Corellian2019 got a reaction from Trope in The Ol' College Try
That cue was what convinced me that TTRL was probably his best work

IMO The Thin Red Line is a lovely ambient and reflective work which is a nice stylistic contrast to the over-the-top 90s action music Zimmer was pumping out at the time.
If you're jumping into the score for the first time, I would echo the sentiment of listening to the OST first - It's very well put together, and touches on every major theme/style from the complete score (and some music not on the 2CD LLL main program). If you enjoy that, then you will be able to better appreciate the complete score. Some people find that the main program can drag at times, given most of the music is quite static (rhythmically and harmonically).
But for me personally, the calmness and stillness is what I love about the score, and when I'm in the right mood, there's nothing quite like listening to it and being enveloped by its peaceful tones. Also, any time woodwinds, harps and counterpoint appear in a Zimmer score, it's something to be celebrated.
"Airfield - Bell Flashback" (aka "Light" on the OST) is one of the most beautiful and tender pieces Hans has written. And I say all this as someone who still hasn't seen the film.

Corellian2019 got a reaction from greenturnedblue in Hans Zimmer's THE THIN RED LINE (1998) - 2019 4-CD La-La Land Edition
Yes. At the point of "Welsh & Witt Talk", but most importantly, "Attack On The Bivouac"

Corellian2019 got a reaction from Naïve Old Fart in R.I.P Dan Wallin
Rest in power. He mixed three of my favorites: 48 HRS, RoboCop 2, and The Fugitive

Corellian2019 reacted to danbeck in Introduce me to Leonard Rosenman!
I love Robocop 2, specially in the complete version. It is his score I listen the most (but I still prefer the Poledouris scores for the series).
Never liked Star Trek IV, although the finale/end credits track is very good. But it is the worst trek score for the original cast movies IMO. Would love if Nimoy had brought Horner back to complete the trilogy 2-4 (I imagine a cross between his trek scores and some of his urban style for 48hrs.).
Tried Lord of The Rings several times, but it doesn’t click with me.
Like his more accessible Apes 5 score.
Find both his dissonant Fantastic Voyage and Apes 2 surprisingly listenable. March of the Apes is a good track, even in that psychodelic album version (the Apes2 LP is a wonder in reshaping a score for ‘commercial’ release - sounds like a crazy experiment).
Cross Creek and Hellfighters are very good and more accessible scores.

Corellian2019 reacted to Marian Schedenig in Introduce me to Leonard Rosenman!
No. More than anything, it's very Rosenman, and that seems to be enough for people to hate it (even from the film music community he gets much hate, even for his best scores).
It's nothing particularly great, and it's at times very cheesy (whether that's appropriate for the film or not, I don't know, because I haven't seen that). But mostly it's solid Rosenman.
(I admit it's not interesting enough for me compared to other scores of his to put it on over something else of his, and I'm rarely in a Rosenman mood these days, so I haven't listened to it in years. But that doesn't make it bad)

He also made a significant impact with his arrangements of that score. I know he’s not the composer but I can still hear his “voice” in it.

Mr. Nelson also conducted the film recording of Last Tango In Paris, FWIW

Corellian2019 reacted to Richard Penna in The Official La-La Land Records Thread
Possibly the first time that not only have I never heard of either film in a flyer, I've not sure I've heard of either composer.
They're the sort of thing I'd normally expect to see from someone like Quartet, not LLL. I'm assuming that they've got lots of bigger titles waiting in various stages of development/approval hell.

Corellian2019 reacted to Edmilson in What was your first encounter with Jerry Goldsmith?
Mulan! How could I forget that! It was one of my favorite Disney VHSs when I was a kid!
And yeah, even as a 6 or 7-year-old the score really caught my attention. The themes, the action and especially the emotional parts were really great even for me as a kid.

Corellian2019 got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in What was your first encounter with Jerry Goldsmith?
Without knowing who Jerry Goldsmith was, my first encounter with his work was probably Mulan or The Mummy (and the Universal logo of course!)
Once I knew the name Goldsmith, my next encounter was Total Recall. And I've been a lifelong fan since

This guy is selling it at a reasonable price from what seems like a stockpile of extra copies. That's where I got my copy
