John Williams: The Berlin Concert - DG: 4862003 - 2 CDs | Presto Music

Hm, seems to be the "songs without words" edition. There is also no applause at the beginning of the Imperial March.

Also, Princess Leia's Theme was not recorded on October 16.

Those are probably the samples from the digital release!

Any other US residents find it strange that Amazon US still only has the CD edition up, and not the Blu Ray / CD combo?

Question for any Americans reading this, are you hoping it'll eventually show up on Amazon US, or have you decided to purchase from another vendor instead?  If so, which one and how much was it?

Back on US Amazon store, though a little expensive

THANK YOU FOR PURCHASING FROM THE CLASSICAL CENTERSTAGE STORE! WE ARE REACHING OUT REGARDING YOUR ORDER #CLAS6726.

UNFORTUNATELY, WE ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO FULFILL THE JOHN WILLIAMS: THE BERLIN CONCERT – 2CD + BLU-RAY DELUXE EDITION IN YOUR ORDER. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE.

A REFUND HAS BEEN ISSUED. PLEASE ALLOW 3-10 BUSINESS DAYS FOR THIS TRANSACTION TO PROCESS.

NOTE: IF YOUR ORDER CONTAINS ADDITIONAL ITEMS, YOU WILL RECEIVE A SHIPMENT CONFIRMATION EMAIL CONTAINING TRACKING INFORMATION ONCE THE REMAINDER OF YOUR ORDER SHIPS.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT,

I am pissed off; this was pre-ordered since December 8, 2021! Ideally, you would think that a pre-order would reserve a copy for you! UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Hopefully, the pre-order I just put on Amazon will actually go through, except instead of February 4, I have to wait until after February 11, WHERE HOPEFULLY THE ORDER WILL ACTUALLY BE SHIPPED! :banghead: :angryfire:

Try the Decca online stores. They have a better price too.

Tried that. I live in the US. It has to be local; international shipping is too much.

Yea, my order with them was completely canceled too.

So how do us Americans purchase the blu ray version now?

The only Amazon US entry for the blu ray version is a $46 import: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KN2QCP4

Did DG decide not to sell the Blu Ray edition in the US market, is that what's happening?

Great question.

The first link is "John Williams: The Berlin Concert", with the classic DG yellow title block, but there are no pictures of what it looks like inside.  It costs $14.25, a discount from the usual price of $15.75.  It says it is 2 CDs, and the catalog number is 4862003

The second link is "John Williams: The Berlin Concert - Deluxe Edition", with the same cover picture, but the title area is no longer the standard yellow title block, it's like a bronze-ish color.  It has a picture that shows you its a digipack that unfolds to show two CDs (each just say "The Berlin Concert" on them), as well as a booklet.  It says it is 2 CDs, and the catalog number is 4861710.  It costs $15.75 discounted from the usual price of $17.25.

So what makes the second link "Deluxe"????

For Across The Stars, the Deluxe edition had 5 more tracks than the standard edition, plus a bonus DVD.

For The Vienna Concert, the "Live Edition" was the 2CD version with every piece played, audience noise, and speeches, as opposed to the standard edition which had no audience noise and 5 pieces cut.

So what's going on here?  No idea.  It isn't clear.

At first I thought it was an error they would rectify as the release date approached because of all the different editions. Also, the samples for that one 2 CD set are still the digital samples, so that's incorrect too. Cancelling my pre-order just in case we still don't know everything about this release.

It's all extremely confusing, because if you go to DG's own website, their product page for the "standard edition" has the bronze title block, and not the yellow!

https://www.deutschegrammophon.com/en/catalogue/products/the-berlin-concert-john-williams-standard-edition-12559

And that link says that the "deluxe edition" is the version that comes with the Blu Rays!

But, Presto has a completely separate listing for the Blu Ray version!

https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9266545--john-williams-the-berlin-concert-blu-ray-edition

What a cluster.

Like I said, I already put in the pre-order through Amazon. I have to wait another week, but hopefully that order should go through. At least I was able to put in a pre-order from a local US vendor, hopefully.

Looks more to be an issue of Presto Classical, because they're giving the option to preorder the 2CD on the same page that says: "Available to purchase as a download from 4th February 2022". That's why it's the yellow label (also it's the only page that has samples). The second link should be the exact same 2CD Ltd Edition you get when you order, because nothing else has been announced. Again, the tracklist of the physical Presto Classical releases are wrong, because they are for the digital release without introductions.

Wow, I understand now, thanks for this.

Basically, this: https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9266162--john-williams-the-berlin-concert

Is NOT a physical CD edition, even though the page says "2 CDs" in one spot and "Add CDs to basket" in another spot.  The clues are that it says "Listen in My Library from 4th February 2022" and "Available to purchase as a download from 4th February 2022"

And, it's yellow title block matches the Amazon MP3 entry for the digital album, the one without speeches: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09L89W4B5/

And then, this: https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9266544--john-williams-the-berlin-concert-deluxe-edition

Is the physical CD edition, the 2-CD set.  It's called the "deluxe edition" even though it's actually the only CD only edition (excluding Japanese variants).

This same 2-CD set wrongly has the yellow title block on Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KN2N3F4/

And finally, this: https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9266545--john-williams-the-berlin-concert-blu-ray-edition

Is the version with the blu ray, which is not available on Amazon US at all, except as an import

Welcome ;) I see, Amazon US labeled things slightly different and that makes it confusing to distinguish between versions.

