  1. Pity. I think the Academy Voters should be sending out that message, if only it is a way to get younger composers to Lift. Their. Game. and give us quality, not overbaked Zimmer droning. And yes, I agree a Lifetime Achievement award is warranted, just for having stuck it out this long in such a soul-draining business, and still giving us quality work.
  2. Those opening 7 notes sound like the end 7 notes of the Ark theme from Raiders, but with "softer" harmony. The first 4 notes also follow a similar direction to the first 4 notes of the CE3K theme (up a bit - down a bit - down a bit more). Wouldn't it be funny if the Ark really belonged to the aliens, and when it was opened it sent a message to its owners to come, and now they're here? This film isn't part 3 of a Spielberg UFO Trilogy; it's a direct sequel to Raiders 🙂 Just my opinion.
  3. My opinion is that in the eye of the voters Williams has become "too famous", and "too awarded" in other areas (e.g. having a recording studio named after him, receiving an honour from Predident Obama, etc). So the Oscar will go to someone who needs more exposure in the industry than Williams does, no matter how deserving the DD score is of the Oscar.

  5. I always thought Super 8 was an implied E.T. sequel. To explain: I looked at the scenario of what would have happened if E.T. never escaped but was caught by the government agents. Being kept locked up on Earth, E.T. grows up in to the Super 8 monster. He is angry because "they" took Elliot away from him, and he still wants to go home.
  6. It'll probably be called "ET's Close Encounter with the War of the Worlds"
  7. So it looks a bit on the modern atonal side. Yet some of the swirling runs on page 2 suggest a Broadway/Hollywood Overture feel. Intriguing.
  8. Hey! That's me! (no, not Mike; the other guy) I feel famous! 😀
  9. Sittin' flat on your bum doesn't buy any CD box sets. There are CDs back at home, And the CDs have got to be played And we're lucky to have Mikey M, And La La La Land... Not to mention Intrada.
  10. Bring on Vol. 0: 1956 - 1968, including TV scores. Edit: wishful thinking on my part. If only.
  11. Track 1 on CD3 is "... The Beach Attacks." So, the Sand was getting in on the act too? Or was it a killer Rip Tide? Or was Amity Beach acting as the shark's accessory during the whole movie?
  12. Try Screen Archives Entertainment site. It should be cheaper, may be by not much, but still cheaper.
  13. A 3CD (or more) release for all John Williams scores should be de riguer. When I rule the Universe I will make this mandatory.
  14. Pity this is a slow seller. But it's down to its last 50 units, so maybe it won't take long now. As much as I'd like to get this release, I've held off because: 1. exchange rate; 2. cost of shipping a 3 CD set to Australia at US rates (see point 1); and, 3. I already have the original and 30th anniversary releases. The new material on this set doesn't justify the expense as per points 1 and 2. If I DIDN'T have the previous releases I would have bought the LLL straight away. The completist in me could still possibly be swayed, however. I wonder how many of us regular JW fans who normally buy all these updates are in the same boat, and therefore contributed to the slow sales?
