From the moment the CDs arrived, were played, ripped onto our harddrives, they were doomed. They were undone, destroyed, after all of man's optical drives and devices had failed, by the tiniest scratches that plant workers in their wisdom put upon disc surfaces.

These arrived today

Just finished listening to the entire score for the first time. The clarity of the sound is phenomenal and a great improvement from the OST. It is great to hear all of the previously unreleased music for the first time outside of the film itself. Perfect listening for Halloween. Heck, I think I'll re-watch the film on 4K Blu-Ray again just for the heck of it. Chills!

It came! I will be listening to the score, reading the liner notes with a nice cup of ginger tea later this evening.

The extra clarity was instantly noticeable to me right away.  I love it!

Definitely, it is a very noticable departure from the sound of the OST.

Oh yes, I was talking about the OST.

I can’t say I had any complaints about the sound of the original OST. I don’t think any dramatic improvement in quality was really possible in this case, but everything sounds excellent so far.

A few notes:
 
@crumbs was right! Every version of ‘Reunion in Boston’ is here. In the main program, ‘Defeat and Reunion’ uses the C-major version (following the original introduction, as intended) and ‘Boston Street Finale’ is the Horn and Piano version. The OST has complete original 6M3 cue (‘The Separation of the Family’) and the film version that combines several different versions (‘The Reunion’). In the alternates section, ‘Boston Street Finale (Alternate No. 1)’ is 6M3 Alt, and ‘Boston Street Finale (Alternate No. 2)’ is 6M3 New. So all six versions are accounted for, but mercifully split up to avoid too much monotony.
 
The alternate ‘Prologue and Opening Montage’ has all the same synth material (1M2 Film Prologue), but includes some parts that were written but later removed for the version of the orchestral overlay (1M2 Prologue Orch.) used for the final version. For instance, the strings enter right from the beginning of the cue.
 
‘Before the Escape’ is indeed, as suspected, 2M4 CD Intro presented on its on.
 
The alternate ‘Epilogue’ appears to be just an alternate take, as far as I can tell. No significant differences in composition are jumping out at me so far.

The booklet looks nice, but I’d wish they’d make space for a full cue-by-cue chronological discussion, and there’s no notes about the alternates at all. It’s very well-written, but more high-level overview of the music.
 
Mike Matessino does provide some tech notes. He received Protools files that still had the performance edits to conform to the picture, so he had to meticulously open these back up to be able to present the cues as they were originally recorded.
 

After watching Amistad on Blu-Ray with remastered picture and sound, I wanted to start this thread. The Maestro's score, like the film itself, is a masterpiece. However, there is over 40 minutes of the score that has not yet been released. The first attempt of Mr. Baldwin communicating with the Africans, Cinque's tale of slaying the lion, his entire flashback sequence, Yambe explaining the Bible to Cinque, the entirety of Adams' Summation are just a few of many yet to be released highlights from the score. The entire score is a brilliant combination of African texture and instrumentation with orchestra and choir. The score is powerful and moving, like all the Maestro's work. However, there is something I cannot truly describe about this score of his that makes me want it to be given the remastered and expanded treatment. I have a very personal connection to this score. I was too young to see the film when it first came out, but I was introduced to the music via the soundtrack album. This score introduced me to the spiritual aspect of music. When I was old enough, I saw the film, and both the film and score moved me deeply. All of the Maestro's work is sheer brilliance and blessed with genius, but if I had a choice, difficult as it is given his other scores that have not yet received remastered, expanded and definitive releases, to have one score be given a remastered and definitive release, it would be Amistad.
 
This thread is not only an appreciation of this score, but a discussion on the likelihood of Amistad getting the remastered, expanded and definitive treatment.

I’ve seen you obsessively correct other people all the time on things at least this minor.  No offense meant but really it looks like you just can’t take a dose of your own medicine and admit either your wording was wrong or you accidentally omitted some stuff Mike produced from your (impressive) list.