DG 4862003 (UPC 028948620036) is a 2 CD jewel case set. DG 4861710 (UPC 028948617104) is a 2 CD digipak set with "gold foil".

Amazon US seems to be the only place to order the deluxe edition locally for those of us in the US. It is an import regardless of where you order it from.

If you live in the US and order the Blu Ray version from Amazon, it is $46.99 + $0.00 shipping = $46.99

If you live in the US and order the Blu Ray version from Presto Music, it is $23.50 + $9.85 shipping = $33.35

I see no reason to purchase the Blu Ray version from Amazon as a US resident.

Are you sure about that? Can you provide a link where it says Jewel case? I checked a few sites with the UPC codes you mentioned but they all seem to have one of the UPC listed but not both at the same time.

This page for example lists the gold foil under both of the UPC codes

While that may be so, which of the two allows you to receive the item quicker? Also, what prevents the same thing that happened with Center Stage from happening with Presto Music?

Then again, Presto Music shipping options do guarantee delivery by Feb. 11, whereas Amazon is a few days after. Maybe I’ll cancel the Amazon pre-order and get from Presto instead later in the afternoon.

When the gold foil cover editions sell out DG will probably make yellow label editions (same as for the Vienna release). The only version that has the yellow label is the digital download and the japanese CD.

There are 8 releases (if I didn't miss anything) that are available right now:

VINYL

  • 2 LP (Gold foil cover) + gold vinyl (only initial applause, no moderations)
  • 2 LP (Gold foil cover) + black vinyl (only initial applause, no moderations)
  • 1 LP (Gold foil cover) + gold vinyl ("Harry's Wondrous World" + "Superman March" ONLY)

DELUXE CD + BLURAY

  • 2CD + 2 Bluray (Gold foil cover) (with moderations)
  • Japan 2 CD + 1 Bluray (Gold foil cover)

CD ONLY

  • 2CD (Gold foil cover)(with moderations)
  • Japan 2 CD (Yellow label) (with moderations)

DIGITAL (Yellow label) (no moderations)

grafik.png

Japan Release (2 CD) - says 2 CD in the description even though it's not mentioned in the title

grafik.png

Japan Release (2 CD+ 1 ! Bluray) - seems to miss one Bluray (probably High res audio bluray because of High res CDs?)

grafik.png

Digital (without moderations)

grafik.png

Here we go again ;-)

All I want to own is the 2CD set to be on my CD shelf with all my other CDs, and the Blu Ray to be on my Blu Ray shelf with my other Blu Rays.

I wish DG made it easy for me to have that.

So what makes the second link "Deluxe"????

The same two releases are also at the Decca Shop, although (to add to the confusion) on there 4862003 also has a gold title block.  The only discernable difference between the two is that 4862003 is in a jewel case and 4861710 is in a digipak.

Yep. So now that the Decca Site seems to be the only site explicitly saying 'Jewel case', it looks like the Presto classical link with the download option is indeed a Jewel Case. https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9266162--john-williams-the-berlin-concert

@bollemanneke If it's gold foil or yellow label is still not clear though. Crazy release strategy!

Yea, and it sucks equally to import a European blu ray into the USA, as it does a USA CD into Europe

The above edition is NOT SACD. I hope that comes out too but if they a high resolution multi channel blu ray audio then I’d probably not need it.

A hybrid multi channel SACD would be nice but the previous Vienna conert was all stereo (I still havent played that btw)

I think because DG is making available the 2 Blu-ray version - one Blu-ray video and one Blu-ray audio - the SACD is less needed. I think the Blu-ray audio is 24 bit, 48 or 96 kHz and also will be Dolby Atmos encoded. Thus, this is more useful as a format than SACD. (I still love my SACDs!) Just a guess. As this thread shows, the lack of specifics is confusing. The lack of being able to order all the versions in a coherent way is also confusing.

Right now, I have a handful of orders:

Presto - all physical CD and Blu-ray versions

Amazon US - Deluxe CD

Amazon DE - CD + Blu-ray

CDjapan - Japanese CD and Japanese Blu-ray (which I likely will never actually unwrap)

DG - LP editions when they ship in April

I am betting some amount of the above gets cancelled.

I also had initially preordered the JW Boston Pops box set from Presto, but their allotment from Decca/Universal was delayed. So I cancelled, and I was able to get it from Wal-mart in 3 days for free shipping (about the same $80 base price as Presto had but which was not free shipping). Not as cheap as Decca's $65, but Decca was charging $35 in shipping. I am hoping Presto gets in these Berlin discs on time (or has them already and ready to ship out Friday).

Ive ordered directly from UK Decca for the DE Editon 2CD+2Blu Ray which will not be expnesive to ship. But for Boston Pops set I went for their special 10% discounted price and had it shipped to UK directly where it has landed at a relatives place.  Shipping directly over to me would have been a super expensive and the double fee of custom deuties etc.

What do you think the difference between these two is?

https://www.nl.fnac.be/a16401774/John-Williams-JOHN-WILLIAMS-IN-BERLIN-Cd-album

https://www.nl.fnac.be/a16401773/John-Williams-JOHN-WILLIAMS-IN-BERLIN-Cd-album

Would the more expensive one be the 2CD & 2 blu-ray Deluxe version even though it just says 2CDs? This seems like the most logical, unless there are really two versions of the 2CD.
