Some of the choral work is absolutely ethereal and seems to connect directly with the soul on an almost tangible level.
 
As someone once put it to me, it makes one miss people one has never met.
 
If Face of Pan was based on Agnes of God, I have to say Williams took that piece and absolutely elevated it into the stratosphere.

Ordered. Was in two minds about it, but I work with a couple of very nice Spaniards who are going home for Christmas and were happy for me to buy them this and The Long Goodbye as Christmas presents. If it turns out they don’t like film music, they’ll bring them back in January when we go back to work. Or something like that.

It's a good moment, but I get the same feeling not in that track, but in "The Face of Pan"/"You are the Pan". Always have. One of the best John Williams compositions of all time, that one.

I do wish someone like Mike would rescue Jane Eyre (the film) from whatever domain it is in. I have a dodgy DVD bought from Amazon some time back and the picture and sound are truly awful 😞

That's the one I ended up using so thanks again. If it's got frame perfect editing that will be useful for a fanedit I'd like to do down the line. 

I don't think the film version works that well, musically. The build-up to the theme in the album version is more satisfying.

Why would you say that? Intrada has expanded quite a few of the MCA Williams OSTs.

Big recommendation.

I mean, my own Morricone collection is really small, and not just compared to his entire output, but to what I have by other composers. I only have about a dozen of his scores (though several of those twice or even thrice). But I definitely wouldn't want to miss most of those.

I'm unfamiliar with that film, and it's score... and don't actually own any Morricone scores.

Has anyone ever tried polishing older jewel cases to remove scratches and shine them up? I've heard that headlamp restorer can deliver good results but have yet to try it.
 
 
 

I tend to follow a simplistic approach with my film scores on digital:
 
Title (Album)
Title (Expanded)
Title (Complete)
Title (New Recording)
Title (Bootleg)
Title (Album - Remaster)
etc.
 
For multi-film sets, such are Quartet's new Heidi/Jane Eyre, I split them into separate albums with unique artwork.
 
For genre metadata, I use "film music", "television music", or "game music".

So, looking back we can state, that this was a great year for John Williams fans, looking at all the releases, that we got this year. 
For my taste some of them could have been released a little earlier in the year. 
 
But just looking at the releases of November and December, the 20 disk box + Hook + Heidi/Jane Eyre. That was great. Plus a brand new score, Dial of Destiny, which was also delivered in November for many (if it was delivered).
 
Just want to say, I am more than happy with what we got.
