots where he could.

As far-fectched as this is, I still prefer people paying attention and loving Williams' music like this, than those criticising it for not sounding like the kitschy trailer.

Lets just have another heart pounding adventure movie like the first three. No need for Indy's family, just him kicking ass and discovering treasure

I got the new Edward Scissorhands from Intrada and the Halloween 2 and Halloween 3 expanded albums from Howarth.  Otherwise, pop music, some Blu-rays (many of them upgrades of my favorite movies from DVD), and stuff for the soon-baby.

I honestly didn't want anything, told my brother not to get me anything but the turkey did anyways.  I got the Star Wars The Visual Dictionary that just recently came out and three gift cards.  All ready used one and half but gonna let my lady use the rest for whatever she wants.

For Dawn I suggested to my brother a Star Wars coloring book for inspirtation of her drawings.  The turkey though put it "To Dawn, From Trent".

For music wise ended up getting the Home Alone re-issue and Braveheart.

I do love this time of year, but like croc all the social encounters can be exhausting.

Got a bunch of nice things this year. Nothing much film music-wise though, except two vinyl records. The choices were kind of random, but I appreciate the thought. Plus Sicario has a much cooler vinyl cover!

I've still got one more day of festivities. Being somewhat of a loner, it's hard for me to maintain high energy required for social encounters like those. I can only muster enough enthusiasm for so many conversations, especially when my visit home lasts just for four days. But it's good to catch up with my family all the same.

I got a new electric shaver (the other one broke down just this week), Boardwalk Empire complete series box set (DVD, sadly, but can finally catch up with this series), Umberto Eco's The Book of Legendary Lands (which will be an interesting read, I'm sure), and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. There are some other gifts still waiting for me back in the UK, I'm told. One of them is Alan Moore's biography Magic Words. I'm happy with all this stuff, extremely thoughtful.

I got a sweet new desk lamp and wall portraits of Bach and Debussy.  And a surprise trip for us all to spend the next week or so with parents and my in-laws in Colorado.  Thought I'd have to wait longer for that!  I've missed actual winter more than I thought I would.

That scene still to this day impresses me. The shark looks huge! And in some scenes looks pretty real. The shark scenes in jaws 2 are way better in my opinion then the first. Apart from the scene in the first movie where the guy gets pulled under his boat and you see the shark underneath him, that scene looked so real and terrifying

The sequel is completely unnecessary and is more or less a rehashing of a very basic premise that was done artfully with Jaws.  That being said, the movie is well made and watchable for at least a single viewing.  The score is great, and in many ways the better OST listening experience.

Personally, I liked Jaws better when I hadn't watched the sequels. Jaws 2 isn't too bad, certainly the best of the bunch and benefits from the Williams score but the film is lacking. The best scene is Brody's rant at the meeting, about not going through the hell of another shark again. I liked the idea of the sequel being about the Indianapolis.

As for the movie itself, I think it is an extremely well-made bad movie, if that makes sense. Meaning that, I think the plot is on the ridiculous side, but the movie's craftmanship is excellent. Jeanot Schwarc filmed the shark scenes pretty spectacularly, and I enjoyed his choice to show the shark alot more. He indicated that it would be foolhardy to re-hash the first film's strategy (forced by technical issues) of NOT showing the shark as much, since it was used to such grand effect the first time around. The music-- I think it is a better listening experience outside of the film than the first score. I love and am continually impressed by the first score, but I feel it is most effective while it accompanies the footage. The score for the second film has variety, diversity, and some gloriously triumphant/uplifting moments that make for more pleasant listening experiences.

I know that the movie isn't that original. But the characters still have there own story's , a stormtrooper finally got humanized! We also finally got a good star wars movie. Hopefully the next movie lives up to this one.
