paleo reacted to Pieter Boelen in Least Favorite Indiana Jones film? (and why)
The original trilogy remains as amazing as ever.
And I thought Dial was an enjoyable enough entry in the series and I'm glad we got it.
Skull is the dodgy one; but even that one could've been worse.
Indiana Jones is my favourite franchise by far.
And I'm only too happy to see it continue living.

paleo got a reaction from Cameron1138 in Hans Zimmer's DUNE PART TWO (2024)
Perhaps Hans Zimmer shouldn't have released that second album featuring most of the "new" music for part two even before the first movie was released. Apart from the emperor's music I can recall few additional ideas in part two's score.

paleo reacted to Thor in What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)
Yes, that's a fine score indeed. One of those I regret selling/trading off. Not on the level of the Moroder/Doldinger original, of course (very few things are, as it's one of my alltime favourite scores....for a film to which I have an enormous nostalgic connection), but Folk makes the musical universe his own, while alluding to the original here and there. The songs are okay.

I finally, finally tracked down a copy of "Neverending Story II" by Robert Folk on CD, and it wasn't even that expensive. A pretty mediocre film, for sure, but the score: A thing of beauty! And one of my last holy grails. The album is short (and "graced" by a few pretty wretched pop songs), but all the highlights seem included. The opening cue is nearly perfect imo; I am listening to it over and over again. Two great themes, a wonderful opening (actually based on the main pop song), hauntingly beautiful distant choir and a pan flute... what more could you want? So, after all that praise - any other fans of that score here? :-)

It's up on Amazon.de now, and I bought it. Thanks. Looking forward to listening to it properly once I have the time :-)

$150, so $27.15 cheaper than that active Amazon listing I linked you to.

paleo reacted to Thor in Alien: Romulus (2024 film directed by Fede Álvarez) (previously: So Disney has ordered a direct-to-Hulu Alien movie)
Sure. As I said, this playlist turns it into an "album" I can return to more often:

I don't quite understand all the negative comments regardind the score. It's Wallfisch in best dark gothic fantasy mode, and it is my favorite soundtrack of the year so far. Just listening to it again

paleo got a reaction from Tydirium in Michael Abels' THE ACOLYTE (2024)
Yeah, strange. I'm checking everyday, as I don't much like streaming services.

Maybe you and I are some of the only people interested in buying the album, lol. I’m a little surprised more people aren’t wondering what’s up with this.

Is there any news on when the album will finally become available for purchase? In other words, do I have to beg them to take my money? ;-)

paleo got a reaction from Stark in THE ACOLYTE - 2024 Star Wars TV
Anyway, great soundtrack album. I even like it better than the "Jedi - Fallen Order" scores. I hope they ask Abels to score further shows in the future.

paleo got a reaction from Tom Guernsey in Hans Zimmer's DUNE PART TWO (2024)
I totally agree. "The Creator" also comes to mind. I was hoping there would be something like "Prayer" of that score in Dune, but alas, religioso mode was probably not what Villeneuve was after here. Thus, "The Emperor" is the only cue vaguely going in that direction, I guess, albeit being much more aggressive

paleo got a reaction from 1977 in James Horner's BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS (1980) - 2023 2-CD Intrada
Had completely forgotten about this release, and just placed my annual Christmas order of CDs... But: I saw that it's also available as a download. While I prefer CDs I am tempted to buy the download version in order to avoid the additional 15 to 20 € shipping costs.

I think you overestimate the amount of action in this movie. ;-)

They are quite different, and actually get weirder and weirder. One has to get used to that, and adjust expectations.

He even provided the voice for Indy in some of the Indiana Jones PC games. Because of him, I first watched the German version of the new movie, which I rarely do.

I just watched the movie the second time, this time under better sound conditions, so now I could really enjoy (and discern, actually) the music much better. I noticed so many little nuggets left off the OST album... almost infutiating how the OST frequently skips very interisting passages... actually some of the highlights, IMO. 😆
There is great unreleased music on the train in the beginning (basically everything from the moment Indy gets his hat and whip back). The full version of Voller Returns is great, as is a missing passage when Indy reads the Grafikos disc (descending woodwinds, mirroring the approach to Archimedes' skeleton in his tomb). Then there is the remainder of Archimedes Tomb, really the culmination of the mystery aspects of the score, with a great crescendo. Not to mention all the great stuff in ancient Syracuse. Just love it.

When watching DoD last weekend, I was the only one left in the theater for at least the last 5 minutes.
