Yes, Stephen Oliver nailed it IMO.

Donald Swann and Leonard Rosenman also both did a great job, albeit within the conventions of their respective genres. I would say the same of Shore.

I like Stephen Oliver's work for the BBC audio drama:

S7 is still pretty high, in my opinion. That season was as bad as the eight one.

I thought I would do a quick-and-dirty analysis of the popularity of the books vs. the seasons of the show.

A Storm of Swords was the basis for seasons 3-4 of Game of Thrones.
The book has a 4.54 rating on Goodreads, and those seasons each have a 97% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

A Game of Thrones was the basis for season 1 of Game of Thrones.
The book has a 4.44 rating on Goodreads, and that season a 96% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

A Clash of Kings was the basis for season 2 of Game of Thrones.
The book has a 4.41 rating on Goodreads, and that season a 96% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

A Dance with Dragons was the basis of season 5 of Game of Thrones.
The book has a 4.32 rating on Goodreads, and that season has a 90% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

    So far so good.

Season 6 of Game of Thrones comes in at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a bit surprising to me, as I thought the season was really flailing. Some of the story material was mined from the not-well-regarded A Feast for Crows, which comes in at 4.14 on Goodreads. However, at a much-touted meeting with the showrunners, George R.R. Martin apparently poured out the answers to various mysteries and the direction of various storylines — for example, things to do with Bran, the origin of the White Walkers, Hodor, Aerys and wildfire, Jon, and Stannis—and these beans were all unceremoniously spilled in Season 6. I will say the finale of this season was magnificent, and probably colored the generally favorable reception of this season.

Seasons 7 and 8 of Game of Thrones are not based on any books at all, and they fall to 82% and 30%, respectively.

There are two remaining books which are being used as the basis for spinoffs. Fire & Blood is the basis of the upcoming House of the Dragon, but the book is a real snoozer with a 3.92 rating at Goodreads. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is better-liked but still no phenomenon, with a 4.21 rating at Goodreads. It will be the basis of the Tales of Dunk and Egg series.

According to A Guide to the Star Wars Universe, Second Edition (1994), Anakin Skywalker was born in the year 55 BBY, and by Star Wars Encyclopedia (1998) this was changed to 41 BBY.

Episode I is set at a point in the timeline which had long been established as the END of the Clone Wars. Obviously at some point in the creative process Anakin Skywalker was in his 20s in Episode I, and I imagine the centerpiece planet was originally Alderaan rather than Naboo.

Episode II could have then been essentially RotS without Order 66, and Episode III could have advanced forward a few years and been about Darth Vader hunting down the Jedi (hopefully characters we cared about from the previous two films).

By the way, both the 1994 and 1998 timeline have Obi-Wan Kenobi’s birth year as 60 BBY. This makes Ewan MacGregor 28 in TPM (exactly the actor’s age) and Alec Guinness 60 in SW (just 3 years off the actor’s age). Not sure why this was retconned.

This is utter rubbish. Going to watch a movie and wanting it not to suck is “greed” now?

It’s not inevitable, as anyone who has read the original sequel trilogy (Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy from the 1990s) can attest. Pitch-perfect characters, pitch-perfect universe, pitch-perfect story, pitch-perfect Force.

I feel happy for the team, truly, that they got to undertake this obvious labor of love. I just don’t see the appeal of adding CGI to an old movie, however. In general I just never like it. But especially here, it’s odd. Who ever watched this movie and said, “You know what this movie needs? MORE SPECTACLE!” Or, “If only this vintage film had special effects that looked the same as every 2022 flick?”

Well, I hope the actual restoration work they have done here (eg., music/sound) can benefit a future release of the SLV.

There is no Episode X, and it's just a coincidence that Rey's and Palpatine's share some notes.
There was no plan to make Rey and Palpatine related until Abrams couldn't write a decent story for TROS.

I'd also love to get the special 12 minutes longer TV extended cut premiered on digital, personally. There are a few things I like in it which no other cut has, and it's only ever been officially released on VHS.

Of course they could have done new VFX in the 21st century using 1978 tech.

With a "real" actress, I would have built a complete scene of few minutes introducing Leia, the commading crew of the ship... reacting to the Imperial Attack.

You know a scene, some dialogues between characters and some music... a SCENE.

TFA is criminally underrated, IMO. I do get why people write off the whole trilogy, but the “TFA is just an ANH clone” criticism doesn’t really bother me, or even really ring true.
