What Is The Last Film You Watched?

Twilight - ok i was at a conference, i was tired and was flipping through channels at night and came across something with kristen stewart in it. it was about 10 minutes later i realized it was Twilight, and by that time I was absolutely transfixed by just how awful nearly everything in the film was. And the dialogue in this film makes Attack of the Clones sound like a masterpiece.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (Blu)

I finally revisit an early childhood favorite, and man is it good. I've seen the film countless times, but never to my own accord ever since the VHS days. Here the claymation shines in crisp 1080p, and Eflman's score never sounded so good. I almost want to watch the "new" commentary with Burton and Elfman, and I never watch film commentaries. Ken Page as Oogie Boogie is one of the best voice performances ever, despite how small his role is. Can't wait for the Burton/Elfman box.

"Early childhood favourite"? You only saw it last night. How old are you, man??

Um, shall I bold the first two sentences? It's a personal favorite, but I never had the DVD and have only watched parts of it on TV ever since VHS died out. Never straight from the beginning.

No, I like my vampires to be masculine.

In fact AOTC has someone who who ran rings around today's so called vampires when he played one.

The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest

Not sure why it got bad reviews. It may not have been as eventful as previous installments, but it was loads better than The Girl Who Played With Fire. I enjoyed it a lot.

Black Swan

One of the most awesome theatrical experiences I've had in a long time. May very well be my favorite of the year. Score is and isn't what I expected. Probably not a good album experience, but it works great in the film how much Mansell is able to weave Swan Lake in and out of the score.

TRON. I think I'd only seen this film once, a long time ago, and perhaps not even the whole thing. Obviously a milestone for computer graphics in the film industry, but boy...the story is not told very well at all. I'm hoping the sequel will be a little more straightforward and a little bit more personal. The original has a lot of cool ideas in it, but it's very difficult to connect with. It's a very cold film.

I love the world of the first Tron. The design (Syd Mead), the rules, the restrictions and oddities that come with it. At least Tron managed to create its own and unique atmosphere.

I am looking forward to Legacy also, having grown up with the first one. Unfortunately, I'm not really digging the costume design for the new film. Too black. Too much like motorcycle wear. It lacks the style and color of the original designs, goofy though they may be.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Better than the awful book, but you know a movie is in trouble when you're sitting with the uninitiated and they're all dozing off and snoring by the time Draco stamps Harry in the face. It's all talk, talk, talk and goes on forever and ever (to actually think this is an improvement on the book!). They could have tightened this one up a lot more.

Things to Come

Aside from great special effects for the 1930's, I really can't get over how painfully frightening it is that it's just a piece of Fabian Socialist wank.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra

I was constantly distracted by Sienna Miller's cute specs and Alan Silvestri's awesome score.

As oddly fascinating and quite fun (for the wrong reasons) that it is, it is just gimmicky crap at the end of the day.

I need more than just visuals and atmosphere.

Really? Okay, that one is back on my radar. I found the trailer to be quite off-putting, and I'm not the biggest Aronofsky fan to begin with...

Awesome. Been looking forward to the film and score since the trailer first came out.

Yes, we all know you're constantly seeking for profound meaning and life-changing experiences but that doesn't mean Tron didn't give us a unique world and one that is worth mentioning.

You must be confusing me with someone else. I love movies with machine guns and explosions.

That Tron gave us a unique world was never in question. Whether people in 2010 could believe that inside their computers exists the same fantastical wonderland of lines and pixels from 1982, where anthropomorphized software programs and memory algorithms engaged in fatalist games and conspiracies, was.

And then I see photos of Beau Garrett as Siren Jem, and I forget my name.

I don't know. You and I have been having conflicting opinions about movies lately. All I can say is that it had me by the opening scene.

Exorcist III

Meh. It wasn't bad. It felt like it was building up to something really good, but ends up being rather pedestrian in the last ten minutes, which was disappointing after hearing fans of the series giving it a lot of high praise. George C. Scott is great as usual (a Razzie nod? No way!), Brad Dourif is pretty electrifying, and that scare in the hospital hallway was very effective, but overall it's pretty underwhelming and mediocre.

Exorcist III is so weird. The first half is like a supernatural version of Grumpy Old Men, and then it turns into another Exorcist derivative. But it's certainly interesting.

I agree. I like Tron a lot, and I'm very much looking forward to Legacy.

I wonder why the original hasn't had a Blu-ray issue yet, especially with a seemingly perfect marketing window coming up.

I believe it will be coming out in December--last I heard, anyway. It would be really cool if they do a Director's Cut--Lisberger came to regret cutting out the Tron/Yori scenes from the middle of the film, and I agree that they would help flesh things out a bit and improve the pacing. As of the 20th anniversary DVD, they were missing some audio, but it seems like something they could get Boxleitner to dub without much distraction. May just be fanboy dreaming, but I'd go for it.

Saw the new Potter yesterday. It was good, especially the first hour or so. After that, it went a little too much into teasing the final movie and showing close ups of emotionally disturbed teenagers. The score is good, though there´s no theme or motif to remember after the entire movie.
