I wonder if, considering this was the last John Williams Star Wars recording session, if they recorded something special...

Expectation: An epic suite covering all the major themes of the nine movies.

Reality: A 16 seconds insert on a very minor cue comprised mostly of suspenseful strings that won't even be audible on the movie that JW had to write on the last few days as Abrams kept changing the edit.

"Hello, J.J. Baby? Yes, we just got done! We're all over here celebrating! Can you believe it? 42 years and I'm finally finished! And with only a month to spare! I was really starting to get nervo... Wh... What do you mean you 'needed to tweak the ending?'"

i think one of the give-aways is that 'oomph' that the brass has in the snippet above and in the Anthony Daniels retrospectives, it sounds nearly the same as the mixing for TLJ. plus the clear Roses' theme transformed in an interesting way with an actual orchestra that also sounds like the ST style of mixing in the Bell commercial all but confirms that, surprisingly, all these pieces are from TROS.

So well said. This is exactly me too. It’s hard when there aren’t any people near or dear to me to talk to about JW or film music generally, let alone the minutiae of specific scores. I hadn’t really thought before how much I rely on this forum, but I see now it’s a lot.

Absolutely. I'm not trying to be overly mushy here, but I am incredibly grateful for this forum's existence, now more so than ever. Without JWFan, I'd be anticipating this coming soundtrack in isolation. I can't walk into work and ask if everyone thinks Williams will end TROS with Rey's theme or Binary Sunset but if I create a thread here I get a bazillion responses.

To able to share in this excitement with so many other like-minded people, to be able to discuss and speculate on details large and small is such a truly awesome feeling, one that I try to not take for granted. These sequel trilogy scores may very well be the last time the forums acquire this large communal anticipatory feel. I say this not to be all doom and gloom, but more just in an effort to remind everyone to try and savor this fun time, and as a reminder to myself that I'm lucky I don't have to do it alone.

So this is interesting. That same company who just seemingly premiered our first taste of music from TROS, features the same music used in the Anthony Daniels videos in another video (the ending, anyway). It sounds like the way JW would end a concert suite in this style. See here at 0:21:

Which begs the question, if two separate companies are using this same piece of "library music" (and one of these companies used actual score from TROS in another commercial), does that mean Disney supplied this music to various companies for marketing purposes? And if so, could that mean this is an electronic re-arrangement of something JW recorded for TROS, just like synth re-arrangements of The Spark being used for various products associated with TLJ?

I actually like the smaller sound of the orchestra, especially the brass. It really sounds like an homage to classic Western sounds (also paid tribute to with scores such as Red Dead Redemption:
    )

The track "HammerTime" is sooooo good.

Did you notice how those intense strings are playing the main motif in that track?   Versatile indeed!

Well Solo is real Star Wars music, so not hilarious at all.

There is also the assumption that if a movie is brightly colored, it is for younger audiences. I find that BS, but that is a prevelant feeling. Some of the serious Oscar type grave movies at the end of the year are desaturated to the point of being almost black and white.

I think some softcore sex scenes might spice things up.

That preposterous paternity plot, and kids being switched at birth and the dwarf care-taker and Leta LeStrange and that African American wizard chasing through something and love triangle between Newt's brother, Leta and Newt and Nicholas Flammel being there for no reason at all.

I was like what the fuck is even going on? How about we focus on the characters you established in film 1 - Newt, Tina, Queenie, Jacob and Grindlewald. They were present but flung to the sidelines with all this garbage stuff taking center stage.

It's if imagine after the first Harry potter film, the movies shifted to Neville's paternity, and Padma Patil's brother and Vincent Crabbe's love triangle.

She truly lost it I feel. To the extent you wonder - what the heck was she trying to even write. It is incomprehensible.

Rian Johnson would direct a far more dynamic movie than anything David Yates can achieve.

Does the script state that all characters should just stand idly in frame? Does the script state that all characters need to be dressed in the same dull, grey, beige clothes? Does the script state that all the camerawork needs to be washed out and dull, with very little dynamic movement or visual interest? People just move from one black/grey/brown set to another. They either sit in a room or stand in a room. They move to another room and stand some more. These films are relentlessly dull and stale in their camera use, it's a huge part of the reason they aren't resonating with viewers (especially for a so-called "magical" universe; Yates direction feels like a Jane Austen film adaptation for the Hallmark channel).

The problems with these films go far beyond the terrible screenwriting; stop using the script as an excuse for David Yates' total lack of inspiration as a director. A fresh set of eyes is perfectly capable of fixing most of these issues. We heard ad nauseum that the reason his Potter films looked and felt stale was because it reflected the Wizarding World having the life sucked out of it by Voldemort. So why on earth do these films look and feel the same as his Potter films from the beginning, before Grindelwald is even a factor?

It reminds me more of the Verizon March music than actual JW music. It sounds too clean and simple for modern JW.
