Naïve Old Fart 12,317 Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 That's a good one, but for me, he'll always be Sir. "Stop. That. Train!"
Naïve Old Fart 12,317 Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Thanks, @Omen II. I nearly put this in the Sports thread. The greatest save in all of football, bar none! R.I.P., Mr. Banks.
Naïve Old Fart 12,317 Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 He was great in WINGS OF DESIRE, and absolutely out-of-this-world magnificent in DOWNFALL. His is the definitive portrayal of Hitler. R.I.P., Herr Ganz.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,403 Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Star of the greatest internet meme of all time! RIP!
FBC Director 10,400 Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 The best Hitler was Robert Carlyle because he spoke English.
Wojo 2,458 Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 I wonder if the real Hitler spoke any English.
FBC Director 10,400 Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 He probably knew a swear word or two.

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,403 Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Its a pity, because the rest of the performance is far more restained

Sir Hilary Bray 235 Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Downfall made me a fan of his work -quite like his turn in Baader-Meinhof Complex. The American Friend is superb also. Naïve Old Fart 1

Jurassic Shark 15,675 Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Are you comparing Merkel to Hitler?

Well...sort of, but, actually...er, no. I'm not saying that Merkel is the new Hitler, what I'm implying is that I do not trust Germany when it comes to European politics. Merkel would have faded from the political stage, soon, and the scene will be set for a far more aggressive kind of politics. I distrust Germany's role in the emerging Europe, and I don't look forward to seeing where the EU goes next. The UK is best off, out of it. As far as Merkel is concerned; I have nothing against her, personally. She just happens to lead a country the role of which, within Europe, will be pivotal, in a few years.
Wojo 2,458 Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Merkel speaks English because it's useful for today's global community. I wonder if Hitler's attitudes about Aryan purity and German superiority would have given him reason to learn smatterings of his enemies' languages. He may have just delegated such activities to subordinates. We'll never know unless real recordings of his English survived.
FBC Director 10,400 Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 He obviously wasn't aware of the racial superiority of English speakers over non-English-speaking Nazis.

You having a laugh mate, or just Stockholm syndrome. Britain is doomed. Hopefully forever!

FBC Director 10,400 Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 I'd never heard of him until he died.
A24 4,956 Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Perhaps Australians are like Americans? Unaware of the world outside their own?
FBC Director 10,400 Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Never been much of a high fashion guy unless it's Levi's or something. Xander Harris 1
A24 4,956 Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Me neither but as an Earth resident you can't get around Lagerfeld.
A24 4,956 Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 I'm pretty sure Ridge knows who Karl Lagerfeld is.

Sir Hilary Bray 235 Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 Peter Tork from the Monkees, aged 77.
JoeinAR 1,955 Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 There are two beatles and two monkeys left.
Wojo 2,458 Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 And two of The Who as well. The Rolling Stones are immortal. Except for the few members who've died.
John 2,033 Posted February 23, 2019 Author Posted February 23, 2019 Stanley Donen, director of "Singin' in the Rain", has died at age 94.
Naïve Old Fart 12,317 Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 No mention of SATURN 3. Hmm. I wonder why?
Naïve Old Fart 12,317 Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Thank you, Alex: corrected. I don't know..."5" seems better... Anyway, it was a terrible film. Better to remember him as the director of one of the greatest musicals - one of the greatest films - of all.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,403 Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Look, Singin' In The Rain is a very nice musical, but one of the greatest films of all time? It's mostly just a Hollywood film telling lies about Hollywood films.
Xander Harris 8,708 Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 It is widely considered one of the greatest movies of all time. John 1
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,403 Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 He was good in Beverly Hills 90210

FBC Director 10,400 Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I remember seeing him in this 90s TV miniseries with Kim Cattrall where he turned into a slimy alien at the end.

FBC Director 10,400 Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Hang on, Kristy Swanson was in Mannequin 2: On the Move. She was of course in Buffy with Luke Perry.
Naïve Old Fart 12,317 Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 That nice man out of FRIENDS died. Such a shame. Shot in the back. Very sad.
