Joni Wiljami reacted to Tydirium in Thoughts on Natalie Holt Tweet
I understand your point, but I don't think women are really discouraged/intentionally left out when it comes to film music these days. I mean, the woman who made the Tweet that is the topic of this thread, just last year scored the highest-profile/most-anticipated Star Wars show of 2022. Heck, Hildur WON the Oscar for 2019, and Germaine Franco was nominated for 2021... In all honesty, part of me wonders at what point this whining is going to stop? Does it need to be an even 50/50 split between men and women? Do we need some sort of "reparations"/revenge period, with vastly more women than men being nominated/awarded? For all of the progress on this front in recent years, you would think such a Tweet wouldn't see the light of day, especially from Holt of all people.

This was achieved when Holt scored Star Wars.

I don't like these statements. People should be nominated for what they did, not for who they are. We should absolutely have more female composers in high profile jobs, but this positive discrimination just doesn't work.

Joni Wiljami reacted to Romão in [Betting Poll] Will The Fabelmans win the Best Original Score Oscar?
Different scores have different competition in different years and have to contend with different circustances. It's pointless to compare the award recognition of scores released in different eras

Not sure if this has been pointed out but --
John Williams is the first nonagenarian to ever be nominated for an Academy Award, and therefore the oldest person ever to be nominated.
The first person to have been nominated for films released within seven consecutive decades (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, 20s). Rise of Skywalker had previously gotten him nominations in seven consecutive decades for Oscar ceremony years (2020 for a 2019 release)
And he has once again beaten his own record for the most Oscar nominations for a living person with 53. As ever, he is second behind Walt Disney with 59.

wow just shows how corrupt the awards season rubbish is! Love mr williams but this score is his worse in my opinion. Certainty doesn't deserve to be nominated. Yes I will put my tin hat on!

Here's a little snippet from the rehearsal that was included in Austrian TV news.

Maybe we'll get something more complete from the ball itself tomorrow. A recording would be nice, though. (maybe in conjunction with his entire 2nd Vienna concert?)

Great news!! I wonder is there any filmed footage of the 'you need a better composer' incident?

I encourage people to drink a lot of tea because without tea in your diet, you die.

Eh... it is not the speed that lifts up the bicycles. The powers of E.T. lifted them up...😎
