And it appears there's nothing Fox can prevent for the first film, either!   Come on Disney, do the right thing and commission new 2CD sets!   Well this is indeed GREAT news that Disney has acquired the STAR WARS rights off the clutches of the Sony Label !  And I was just talking and speculating about the 40th Anniversary in my other Williams/Matessino Thread.  With Matessino hinting about us saving for 2017 could mean that we just might get our wish.  On a personal note, I occasionally chat with Mike Matessino and although he does not always reply but last month I after I congratulated him over the JURASSIC PARK scores and the radio interview; he said the following to me when I asked about working on the Original Trilogy:  MM: ...Öfcouse I would love to do STAR WARS completely over again...  Now, with the rights reverting to Disney, Matessino asking us to save for 2017 and already starting work on Jan 1st, 2017 (supposedly the time frame for the STAR WARS licences  to revert officially on paper to Disney. I can only hope that it can be STAR WARS as the 40th Anniversary is this year!  This is HOPE !           Will, Cerebral Cortex and Pieter Boelen

They've clearly been paying very close attention to the rights of these soundtracks.  Yea, you're right: While it's frustrating we are getting an umpteenth reissue of the OST instead of new definitive editions, it's actually EXTREMELY encouraging that Disney is clearly SO aware of soundtrack rights that they had new covers commissioned in advance of a total cross platform release on January 1 of the year the rights revert to them.  This could indicate a plan for future editions DOES exist! Good call.   1 hour ago, crumbs said: Encouragingly, they've chosen to use the recently scanned OST masters for the OT rather than the ancient RCA releases. Surely a positive sign they aren't going to endlessly repackage those ancient masters like Sony did.  Well, the 1997 programs could be reissued digitally too at some point in the future, who knows.  1 hour ago, crumbs said: So it seems the Vinyl releases were the "last hurrah" for Sony and the 40th Anniversary for Star Wars will fall under Disney's label!
