The perspective is important. To many in California, Williams is a hero, but also a local musician who lives in the other part of L.A., and from time to time conducts something locally, can be seen behind the scenes or randomly if one is lucky, or seen at a local concert. To many Americans he is a compatriot from one of the bigger cities and a famous conductor of a popular national orchestra.
 
To continental Europeans he is a hero from faraway, only ever heard or seen through a screen or other mechanical medium, who has never really interacted with their countries or even continent.. Most of even the biggest fans have already come to terms with the reality that they will never see him in the same world they live in.
 
So yes, it was quite a coming!
 
The fervent applauses were not because of the music really, the way one would measure if a Bruckner symphony was played well, but because, each time they were only allowed to, people wanted to thank him for being there for them.

The Star Wars main title is definitely from Sunday - I can see myself there.  So both days footage. Cool!

Anyway, we were extremely, I mean EXTREMELY lucky that this concert happened, Corona was already an Issue in China back then and if it break out sooner, this would be cancelled again. Oof.

There is no need for swift release, and I hope they wont hurry - more time = more attention. 

Parasite is about the increasing gap between poor and rich. The Oscar is clearly a political message. 

I was the one who sat there after the pause - it was looking really sad to have such an empty place in front of JW  himself...

There's also tons of microphones hung from wires that run from one balcony to the other in the Musikverein. I assume that's what is used for livestreams and radio broadcasts and will also be used here in addition to the mics that were specially set up. 
 
Edit: I should also mention that the Musikverein's Golden Hall basically serves as Vienna's recording studio for orchestral music. So it should sound very well indeed. 😉

Just listened! Sounds kinda predictable - this is definitely "auto-pilot Williams" as some here like to say, and at times it sounds like he is aping "The Flag Parade." 
 
Nevertheless, it's as usual very well done, and harkens back to his 80s sound in parts. I particularly like the little trumpet interlude midway through - sounds like something out of Amazing Stories. 

I don´t agree. The best performance is priority always.

Thank you for capturing it - I hope that the official release will look better, it has horrible colors and contrast.  But I am happy that the performance footage is from Sunday.

Well I must say that on Saturday there was a more “woodstock” atmosphere but the Sunday wasn’t cold either

Yeah, I guess his walk isn't exactly sprightly. But his arms and upper body are probably in much better shape than his legs. 60 years of conducting will do that to you!.

It's a great piece, but I wish he'd have done "The Rise of Skywalker" instead. What better place to give the world premiere of that one, than the Musikverein with the VPO?

I could look at photos of JW touring overseas museums all year round!
 
It's so heartwarming seeing him outside the US and exploring unfamiliar lands (especially with the rich history that Europe holds). I wonder what inspiration he will take from this trip and apply to his work, moving forward?

Front seat gives, front seat takes. Not a good angle fora a top secret filming (unless the dirigent is a hot woman in mini skirt) but the force was strong there. 

Or, at least, some Zimmer :-)

You mean concert versions of themes? I would actually love to hear concert suites / medley based on material from the movies.  Or just give me  the ESB end credits, Ben's Death and Tie Fighter Attack and Final Battle from a New Hope and I will be happy.
