Mid-April is going to be awesome guys. This and Last Jedi trailer!!

I love Williams fanfares so I am absolutely hyped for this. So glad to be finally 100% certain that it hasn't been cancelled.

Now here's a Hollywood CGI-fest where I'm actually rooting for Giacchino or literally anyone to replace the composer.

I was trying to elucidate for Thor why some might find this sort of thing distasteful - I know that I would be uncomfortable, at my age or Williams' to know there is an ongoing analysis of these parts of my life.  This is just my perspective, though I understand the historical appeals.  I said nothing about you.  The indignant response is hardly necessary.

    I kinda agree with this.

Williams is a public figure, but also a rather private man. I certainly don't feel just because we are fans of his music we are entitled to anything more than that.

I'm just annoyed that he seems to dump projects with much more potential for these kind of courtroom dramas.

I don't know. Something like BRIDGE OF SPIES didn't really seem very interesting on paper, but Spielberg managed to turn it into something very worthwhile. One of my favourite movies last year. THE BFG is a different story, agreed. So even if this latest Meryl Streep project doesn't seem to be up my alley, I will always keep the door open in case he's able to transform it. It seems to me that it's the 'action adventure' stuff he's struggling with these days; the more "serious" fare is much better.

I liked when he talked about putting lots of short tracks on albums to get around the choir usage rights.
If you didn't watch the whole thing - a 2:30 track with 30 seconds of choir still counts as 2:30 worth of choir on the album. But isolate the choir bit in its own track and it only counts as 30 seconds. That explains why things like the Horton Hears A Who main titles are split into three tracks.
    Clever.

I think the general disappointment with this news is less to do with desiring better "entertainment" than the fact that Spielberg has explored this medium tirelessly with little to say really. Williams, even less so. Though they both churn out competent, and poignant efforts, they are tired all the same.

Meh.  Another Spielberg movie about documents and the brave men and women who read them.

Hopefully he'll do The Kidnapping of Edgardo first.

Can we take a moment here to just appreciate the sheer brilliance of this cue. All the themes which are woven together, even a new theme for the falcon, snowy's theme, Tintin's theme. The change in metrum when Haddock falls through some laundry, the flute when the falcon flies through the building, the climatic version of Tintin's theme at the end. I cannot recall a cue by another film score composer that has this level of complexity!

X2 was pretty pedestrian, only occasionally elevated by Hugh Jackman and Ian McKellan.

Hmph, but I saw "X2", years ago. It was a nothing movie, it may as well have never had existed. Unless... unless it's one for the fans of the X-Men??

And now Logan is just as good as that, is it?
    Right, okay.

My guess is, it's EpVIII related.

12 timpani seems so over the top, it's most likely for some sort of set piece that will feature them very prominently.

This sounds like the kind of orchestrational fun Williams likes to have on occasion, almost like an hommáge to the days of Herrmann-esque or North-ian excess.

I can't really think of anyone else working in Hollywood who would have the chops to pull off something so outrageous.
