Jay 46,245 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 George Lucas already confirmed it, I dunno why anyone would doubt it
Jay 46,245 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Sadly they might not even select a composer until 2014....
Wycket 36 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I'm sure its Williams job until he can no longer do it. At worst, maybe a Superman IV type deal where he comes up with some new themes and Giacchino does the overall score.
crumbs 16,007 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't they have to licence out all the themes and pay Williams all royalties for his music if they went with another composer? Seems like a total waste of money if the man is happy to do the score himself. You'd effectively be paying two composers to do the one job otherwise?Isn't this how it worked with Harry Potter, hence Hedwig's Theme was the only Williams theme reused in the latter films? (Azkaban Quidditch theme references notwithstanding)
Luke Skywalker 2,386 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 it doesnt seem a problem in the clone wars where they quote some themes and re-use some passages of music...And that's a TV show...
Marian Schedenig 11,695 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Generally, the studio owns the rights to the music.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Yep, and if the studio owns something they can pretty much use what they own in anything. Kinda like Conan's old Walker Texas Ranger skit.
Datameister 2,586 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Sometimes the bigger challenge is the new composer wanting to do their own thing, even if they love what's been done before them. Not necessarily saying this would happen with Giacchino, but it's a possibility.
A24 5,156 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 George Lucas already confirmed it, I dunno why anyone would doubt itThat was before Disney took it out of his hands. The mouse might have other plans with the franchise.Plans?! Who said "plans"?!
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I love the ho-hum expression on the Rebel. DarthDementous 1
Tom 6,862 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 So, do those who oppose Williams scoring episode VII, saying he should be gracious and pass the buck to the next generation also oppose the old trio of actors being on board for the movie, as they will be taking screentime away from the younger actors?
Brónach 1,330 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Pretty much, yeah. As of this moment, without knowing what exactly they have in mind, it feels forced.
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 So, do those who oppose Williams scoring episode VII, saying he should be gracious and pass the buck to the next generation also oppose the old trio of actors being on board for the movie, as they will be taking screentime away from the younger actors?Yes, absolutely.
Luke Skywalker 2,386 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Since it wont be just a reunion film (as if they were only doing one more film), but a passing of the torch, imho i think it is neccesarry to have the old actors.I hope they do it without ruining the best parts of the EU though...And yes, bring Williams. I hope he can do the whole trilogy. but if they plan to make infinite trilogies in the skywalker saga... then i wouldnt mind if Giacchino steped on...I mean if the make a trilogy about The old republic era, i dont mind who is the composer (Griskey should be in this case ) . I just want williams to score the main story films.
Brónach 1,330 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Why is necessary to have them for a passing of the torch??? Just pass the torch already.
Luke Skywalker 2,386 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 yoda passed the torch.and nobody complained then (anacronistic statement i know)
Brónach 1,330 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 lolI just want to know something of what they're doing for real. So I can either drool or complain.
Richard P 5,304 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I'd love to hear what Williams could do in the Star Wars universe without Lucas cutting it to shreds, and with a decent story (meaning some inspiration). And I'm not the biggest fan of Gia's Trek score. I'd personally prefer this franchise stayed musically at home.
Luke Skywalker 2,386 Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Not officially confirmed...but it seems Harrison Ford has said that he believes that Han Solo will be in EP VII, and he is looking forward to it!http://wgntv.com/2013/03/19/harrison-ford-hints-to-return-to-new-star-wars-film/
Datameister 2,586 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 It still cracks me up that until a few months ago, there was "definitely" never going to be an Episode VII, and Harrison Ford was "definitely" never going to play Han Solo again. Not that I'm complaining! It's just amusing.
Luke Skywalker 2,386 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 i suppose that with lucas leaving the helm ford may want to give it a try...
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,390 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 It's either Star Wars again or Blade Runner 2!
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,390 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Well, the Anchorman sequel is upcoming!
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,390 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Is that the re-imagined version of 24?
gkgyver 1,647 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 So, do those who oppose Williams scoring episode VII, saying he should be gracious and pass the buck to the next generation also oppose the old trio of actors being on board for the movie, as they will be taking screentime away from the younger actors?Yes.I doubt a JW Star Wars score in two or three years from now would be awfully inspired, and I doubt a film with Ford, Hamill and Fisher in their twilight years would look terribly inspired.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,390 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Just trying to imagine the horror of watching the current Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher in 1080P
Wojo 2,458 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Too bad they killed off Jabba. With Carrie Fisher, they'd only need one puppeteer.
Quintus 6,499 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Star Wars Episode 7: The Botox Strikes Back
Luke Skywalker 2,386 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I hope they naturally put themselves to fitness. I dont want surgically altered Luke and Leia... Yuck!I try to picture how the movie could look like...and i get goosebumps thinking about the big three battling the badguys like in old times, with all that chemistry and fun. But of course i picture them as they are supposed to be aged in the Expanded universe...not their real status... In their nowadays status...it gives me the creeps....
Rachael Foley 10,164 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 They will probably tape back their faces like in FOTR
Wojo 2,458 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 This is why the big three don't have any place in sequels. They're too old to be a gracefully aged Knight, pirate, and princess.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,390 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Ford would be somewhat tolerable because we have seen him slowly age throughout the years in other films, and he actually looks very good still.Hammil and Fisher do not!
Brónach 1,330 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Hammill with a beard would look cooler than Ford.
Jonesy 55 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Hammill with a beard would look cooler than Ford.I'd like to see that. It could be something like this:
Ollie 1,375 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I wonder what changed Ford's mind? His disdain for Solo and at times the films, has been widely publicized.Granted his box office appeal has fallen like Wyle E. Coyote of a cliff so maybe enough box office duds and chance to redeem himself after KOTCS was too much of a temptation by going back to another "beloved" character.Of course I'm still sleptical they are gonna get thiose done by 2015.
A24 5,156 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 The work, of course, what else? His hatred for Blade Runner is legendary and yet he's telling everyone he wants to be in the sequel. I think Ford was fortunate and talented in creating a few iconic characters but that was when he was at the height of his powers and when had the right age. It's best to leave it alone and keep the magic.Alex
Once 1,084 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 "I might have said things in the past that were characterizations of how I felt at the time," he said. "That was then. This is now. It doesn't matter."- Harrison FordSource
Quintus 6,499 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 But BloodBoal, Ford is still very rich, and very famous...
crocodile 9,724 Posted March 31, 2013 Author Posted March 31, 2013 Rich people don't go poor the same way we do. (Hey, am I actually mis-quoting TDKR here?)Karol
Quintus 6,499 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 "Fame" is a very subjective term. Not for superstars it isn't.
