Well yes, in the 90s, but once I'd started to establish some sort of actual interest in music (beyond the typical stuff of the time) it was the end of the 90s and I was doing it on my PC.

That my first score purchase was Sleepy Hollow is an indication of how much time I spent in the mp3 world of the early 00s. (I genuinely didn't realise that you were meant to buy scores on CD, like regular albums)

I have my full collection in 320 MP3 on my phone (about 30,000 tracks, plus 30,000 more non-film score tracks on there).  I use my PC strictly for file management and syncing with the phone.

Primarily iTunes on my PC, where my whole collection is at. Occasionally streaming on Spotify, but only for sampling (I don't have a subscription). On YouTube if I can't find it on Spotify. Often in VCL when I'm sampling new digital promos, before I decide whether I'm importing it to my iTunes collection or not. My iPod when I'm out and about. I never use my phone for music listening.

I intend to play both my old CDs and LPs more prominently in the future, but I'll need to wait untill I have a new apartment where the setup is just right.

I'm all over the idea of getting an expanded Amistad from LLL and I'm sure it'll happen sooner than later, but...

Gotta be honest, this cover art reminded me of Saw more than anything else.

The Harry Potter theme doesn't sound Russian anymore than it does American. In fact, strictly speaking, it doesn't even sound British...

That's because JW wasn't aiming to make this sound a specific country. It's not typical "national" music, it has no cultural identifying marks. If anything, it only sounds like Hogwarts--like magic, academics, and a sense childlike wonder and awe. And those things are pretty much universal.

In my opinion, Doyle did the worst job of all. Of course he had John Williams behind him, which is generally a burden for a composer, but unfortunately his score generates zero emotions for me and hardly has a good moment in the film.
Wow! Didn't knew that one. Thanks!

    Oh, definitely!

And Prokofiev and Shostakovich and Borodin... In fact John Williams even recorded an entire album paying homage to the classic Russian masters.

Not sure whether Rowling said it or not (somehow I doubt it), but that's definitely true.

Tchaikovsky was a major influence on Williams. That's common knowledge.

That's the Tower Records Flagship Store in Tokyo, Japan. I'm not there right now, but I've been there in the past. Second to none, when it comes to CDs. They've got everything on massive nine floors!

Man, that's some store. Imagine waking up in the morning, casually strolling into a store, making a small purchase (say, 6 albums worth around 200 bucks), and then going home, with an extra spring in your step...

I'm thinking of the recent trend of expansions that have had replacement discs issued, like AI and Eiger. I'm sure Tower would have no problem replacing a disc that e.g. wouldn't play.

And I hope I get another chance to shop at a Tower Records in Japan! It's the most magical place. I documented my last adventure here:

Josh500 reacted to GerateWohl in Do you prefer for LLL's Jurassic Park and Harry Potter Soundtrack Collections to be limited or not?
@Holko Yes, sorry. You made a proposal. But I understand that the question how much they print is not only a question of win/loss but also a contractual obligation. Anyway, I did not really notice your proposal.
Still I think, like Josh, digital release plus limited physical would be the best compromise for all.

Why would I fight Josh? He is a nice guy and I respect his oppinion like I respect yours. And I find the comments to him particularly insulting and inappropriate.
I even respect those saying that I am a selfish person. Probably, I am. Still I find the way of argumentation here particularly low level.

Yes, Josh's example with the houses was not good, neither was Jerry's litany of the poor and disappointed student just longing for a little expansion, but the evil selfish people dare to find a situation alright where he is taken the chance to ever get what he desires.

At the end you and some others took the discussion down to "Who thinks that current situation with limited expansions is not perfect but ok is an asshole".
Actually, I voted after you wrote that, also because I thought, it must be possible here to have a different opinion here without getting offended. Probably, I should not have.

I admit, that the situation, that the limited releases are currently the ONLY way to get these expansions, is not good. Digital releases in addition would be the best option, I still think that. But to give then some exclusiveness to the physical releases is ok, since they are not cheap, especially when you purchase them from outside the U.S.

And I have to say as well, particularly the reason why I buy expansions is that they are the only available release of a soundtrack. BECAUSE ALL THE UNLIMITED OST ALBUMS ARE NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE. So much for unlimited releases.

Anyway, this is my last post in this thread. I am done with this topic. Really.

It's really a question of whether an album is advertised as limited from its release... That's obviously different from an unlimited album eventually going OOP after several years, for whatever reason.

Exactly! Well said. I wanted to write something exactly like that myself. I think some people just have a very hard time accepting the fact that other people have a different view on things than themselves.... Something you see more and more often these days, on not just on this topic.

Josh500 reacted to GerateWohl in Which are the last 2 John Williams scores that you personally consider to be "masterpieces"?
Honestly, for me it's probably War Horse and The Force Awakens as most marvelous scores in the recent years. Apart from that all Williams scores of the past 20 years are outstanding musical works without serious competitors around.
