@Mattris You know what? You're 100% correct. I see now that I was wrong. Episode X-XII are have been completely finished, and will be the best films ever made in the history of history. Episode VII-IX will also become some of the best films ever made because of this, and everyone who doesn't like them will suddenly love them. Also John Williams has already scored all thee of these films and will soon be back next year to score XIII-XIV, and they will be even better. You will be crowned king of JWFan, and replace Andreas and Ricard as site owner. The site will also be renamed to MattrisFan.

    Cruella.

Ok, to all the people (a few of them here) who told me to watch this: Bless you!

This movie is nuts! This is a Disney movie where the heroine makes her Big Move into the plot... Because she is shit faced drunk!

Warning: If you need this to neatly tie in to 101 Dalmatians? Go elsewhere. Cruella and Jasper's relationship alone should put you off of that.

But HOOOOOOO was that SO much FUN!

I don't revisit this as much as I should.

This score is just right for me. I'm sure it's just because I'm familiar with this film and not with the Herrmann scored films. I'm always a little surprised by the darker bits because I'm so used to the joyful main title.

The main title managed to be upbeat without winking at the audience. There was about 10 minutes there (after Star Wars, of course) when that was normal.

This was a good 'un. I love the arrangement of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves on here. I just wish the opening strings were stronger otherwise it would be my default recording.

@Manakin Skywalker @Tallguy The Inperial Attack break is between the big brass crescendo for Vader sending out Stormroopers to search for the plans, and the sustained strings with muted brass for them searching in the hallway with Leia looking around the corner, 3:38 of Manakin's Part 1 video.

The clean end is (IIRC) used when Antilles sends out Leia or something.
Fron what I remember, you just start with that horn rip for Luke picking up the binoculars and heading to see where the Sand People are.

    Sneakers (1992, James Horner)

I always find with Horner scores there are two ways to hear it: The first time Horner wrote a piece of music and the first time you heard a piece of music Horner wrote. (Or, less charitably, the place you heard something because you hadn't heard Capricorn One yet.) If you never heard The Hand Off here maybe the first place you heard it was Apollo 13 or Titanic. And maybe there was an earlier score that I don't know.

That said, this was the first time I heard what would become a large part of the Horner songbook / bag of tricks through the 90's. The opening two tracks are worth the price of the disc alone (Main Title, "Too Many Secrets"). I actually listened to this because pieces of Dune reminded me of Cosmo... Old Friend. (Common source, perhaps?) I remember when movie reviewers were going nuts over A Beautiful Mind I wanted to call them back to this score.

It's almost two scores. There's the bright, bubbly pieces based on The Sneaker Theme. And then there are the cold, wintry tracks like Main Titles and Goodbye.

Maybe there are pieces missing for me from earlier scores that I don't know. But I don't know them and I love this one.

I make what I consider to be pertinent remarks about the nature of cinematic horror, and all you lot can do is to belittle and make fun of me, when I relayed my amorous adventure in a movie theatre. It happened one time. One time, OK?!

I just found an old post I made explaining A Home Destroyed better.  I forgot that the sheets show they actually added bars 14A and 14B to to end Ben and Luke with the Imperial theme to transition to the fleet, and that bar 72 was revised to segue from there into bar 15!

    My old post:

Basically the original 4M4 as written started with the Ben and Luke "learn about the Force" scene in his house, transitioned to Leia being tortured, then transitions backed to Luke & Ben finding the dead Jawas, then Luke going home to see his dead Aunt and Uncle, all in one (long) cue.

But then the film was re-edited, with the board room scene being put where the torture scene was, and the torture scene moved to after Luke at the burning homestead. So as a result, the Ben and Luke scene needed to end with the Death Star Theme now, and that had to be recorded as its own, separate piece, since the board room scene is unscored. That's cue #15, and I suppose doesn't have its own title (unless "Ben and Luke" is the title they came up with for the recording log, per LK "fifth disc" post.). Then, the rest of the cue, starting with Luke and Ben arriving at the dead Jawas and now ending with Leie torture music after Luke at the burning homestead was recorded as cue #16.

    Phew!

    In other words

[4M4] A Home Destroyed (Original Version)
bars 1-14 = Luke and Ben in Ben's house bars 15-30 = Leia torture scene bars 31-74 = Luke and Ben at dead Jawa camp / Luke sees his burning Aunt and Uncle
[4M4] A Home Destroyed (Revised Version)
Recording 1 (Cue #15) - seemingly recorded as [4M4]. old bars 1-14, new bars 14A, 14B = Luke and Ben in Ben's house, with new transition to Death Star at end. Board room scene is unscored Recording 2 (Cue #16) - seemingly recorded as [4M4A]. Handwritten on sheets "R4-P4A" and "now could be R5-P1" . In final film, does in fact open reel 5. old bars 31-71, new bar 72 = Luke and Ben at dead Jawa camp / Luke sees his burning Aunt and Uncle new bars 15-16, old bars 17-30 = Leia torture scene

So long story short, original bars 15-16 and 72-74 were never recorded, and new bars 14A, 14B, 15, 16, and 72 were written later and that's what got recorded.

Funny, I just listened to this yesterday. So glad I did. There's a reason I'm still interested in this score 30+ years later. For some reason Ted's Heroics And Pete's Aura really jumped out at me. Like "Where did THIS come from?"

I did read the liner notes. They're quite good. Informative but they didn't feel like homework. And yes, I always like the info on alternates or for that matter what makes something different from how it was used in the film.

Ahhh "The women in this Bond film will be different, this is really a step forward." Singing that song in Bond films since 1964. And hey, it's even been true in many cases. But they always act like they are the first.
