Finally got a chance to listen to the Hook episode!

I always love when Mike M. says something along the lines of I don't know if anyone cares to hear this.... then he proceeds to blow my mind!

No matter how many times I hear this cue, those tolling bells for when the two dinosaurs show up is amazing every time.  What a thing to cut for the OST album

~ 20 or so updates have been pushed to the live chronology following the release of Hook and the Quartet Heidi/Jane Eyre sets with their insights fixing some uncertainty around a few dates for those scores.

The only thing I can find in DD's favour is that he probably did the best that could be done with the elements they had. I don't get a sense of any suggestion that he's a subpar engineer - as I keep saying I think there's nothing in particular wrong with the sound of the 2012 set in terms of the bits that were taken from actual tapes (the Prologue issue aside).

But I listened again to the bulk of Mike's monologue today and what strikes me most is that DD doesn't have any drive to get past the first hurdle. Tapes not where they should be? Oh well... let's just do it from what we have instead of giving some people a call and working with them for a bit to find everything.

Then there's the timely and sensitive way to go about getting SS's go-ahead for the songs, and another probable stumbling block for DD to give up on. Sounds like a different mindset and approach to solving problems between them.

    As I mentioned earlier:

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993) Shirley Walker
Not sure what I can say about this other than "Wow!" It might not be the perfect Batman score (but it might be). But it's the perfect Batman movie. Obviously Walker was standing on Elfman's shoulders but this is my favorite Batman theme. The story of the lyrics being the music departments name's backwards never gets old.

She also runs through all the musical settings of the sunlit Americana of Bruce and Andrea's past. Then the over the top insanity of the Joker's music. It's enough to give you whiplash.

This movie is kind of like Galaxy Quest: I saw it. All my friends saw it. We all loved it. Then I find out it has a "cult" following? Doesn't it just have a "following"? No? Bummer.

May I also humbly recommend trying the original, first version of Banning Back Home to be what's in your new main playlist instead of the revised film version?  I personally find it to be a superior composition and performance, and it's really what John Williams always intended, until the revision was done at the VERY last minute purely because Spielberg carved a minute out of the sequence.

We actually discussed having that original version be the one in the main program, but the CD length limitations were so tight, they couldn't be swapped!

Thanks for the blurb. Of course, in the 4 years since this thread was last active, I've since acquired the film. So if people want to listen to a couple of clips from the score, they can tune in to Part 4 of the John Williams Television Music podcast series:

All of "The Mystics" track shows up on either the episode 7 or 8 album apart from a little 10 second bit.

Right now, there are 2 bits of music on the season 1 album I have not located yet on the episode albums (other than the concert arrangements, I mean)
4:45-5:33 of In The Beginning (0:48) 3:33-end of Nobody Goes Off Trail (0:52) If anybody figures out where they can be found on an episode album, let me know!

    Hi gang,

I have created my own google doc for the score.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iPZSq84CsDwNeyokPVDh4adCyagChXIEW9X_-sYu5sc

    There are two tabs:

Themes - This lists the 17 themes, has columns to show which episodes the themes are heard in, and where the concert arrangements can be found on the season 1 album

Episodes - This compares each episode album to the Season 1 score album to show how Bear pared down episode cues for the album, and at the bottom has some unique music I found on the season 1 album that hasn't turned up on an episode album yet.  I even found two bits of music that got snipped out of the episode 6 album, but are heard on the season 1 album!

For now I've listed the track numbers for the original 37-track album, the new 38-track album, and the CD edition side by side, but I'll probably eventually remove the original 37-track album numbers once the 38-track version replaces it on all platforms.

In the future, I plan on comparing the episode albums to the episodes themselves and timing out and listing the unreleased music heard in each, and also adding the cue names from GEMA if they show up there.

I also plan on listing which themes are used in each episode cues, too, at some point...

Any questions, comments, or suggestions are welcome!
