A few days ago, I was pondering abut the lack of John Williams releases of late... then this and expanded Always drop back to back, nice!

One of my favorite creepy Williams scores. Wished it was expanded (if I recall, the film had some different material? Been years since I watched it, tho...), but I imagine that the new source materials being higher quality than the LP transfers anyway, so I'll gladly take it. That and I always support any and of the limited/remastered/expanded JW releases to support the work in order that they keep coming.

PS - Wow, I was gonna' buy it on Quartet's website, but yikes the shipping was sky high for me, so Intrada gets my business. Much more reasonable.

I don't know who to credit but someone had clearly turned that poster in to cover art which graces my iTunes library... If you posted this here (or maybe on FSM custom art thread) do shout. It's splendid!

Think I'll probably pick up this new version, even if it's not a JW score I listen to often, it's still an interesting other side to his compositional personality that almost never got an airing elsewhere.

    I stand corrected... sort of!
Most of the music it's clean, though there are very, very light voices in a few cues. The kind of stuff you won't notice unless with headphones (something I probably never used while listening to this score).
The DVD case, as I rechecked it, also has the isolated score and FX track info. But there are no real FX there, just that very light bleed of dialogue one can't even discern. Most of the times, this can only be heard as the music fades in or out.
Most likely it's due to that the iso track is labeled as iso+fx. But if you compare with a iso track like the one from Conrack or The Killers, you could almost call it an iso score track.

So, I'll just retract my correction from earlier

I'm not a zealot who thinks that scores should only be heard C&C, I can dig an out of sequence OST when it works well.  But IMO the OST for The River is not well sequenced.  Putting the emotional climax of the film ("Ancestral Home") as track 5, followed by the main title ("Rain Clouds Gather") as track 6, I personally don't think it works as one of those fabled "listening experiences."  What I'm looking forward to more than anything with this release is hearing the new sequence of cues.  "Rain Clouds Gather" works so well as a moody, ambiguous intro to the score.

That Star Wars panel is cringeworthy. Kathleen saying no one cares about Star Wars more than J.J. the crowd cheering for images of Rey but not Luke. How pathetic the fanbase is.

My favourite new track from Ep9 will be -

    17. The Destruction of the Death Star 2's piece that broke off

And of course the last piece Williams will likely ever write for Star Wars -

    18. Final finale and finale

But its not just the character who is making this argument, now is it? its the film itself that's making the argument. That's my biggest issue with the Canto Bight sequence: not that it slows down the pace, not that it stupid, not that the CG is bad (all true), but that thematically it stands outside of the film's plot.

In fact, it doesn't have any one theme: its about animal cruelty, social justice, morality of arms deals. And because it attempts to rope in so many themes, it ends up being all but superficial in its communicating of all of them - all in the expense of what could have been used the deepen the film's overarching themes.

As with the rest of the film, there is an evident lack of restraint here. More action, more characters, more twists, more runtime, more camera movement, more, more, more - its all just too much.

I like how TFA and TLJ open with the music and opening crawl. All feels very Star Warsy.

You loved TLJ because it wasn't a remake? Did you love TFA? It was a remake of ANH! I don't want remakes. TLJ's story was incredibly unimaginative and lazy. Subverting expectation by killing Snoke and Luke sacrifices himself with a Force projection. Lame! Episode 9 is not a "must see" anymore.

Please tell us the "rational explanations" why a Star Wars film released during Memorial Day weekend will not make a profit in theaters.

I understand many aspects of film-making and can recognize a film bad film. I was just letting you know that Hamill had issues with the writing for his character. I have reason to believe that he would be more familiar with Luke Skywalker than Rian Johnson, who - let's be honest - was just some guy that agreed to do Kathleen Kenndy's bidding.

It's not personal - it's business. And clearly Mrs. Kennedy thinks she doesn't need the fans. Our loudest voice now is not paying to see this new movie. I don't believe that Disney is "shilling bot accounts to brigade reviews" or "putting the squeeze on Mark Hamill like he has been taken hostage". Hamill abruptly changed his tune. If you think he did so without being asked to, you are "totally divorced from reality".

I represent those who desire quality over quantity. While the TFA, RO, and Solo made have been acceptable "fun", they were all lacking in major ways. TLJ was a disgrace to Star Wars. I can't "enjoy" something that sucks.

They did it in the films and on Twitter. They are hoping you don't notice... and just buy everything no matter what. Some of use know better.

Hopefully... but not in the way you think.

Disney will care when Lucasfilm starts loosing money on Star Wars. Let people theorize. And you can continue given Disney your money on this crap.

I'm hoping that was sarcasm. But I know some people genuinely think that way. Not everyone will "get with" the new tone/agendas of SW, and a consumers (mainly the traditional fans) are being driven away as we speak. I can tell you money speaks, as well.

They are not destroying my childhood. The "insane vocal minority" is the opposite of insane... and may not be the minority for much longer. "Normal" people are learning more and more each day. We will see what the "minority" does to Episode 9 at the box office if no changes are made to correct this sinking ship.

Senselessly extreme reactions, like complaining and boycotting? Hopefully, the extreme counter-reaction will be the firing of Kathleen Kennedy and her goons.

You can be tired of it, but it won't make the upset fans' grievances any less warranted. People are tired of being disappointed. This is capitalism, and actions will have consequences.

... controlled and paid by Kathleen Kennedy. she is the source of the problem. Isn't it ironic that her kind preaches diversity... but hires only white men to write and direct her movies? And why can't heterosexual white men be feminists and social justice-y?

Exactly. We are seeing what happens when a company takes for granted and insults potential customers. Solo made less than half what Rogue One pulled in in its opening weekend. Word of Lucasfilms' shenanigans is spreading like wild fire.

There's something fundamentally wrong with a set of movies if they can't stand on their own and need supplementary support from EU novels to make sense.

I challenge you to defend these arguments against the sequel trilogy... and link them to similar critiques of the OT:

    - The protagonist just knows how to do everything without struggling or failing... or any explanation why she is so powerful. (In TFA alone, Rey expertly flies and repairs the Millennium Falcon, resists Force mind probing, reads that person's mind, uses a mind trick on a strormtrooper, and beats Kylo Ren in lightsaber combat.)

    - The films lack a villain that is respected and feared. (Oh, no! Look! It's Kylo Ren. Talk about a man-baby! At the height of his power, Snoke was just 'killed' by Kylo. And Commander Hux was played as comedic relief in practically every scene.)

    - Little to no development of most characters in the second film.
