I get the collector appeal of LPs, particularly the cover art and funky looking discs (?) but it feels like going backwards, sound-wise. I want my music to sound the same every time I play it.

    They were thinking

No music will give it a quasi documentary feel, consistent with some of the editing and direction.
The brilliant sonics alone would mirror the WWII airplane engines and rat-a-tat-tat sounds from the old dogfight footage that inspired and temped the scenes.
The first initial bombing runs would leave suspense up to the viewers and not telegraph what would happen if there was no score.
The final bombing run by Luke would have more dramatic intensity and catharsis if the music picked up after Red Leader got vaporized, and Luke Skywalker was now in charge of the final chance.

Favorites are obviously useful for finding more scores you're likely to enjoy, sure.

But I hear a score and have determined I like it, I honestly don't care who composed it. Hence if Indy 5 had been scored by someone else and they ended up doing a brilliant job, I wouldn't care. I think I'm just pre-disposed to find the whole 'my composer is better than yours' a bit odd.

I ran this sample through AudD and AHA, a couple of Chrome music recognition tools (like Shazam, but recognise non-commercial tracks too) and both came back with this exact title but no album cover, which tends to happen with library music. Hence the track it's from is in some music database somewhere.

If this is a sample of the last track on the album, that makes sense, but why 'Trailer Version' is in the title is just weird, unless Williams has bizarrely opted to name an album track like that.

According to Torn Music it appears to be a combination of the studio wanting the film to appeal to a younger audience, and Scott/others deciding that the final movie didn't match the 'fairytale' tone they'd tried to do, and that changing the score might help.

Hence it doesn't sound like it was one single person or decision, but shifting perceptions of what the movie is and who they want it to appeal to.

I've seen Fast Five, and possibly 6 as well; not sure.

Tyler's score for 5 has some good bits, partly action (essentially the vault heist) and partly the character stuff reflecting the Brazilian setting.

As far as I'm concerned with the movies, they're dumb fun with preposterous but spectacular and exciting action, and critics should treat them as such.

Of the people I talk to about films, not one of them would decide not to go to see a big blockbuster film based on a negative review from a film festival that no 'normal' people to go.

This is just an exercise for critics to debate amongst themselves.

I don't know what else people were expecting from this. Most people will recognise the Raiders March if anything. Few (or no) reviews from previews like this will go into detail about new themes, set pieces or the sort of stuff we're interested in.

Plus we've already established from Rickman's assessment of the HP score that even people deep in the industry don't like old-fashioned orchestral music that most of us find exciting, hence the 'overused' quote above.

The album or the film will tell us how good this score is, or at least someone from our community seeing it and providing an honest, non-crowd-pleasing assessment.

Focus on gadgets, decent villains and ridiculous action. Not on Bond getting revenge for something.

I agree about the two potential extremes, but I find it hard to see this one particularly. If the video above had used just some generic fantasy music (and there's loads of that in libraries) then I'd tend to agree that maybe they're moving on.

However, this track is clearly an attempt by a composer to get as close as possible to Williams' theme, strongly suggesting to me that they wanted to use the original but couldn't.

I'd see it the other way round - if budgets for this sort of thing aren't what they were, using Williams' music might just be one of the things they lose.

Yes, it's a strange one - it's not like they're using a generic fantasy adventure type library music, but a piece that was clearly composed to be a soundalike for SW.

But I don't think that points to anyone hating SW/Williams - quite the opposite in fact, because the music is so remininiscent. Could just be the producer of these videos looking at their budget and deciding there are things that need it more than having Williams' actual music in them.

Makes you think, what could take ages for some reason (possibly with paperwork), warrant something from Williams in the liners, but perhaps not have that 'star release' appeal.

I personally think JP3 needs expansion the most out of all of the franchises he started.

Your analysis of releases at the start is actually quite an educational read for someone like myself, with very little knowledge of the details of the individual releases.

I think it also highlights the challenge of getting proper expansions of these 3 scores - it takes some rather technical explaining to understand what the problems are.

Somewhere I've got the 2-CD set of ESB, purchased cheaply while at uni as a rather optimisic attempt to get into the score (it didn't work).
