Oh wow, this was... disappointing, to say the least. It's really just a few extremely slowed down motifs... or basically nothing. "The attack" is particularly ludicrous. No action at all, just some background noise, sounding the same for endless minutes. I skipped whole minutes, and it still sounded the same. Fortunately I streamed this first. I am not buying this.

It's referred to as the sea wall, I believe. Yeah, liked that scene..  the movie, too, though it's not something I need to watch often. Dune, however, I already watched twice, and am looking forward to the 4k UHD

Funny, it's my favorite action cue... and the only clear statement of Duncan Idaho's material on the album, if I remember correctly

Looks like the OST is credited across the board as Frizzell, so the proper credits would be the same as the counterparts in the main program.

I've listened to that track so many times since receiving the set. I even ripped just that track and listened to it before I ripped the rest of the set, as I was so nervous that something about it would be different from the film.

The original album is fine if you have a Thor-approach - I do think the microedits work in terms of compressing it down for time. It just falls apart the moment you begin to connect it to the film and realise that, as you said, almost every highlight is missing.

Finally got my CD. Music Box Records was on vacation, apparently :-/
Anyway, what a wonderful album. I don't think any other soundtrack suffered more from Varese's 30 minute policy of the 90s. Almost all the highlights were missing, and even those that made it on the original soundtrack album were horribly truncated. So many great cues on the new album; I especially love the first half hour. "Helicopter Ride" was one of my grails, and it doesn't disappoint. But even some of the action stuff later on is great; "The Earthquake" is my favorite in that regard so far.

Gurney was tasked to negotiate with the smugglers on Dune in the novel if I recall correctly. In any case, he escaped the attack on Arrakeen and joined a smuggler group which later encounters Paul's Fremen... Gurney then joins Paul's forces

Yeah it's weird. I really hope CDs will be available in the future not only as overpriced "CD on demand" or how this is called nowadays...
This is the only page I found where the Dune OST can be purchased as CD

I'm totally fine with filmmakers attacking the MCU, but if I were Villenueve I'd wait until my movie actually makes good money before I criticize movies that regularly make a ton of money; not to mention before I risk alienating their large fanbase.

Since it was asked, the film ends actually quite early in the novel's storyline; shortly after the fight with Jamis, on the way to Sietch Tabr

I actually like that cue... it's a nice addition to "Ah, Rats" and has some interesting instrumentation you rarely hear on Williams' albums (not in this case, either) and some nice highlights (the ark theme, the moment when Elsa looks at Indy in that assesing way). I think the same about the cue when Jones senior is shot... love the suspenseful mood, and the moment when Indy dodges the circular blade. Both ofthese cues I really missed on the expanded release...

I absolutely had not realized how much excellent stuff was not on the original soundtrack CDs of all movies, but especially the first one (in some cases really unbelievable omissions). Maybe I've seen the movies so often that it felt as if I had also heard the music on CD. Anyway, sooo much to enjoy, even a lot of unreleased music not featured in the films.

I enjoyed the score when watching the movie (certainly more than any other soundtrack this year); still waiting for my CD, unfortunately. I do agree that the music is even less like a traditional Star Was score than the last two episodes' soundtracks. It reminded me more of some of Williams' more recent scores, but this is hardly surprising. I appreciate the quotes of the old themes (I thought it was done exactly right) and like most of the new material, even though I could really only remember Kylo's theme after leaving the theater (which is quite memorable, I think). Overall, by far the most enjoyable soundtrack experience of the year for me (I have actually started to mostly listen to classical music - expecially Bach - these days because I simply can't get into the new style of film scoring). Can't wait to get my CD... Oh, and it was great to hear a new version of the opening music after Williams had recycled the Episode I version several times.

That new creature thing would be very lame... There's a whole world of exciting dinosaurs out there (think of the big ones from Patagonia, for starters), and this is supposed to be what they came up with? If I want to watch a mutated super monster, I can always go see Godzilla. Hope this is not true. Meh.
