As Yavar pointed out on FSM, Varese's spring cleaning sale has some pretty appealing titles on display, including Family Plot at just $5. I'm tempted to get that plus the Deluxe Edition of Star Trek: Nemesis (on sale for just $8), but first want to see what La-La Land cooks up for Thursday

The original novel is a childhood favorite of mine and the idea of a sentimental Americana Goldsmith score has me hooked.

Up there among his great romantic themes.  Nothing will ever top his achingly gorgeous theme for "Age of Innocence," which I apparently have to mention at least once a day.

I was just looking at the films of the guy who directed A Walk in the Spring Rain, Guy Green.

In the space of 10 years he worked with:
    Malcolm Arnold (The Angry Silence)
    Johnny Williams (Diamond Head)
Dimitri Tiomkin (55 Days at Peking)
Jerry Goldsmith (A Patch of Blue)
    Michel Legrand (Pretty Polly)
Elmer Bernstein (A Walk in the Spring Rain)

Quite a variety of film scoring legends, pretty much all on movies that history has completely forgotten (except for A Patch of Blue, at least).

The only thing I'm sure about now is that I won't get the original recording of Conan the Destroyer.

The Intrada 3CD set is 50€! The Prometheus 2CD set is just 20€!

Quartet is already the special label to complete the quartet of the most important special labels: La-La Land, Intrada, Varese Sarabande and Quartet!

Indeed, F+B just feels...easier. More accessible. For me, at least.

Why not get it direct from SAE? Still available: http://www.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm?ID=3307

That's exactly what I'm asking for.

I myself voted Goldsmith. Meanwhile I can say that. For a long time it was Williams (since I was 12 years old), but my admiration for Goldsmith increased gradually (as it usually does) and now I'm sure that I prefer him over Williams.

By all means come! We have fatty foods, slow internet, low wages, corrupt and stealing politicians... Wait, that describes every country on Earth...
Technically, torrenting is different because you're uploading while you're downloading, but nobody's gonna persecute simple downloaders, just the original file creators, since everybody knows all 9.5 million of us do it.

That would require rewatching the episodes. Are the episodes rewatchable? They seem to rely on “shock” value (though you can see all the “surprises” coming after the first few episodes).

I really have to admit I expected a bottlecap, but it is not. "First Meeting" and "The Cementery" are major highlights of the score. "Portrait of Katya" and "Who Is He?" also add to the melancholic part of the score. In general, the lengthy OST still left off a few important cues and relied too heavily on the "spy"-music of the score. The C&C has important additions to the "drama"-aspect.

It's sad CBS turned down veteran composers like Cliff Eidelman. They would have done a much better job in my opinion.  The score for this series is largely unforgettable.

It's not just the score that's forgettable, either -- the series is mediocre at best, and rarely at its best.  Whichever of the previous Treks is my least favorite (there are a few candidates, though I like them all), it's dynamite compared to the hogwash that is Discovery.

Personally the actual melody in the background of the KCET signoff does sound like it could be Williams-composed, to me.

The Discovery main theme sounds like three different ideas cut together. It starts out with a statement of the new theme which I think is quite nice, then it turns into something that doesn't sound like 'Trek' at all, finally ending with an awkward statement of the TOS theme.

I think the series needed the punch that Giacchino brought with his scores, it needed to be loud enough to hear and with propulsive music for the action scenes.

Who did CBS turn down for this?

What really mystifies me is all of the people claiming TLJ is somehow much worse than the prequels. That's when I realized how irrational people were being about this movie.

I think one can appreciate a film's impact on the industry, while still disliking the film itself.

That's not to say that I dislike Star Wars. But I can't get into that film the way I can Empire Strikes Back.

You need to keep in mind that Star Wars isn't a big deal around here. I never saw these until I was an adult.

The OT isn't THAT good. People need to learn that enjoying something and that very thing being any good are two different things.

The reactions are overblown to be expected, and all of the fanboy whining really annoyed me. Personally I loved it. I thought it was the best Star Wars film in decades.
