Mission: Impossible - III I liked the first three, was unimpressed with the fourth. My favorite film of the year so far is still V for Vendetta, by a serious margin. robthehand 3
The only film I've been truly impressed with this year is United 93. I have no objection to "serious movies", but it would be nice to have a TRULY great popcorn film once in a whilte, wouldn't it? :?

TheRuleOfThirds 0
Yeah, last summer was better. I haven't liked much of anything this summer. Everything's bland and boring. My faves from last summer were definitely Batman and Star Wars.

robthehand 3
Well, put it this way, there was one film I really liked last summer, this summer there have been none.
tpigeon 3
Last summer was very good in terms of mainstream fare. Revenge of the Sith, Batman Begins, War of the Worlds, and Kingdom of Heaven were all good films. Like them or not, all of them were genuine films, using their mainstream blockbuster "status" to be real movies with real stories, not soulless wrecks like many other Hollywood summer ventures, as this summer has shown. All my hopes this summer now ride on Lady in the Water, Miami Vice, and (yes) Talladega Nights. If this summer isn't too good though, rest assured that the Fall movie season will be one for the ages. You heard it here first.Ted

tpigeon 3
I don't trust Jamie Foxx. I trust Michael Mann. I'm not expecting greatness from it; I want an atmospheric gritty action picture. Early word is negative, but because it's directed by Mann, I reserve some hope.Ted
pixie_twinkle 49
1) POTC2: 9/10 (great fun)2) The Omen: 7.5/10 (fairly solid remake, none too shabby)3) Superman Returns: 7/10 (dull, inconclusive ending to an otherwise excellent movie)4) MI3: 6.5/10 (fun, but we've seen it all before, and better)5) DaVinci Code: 5.5/10 (boring, plodding adaptation of a fun, paper-chase adventure book)
tpigeon 3
you've got time to see 10 movies in less than months?Yes. And I shouldn't limit it to the Fall. I meant the rest of 2006. We will have new films by Brian DePalma, Sofia Coppola, Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, Alfonso Cuaron, Ridley Scott, Guillermo Del Toro, Michel Gondry, Clint Eastwood, and Steven Soderbergh. There's ten films I'll be seeing. And there's many more.Ted
TownerFan 4,992
Let's analyze a very simple thing:. Superman Returns --> Sequel/Remake (based on a major comic-book). X-Men: The Last Stand --> Sequel (based on a major comic-book). Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest --> Sequel. The DaVinci Code --> Adaptation of a major best-seller. Mission: Impossible - III --> Sequel. Poseidon --> RemakeAnd you should count also Scary Movie 4, Big Momma's House 2, The Omen, The Pink Panther and Ice Age 2... Whoa... talk about original ideas! The only exception to the rule seems to be Disney/Pixar's Cars, while other original (?) films are fluffy comedies nobody will remember in six months.Hollywood's creativity is in REAL troubles, especially if we talk about the so-called summer big blockbusters spectaculars.
