What if you all spend huge money on this set, but then The Complete John Williams Star Wars/Indiana Jones collection is announced on this year's Black Friday?

I dunno, it's an okay score and the Songchord theme is good, but I feel like had it been released 20 or 30 years ago, when great orchestral music was the norm and not the exception, it probably would've received less positive attention. But now, in the age of Lorne Balfe and Junkie XL, when most scores are indistinguishable from sound design, it becomes one of the best scores of the year.

In other words, we were so desperate for decent orchestral stuff that even a passable score like this is like classic Horner.

I agree. In an ideal world, each episode would credit each people who worked on it, and I feel the industry is slowly marching towards there. Willow had Xander Rodzisnki credited for episodes 4 to 8.

Speaking of McCreary, I've been playing God of War: Ragnarok over the past few days, and his score for the game is awesome.

    I think there's a consensus about them.

Please note: If you don't have these scores in your CD collection, we can't be friends!

Yeah at this point it would kind of been poetic to have the MCU begin and end with Tony Stark. It would of also given Marvel the chance to recast and introduce so many characters and factions that should of been there from the begining but weren't available till Disney bought Fox.

That could be great, but I'm not sure if that's how it works. From what I understand, when a team of composers is working on a show (or a movie, but this is a whole other discussion) they receive the scenes they're assigned to score and many times these scenes are not in chronological order. It's not like one person scores episode 2, then other does ep 3, etc., more like someone does 5 minutes of episodes 2 and 3, then his colleague scores 7 more minutes of eps 2 and 4, and so it goes.

But I may be wrong. I guess we'll know for sure when the show comes out and McCreary publishes his inevitable blog post detailing the proccess.

@JTW I'm not a psychologist, but by any chance does this questioning have something to do with your wanting to buy 'The Legend of John Williams' 20 CD box set, despite not needing it? 🤔😄

Last night I dreamt that there was a new season of Gilmore Girls, and John Williams had a guest appearance (a speaking part) in the first episode. I was planning to post about it in the "unexpected encounters" thread, but then I woke up.

Not only TLA is a good score, but also, like many JNH/MNS scores, some of the best cues are still unreleased. This, for example, is just gorgeous:

Oh this isn't a bad memory at all, any time me and my friends went to the theater we had fun even if the movie itself is crappy

When Dominion was released I was already expecting a disaster. So I was on the right mindset for it when I saw it. Unlike FK, which had a decent director behind the cameras and a cool trailer, which made me hope for something much better than it actually were.

And yeah, Bayona's direction is the only good thing on FK. It has some cool shots at least. Dominion didn't even have that.

I thought I'd at least be happy to see the old gang, but Goldblum just plays the kind of caricature of himself that we're used to seeing now, and I find him grating.

The thing that holds TDK back for me is the Joker's magical habilities of everything happening in his favor, even when it involved stuff that weren't under his control. For a movie that became synonymous with "realistic" superhero movies, it almost seems as if the Joker has magical powers. It's kinda like if he was more Mister Mxyzptlk and less Joker.

Which is why (and I know this is an impopular opinion) I think Batman Begins is the best Nolan Bat-movie. It's less ambitious than its sequels and it's just the more efficient because of that. Nolan tried to make less of a superhero movie and more of a treaty on chaos, order and politics and it didn't always land, even though TDK still remains a great movie.
