Wow. The opposite of what you said. III doesn't have the dizzying highs that BTTF has (clock tower!) but I think it's a better overall score. And there is something fantastically heartbreaking and melancholy about going from the manic craziness of Doc passing out before the title to the love theme and Marty driving Doc home in the rain.

And the three train chase tracks are almost as good as the clock tower sequence.

I might have to listen to this today.

The direct copy/paste only happens in Superstructure Chase, which I find appropriate as a way to finish the trilogy going full circle.
Sail Barge Assault (the new version) had to be composed in between sessions because the original piece was rejected, so Williams ended up using every material he could to create the 5-minute action cue in just a couple of days. (However, it is NOT a copy of Here They Come)

I love the SE release's mix, top tier film score cue of all time. I feel the concert piece restructuring only hurts it.

Wow. Is that a thing? I hate being predictable but it's nice to be in a group.

I bet that's true. I always have a sneaking suspicion there's a chunk of Beatles that I haven't really explored. Like when I discovered "I've Just Seen a Face" and it's now in my top favorite Beatles songs. I mean, Revolver has Eleanor Rigby on it. That's an achievement right there.

I grew up listening to Phil Collins (first three albums). And on his first album he covered Tomorrow Never Knows. I had no idea it was a Beatles song. Or what a legendary Beatles song it was. Looking back I'm astonished that he even attempted it or that he did as well as he did.

    Absolutely! He's SO pissed off!

Empire is the only "live to picture" concert I've seen. And hearing the orchestra having to butcher that part live was terrible.

I think Kurtz had a big role. But Lucas just wasn't on his game. Going by the Rinzler books every instinct he had in Empire was great and every one he had on Jedi was terrible.

I thought Martin was terrific but his "acting" seemed a little strained in a few episodes. But he made up for it by being Steve Martin.

I like it. Arguably I like it a lot. It just isn't in the same league as Star Wars and Empire.

I think it's pretty clear that Lucas had lost interest, he had started to believe his own legend, a lot of the happy accidents that made the pervious two brilliant didn't happen, AND his marriage fell apart. (Even Williams kind of takes a step down. You know, for him.)

In 1980 Lucas was promising multiple more films and it felt like really the beginning of a whole world. Then Jedi comes along with a far more limited scope and says "Eh. That's enough, we're done."

Perhaps, but both STAR WARS and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK are revered classics, and RETURN OF THE JEDI, produced by Kazanjian, is...the third one.

Taken on it's own it might be all right. As an idea. But 1) It erases the original version because of how George has handled this. 2) It is not well done. Mcdiarmid looks terrible. He doesn't match the Emperor in Jedi very much better than the original version did. The dialog is clumsily rewritten to somehow make it fit with the prequels. And it still doesn't make sense. 3) It's just added to the pile of "this was not only unnecessary but probably worse." It's not as bad as "Bring me to my Star Destroyer".
Because the only problem with that scene is the acting. (And writing /directing - Seriously, George Lucas got believable performances out of this pair. What was wrong with Marquand?)

Why the Expanded U crowd never wrote about the woman Leia mistakenly thought of as her "real mother" is beyond me.

There are some good choices, in the S.Es.

    Why the , @Tallguy?
Bringing in MacDairmid for THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK added continuity to the saga.

So Han's theme is a love theme. Why not? Leia's theme in the first film was a love theme, too.

The biggest argument I think that it is as much a heroic theme for Han is that Williams uses it to introduce the character in the film and the way that it's used in The Asteroid Field. It's actually used a fair amount for "Han getting everyone out of another scrape."

"Even Wiliams latest arrangement of the theme seems to have been written on the occasion of Fisher's passing." --> And that arrangement doesn't sound very much like Han anymore. It no longer has the swashbuckling feel that the original had.

In the film it's played as a love theme, what, twice? When Han and Leia argue on Hoth and the actual scene "Han Solo and the Princess". I'll stretch it and say maybe the finale on the medical ship. The rest of the time it's all heroics. Go to 4:15 in The Heroics of Luke and Han. It's all Han leaping into action and saving the day. To say Leia's role here is passive is an understatement.

It's much more "their" theme in Jedi where it is used sparingly and always to underscore their relationship.
