Is it just me, or did none of these recent concert works really capture the attention of the fans or the reviewing community? I wouldn't say these works are "boring," but I find they go in every direction. There's clearly a lack of a 'concept' in the marketing of these recent albums (one of them is even subtitled as 'selected works,' indicating in advance that the content will be varied). Don't you agree?

Bespin Copilot 9,582
I just got the 'Maps to the Stars' album after watching the movie. It's a score that received mixed reviews, despite winning an award at Cannes, among others. Some people love atmospheric electronic scores when they're composed by up-and-coming talents, so I don't see why they should be dismissed when they come from a veteran like Howard Shore, who actually started his career with very electronic scores. Anyway, I just discovered that some time before the album's release, a 'Single' was released. It seems to be a 4-minute 36-second montage. Does anyone know which tracks make up this montage? thestat 496
Managed to get front row seats for the London Soundtrack Festival Celebration with Shore and Cronenberg, as well as for the Q&A. If any of you are about let me know. https://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whats-on/london-soundtrack-festival-gala-concert/ Can't wait to see what this is all about - Shore is not conducting but it is the London Philharmonic so should be full on quality! thestat 496
I had my best beautiful Shore moment. We were outside the Royal Festival Hall after the Q&A and waited by the taxi rank, instead of the heaving fan boy exit hole. Cronenberg and Shore come along from some random concealed entrance. Cronenberg's not doing signatures, Shore is too weak. I see Shore, take a photo, he looks at me geeking out, smiles (for no reason), approaches me, double taps me in the shoulder, as I splutter out some nonsense, and moves on. That coat will never be washed. Best moment ever, so Shore. On 23/03/2025 at 9:27 PM, Alex Shore said: How is Shore health? He is using a cane. crocodile 9,168
I quite like the album. Not really a fan of the recording necessarily as it doesn't measure up. But the selection itself is really good. I am still quite happy this came out. Do you guys think they will do a vol 2? What else did they perform during these concerts? On a side note, I really warmed up to LOTR symphony recently. The first two movements, as presented on this album, are particularly good. In fact I do tend listen to this more than I do to the old album. It does avoid Ringwraith overdose and features some slight nice passages that only appeared on CR. It's a very successful summary of the story boiled down to lean 47-49 minutes (depending on the recording). I like the other 4 movements too but they're definitely more scattered. Would love to hear this live someday. Sadly, most concerts they book are these unauthorised knock-offs. Karol Once

NewBlueEyes 34
You know, Howard never even scored for an animated feature film. (excluding the cartoon segment for Mrs. Doubtfire).
