Fantastic idea for a thread.  There are actually many Williams moments that make me outright uncomfortable in their capturing of "angst."  Must think about this.  But one that comes to mind instantly is the music while Palpatine is electrocuting Luke, just before the statement of the Force theme.  Incredibly disturbing and unsettling.

I agree. Most of my favorite movies didn't even have 5.1 audio when they were originally released. The mono/stereo tracks on the Jaws and E.T. Blu-rays sound better than the remixes.

What's wrong with watching a film with, or, at least alongside, children, and families? I enjoy watching children's reactions to films. I also enjoy being around childrden. Besides, I have a vested interest in pieces of entertainment aimed for children.

That's a fair comment, Pieter. You have always been one of JWfan's more level-headed posters. I respect you for that.
Let's just say that I didn't enjoy it.

Darth Vader was prepared for the eventual hipstery return of the casette format and that thingy is just a tapedeck.

It's a white noise machine, and those buttons will change it from the default "labored mechanical breathing" to "crashing waves," "gentle rain," "night wind," etc.

Bess, you don't really need LC, but you need the DCC Raiders, as it has the full version of "Desert Chase".

Of course, you also need the Concord box!

It's a movie about stealing the plans to the Empire's new superweapon.  Darth Vader is the Empire's Force-wielding enforcer.  Why wouldn't he be in it?

Brilliant, Melange! Fucking brilliant! I played "Brainstorm" on the day that he died....and I cried.  He never composed a finer score.

B indeed. The series is Bb -> Ab -> C, then C -> F#, F# -> Eb and then Eb -> B. It's basically a mixture of chords separated by a minor/major third and a tritone which lends this passage its very colorful sound.

I guess that it has to be "Earthquake", because it is a total re-recording. "Jaws", "E.T.", and "The Eiger Sanction" also come to mind. Bespin is right: "ROTJ" was unforgivable, but, in 1983, that's all we had.

The Tennis Game, while sitting on my bike. If this was composed by Prokofiev or Mussorgsky, the classic Josephs of the world would call it genius. BTW,  that climax!

American Beauty by Thomas Newman: Epitome of quirky Newman and he still finds time to pen a sweet little piano theme to melt your heart for this one.

Angels in America by Thomas Newman: All that is wonderful and tremendous about the composer is here in this impressive package. Beautiful.
