What Are The Worst Movies Ever Made?

Jesp, I think you'll like Spoorloos very much, especially after or before seeing the ridiculous US remake The Vanishing.

I saw "The Vanishing". I liked it well enough, but I am sure the original is better. I will see Karakter and Spoorlos.

As an JWfan you will be pleasantly surprised with Karakter.

Trust me, you two only agree on Prequel stuff.

Eh. I read his thread on his tastes. I pretty much agree.

Only partially, you both like the movies of Lucas and Spielberg and derivatives. But it ends there, trust me. Don't make me name a few titles that Roald loves and that makes you eject the content of your stomach, Jeshopk!

Don't do it, Jesse, I got the higher ground!

What are you talking about? Name some then...

Just read my "What kind of films do you like?"-thread. It's all there man. Of course I didn't mention about 467 films I LOVE by name, but you get a clear impression of the cinema I like.

I forgot to mention in that post one of my top 10 favorite films of all time and therefore deserves recognition now: Once Upon A Time In America, the best film of 1984.

Never mind. Alex by the way; can you make a personal Top 10 favorite films? If you can't do it, can you then name 10 films that you find VERY good? Thanks!

Ok, I'll post them on the appropriate thread. But don't laugh, you hear!

Manos: The Hands of Fate

Easily. Oh my sweet God, this movie is so terrible. Years ago, before MST3K got ahold of it, the step-father of a friend of mine had this movie, and dared us to watch it. I didn't understand what he was getting at. I had no idea a movie like that could even exist. This movie isn't even in the vein of 'so bad it's funny' like Plan 9, it's just awful, and caused me serious pain.

Plan 9 is still awful. Just because it's funny because it's awful doesn't change the fact that it's awful.

Perhaps. But it's still better than those movies that are so awful they're beyond enjoyable. :)

Regarding the Batmen mentioned above: Batman Forever and Batman and Robin are truly horrible. The only good things I remember about them are Goldenthal, Clooney, Kilmer and Silverstone.

Marian - who still needs the B&R score.

SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2 has got to be one of the worst movies. The babies were given fake computer mouths. It's just creepy. I couldn't watch more than a few minutes of the movie when it was on tv.

I didn't like Clooney and Silverstone, but Carrey and Jones were good.

- Marc, who considers B&R to be a steaming pile of cinematic feces.

Even if I hate a movie I can usually watch it through at least once. The only movie that I had to turn off, and really felt that I had wasted parts of my life on was Jason X. Undoubtedly the worst movie ever made. It was so bad, it didn't even have humor value to make fun of it. It's simply awful.

For some dark and mysterious reason, I saw the trailer for the next Uwe Boll film. It even said "an Uwe Boll film" on screen. How they hope to attract anyone with that is beyond me. It has Kristinna Loken in a tight leather top, but that's about all there is to this movie.

Has anyone mentioned Superman IV yet?

If you want to talk Superman films, I think Superman III is far more wretched than Superman IV.

I used to think Superman III was the best Superman film.

Richard Pryor was good, and the evil Supe vs. good Supe scene was pretty good. Superman IV had no good parts. bowdown

It's hard to say, but this might just be the worst movie ever made. EVER.

I caught the end of this twice on Showtime. My mind cannot comprehend how something like this gets made. Watch the two clips for some laughs, the second one is just some guy recording his TV, but it's worth watching.

Troll 2 (I do not dignify it with italics), from the 20 minutes I managed to watch in horror, has got to be among the worst movies EVER MADE. At first some humor could be derived, but it's just such trash, it makes you feel icky from wasting your time on it. I don't have to see any more than I did to know that it is to be avoided if at all possible.

Hmm...while probably not the worst film from a "general" point of view, I would nominate Waterworld, as it is (one of) the worst of the few films that I have seen.

1941

Do you really despise 1941 that much? There is no denying that the film is an unmitigated mess of practically 250 confusing story lines that resolve in an arguably unsatisfactory way, but I consider it entertaining nonetheless(that and the "Swing, Swing, Swing" sequence immediately raises it to a level far beyond "Worst Movie Ever", at least in my eyes). One could do far worse, I think.

Yeah, I really despise it that much. There are only a few funny moments (I wouldn't consider the club scene to be one of them). The best aspect is the score, which is fantastic.

I agree with the MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE suggestion. I've tried watching it stand-alone and... I don't think I want to EVER again. lol. However, watching the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version is a bit of an experience that you have to put yourself through at least once. Nothing is more fun than suffering through a really, really bad movie with a group of people! :P

Because, really, MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE was filmed on a vacant lot...

I think it's always interesting to take into account certain things, not least how subjective this can be. After all, one man's Ed Wood might be another man's Scorsese. But also what materials, talent, budget were available to the filmmaker at the time, which I think is why BATMAN & ROBIN rightly is so often mentioned, because it's a picture with some genuinely good actors and artists that managed to make a two-hundred million dollar carcrash. I've seen lots of terrible films on TV, video and the internet, but DEUCE BIGALOW, MALE GIGOLO is probably the worst film I've paid to see.

At least Superman IV has ORIGINAL music by J.W., which makes it essential, in my books. It is also closer in "spirit" to the first two movies than III is.

Howazbout The Swarm (bad film, but what a score???!!!),

Jaws 3-D,

Jaws: The Revenge,

Beyond The Poseidon Adventure,

When Time ran Out,

Poseidon,

Hook,

Diamonds Are Forever, and many more coming soon to a terminal near you (if I can remember them).

I have waxed lyrical on the merits of 1941 at this site for almost ten months, now. Yes, it is confusing, plot-wise, but it boasts superb visual effects, fine cinematography, great sound design, and a brillant score. IMO it is far better than Spielberg's more lauded efforts, such as all films begining with Indiana Jones And The..., Hook, Jurassic Park, and The Lost World,

Did any of you actually watch the clips? Not a single movie you mentioned can hold a candle to Komodo vs. Cobra!

Delorean, Troll 2 is a pretty awful movie, probably one of the worst, but it's just so damn hilarious! I find that a redeeming factor. Well, I guess the movie I just mentioned has that as a redeeming factor too. When a movie is so utterly bad that it can't even make you laugh, those are the worst for me. Meet The Spartans fits that bill.

I started to watch the clip, and I thought that I saw Bill Paxton, so, out of respect for Bill Paxton, I stoppoed watching immediately.

It did give us

though, which is good enough for a laugh.

Something bizarre and hilarious I just found out about is a documentary about Troll 2 called Best Worst Movie. Apparently it's something of a cult phenomenon.

No Bill Paxton. Straight to TV movies can't afford Hollywood actors.
