Indeed, it's BY FAR my favourite action cue from the score. Between Philosopher's Stone and this, I don't know what's happening. Such luck is normally reserved for Goldsmith fans.

Just saw this on FSM

There's a mini-interview with Mike G in the latest issue of Empire magazine.

He confirms his 2011 slate as SUPER 8, CARS 2 and M.I.-4

Was it already known that he was scoring Cars 2?

Yeah. We got into a debate on whether or not he's now the house Pixar composer (at the top of this page).

He's probably scoring Cars 2 because of the James Bond feel the movie seems to have based on the trailers. I guess Newman didn't want to write in a John Barry style, so they probably handed it to Giacchino, who's an expert on this matter.

Hmm... William Shatner interviews Michael Giacchino...

Haven't watched it myself, but there it is for ya.

I think it was more wishful thinking, but based on some very flimsy rumors, IIRC. I'd be surprised if it happened.

Never trust IMDB for anything that hasn't been finished and released.

Bingo and most of you should know this by now.

Cast & Crew CD'S....Love those. Just wish I could find Toy Story 3's!

It's a nice possibility, but then again Broughton would be even better.

Yeah, but keep in mind we're dealing with Marvel here. Remember what happened to John Debney this year?

Please please please please please let this happen.

I second Mark's thoughts on the Captain America developments. That would be unbelievably fantastic. I'm curious as to how they would be working together, but I'm not gonna complain if they're both on board in any capacity. Just having Broughton attached at all to a major project is quite cool.

If Giacchino will succeed in bringing Broughton to such a top-profile project, well, huge kudos to him!

Michael Giacchino fans might want to check this page out:

Propulsive Music: The Music of Peter Boyer

I cannot believe our luck here, but it contains the entire cue "Can You Shoot Me Now?" from Mission: Impossible 3.

Also, it's been a while since I listened to the Star Trek Deluxe, but what is "Spock Bans Offshore Drilling"?

"Spock Bans Offshore Drilling" sounds like an alternate to "Nero Death Experience" to me. I like it! Is it me or was the start of this tracked somewhere in the film? The dive scene perhaps?

Hopefully Giacchino will be back to score the next Star Trek film.

Posted

That's almost a given.

He needs to expand upon, and cement, what Abrams' Star Trek sounds like.

Especially that short main theme.

So that interview essentially confirms that we're getting 3 Giacchino scores in 2011: Super 8, Cars 2, and Mission Impossible 4.

So why does this website say that he is scoring two other 2011 movies: Monte Carlo and 50/50?

Yes, I know.

So he's only scoring sequels now!

Don't forget the infamous Super 0: The Beginning.

You mean you haven't seen Super 1 through 7?

I only end up on Fantastic 4, which I guess must have been something in between, but slightly better.

Well first off, that's not an official site.

the trailer of montecarlo, though, has Michael giacchino's name stamped on it.

Posted

Interesting. Why wouldn't he have mentioned it in the interview, then? Maybe it was completely written and recorded before he started working on Super 8 and Cars 2?

So we have:

June 10: Super 8

June 24: Cars 2

July 1: Monte Carlo

Sep 30: 50/50

December 13: Mission Impossible 4

That's one insane year!

And he'll follow that right up with John Carter of Mars and Star Trek (X)II in 2012... tremendous!

and he said he was tired in 2009. And he took 2010 sabbatical.

Dont get your hopes too high for any of his scores in 2013...

Well guess what? Varese just added a listing for Monte Carlo to their site - coming out June 28th!

Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

MONTE CARLO

Music Composed by

Michael Giacchino

(Up, Star Trek, The Family Stone)

A young woman, her uptight stepsister and her best friend use their savings for a long-anticipated dream trip to Paris, which turns out to be a big disappointment. When they decide to take a break from their lousy tour and duck into the lobby of a 5-star hotel, one of them is mistaken for a spoiled British heiress (Selena Gomez does double duty in both roles). Before they get the chance to reveal their true identities they are wrapped up in a whirlwind of paparazzi, private planes, couture gowns, storybook romances, and a vacation in MONTE CARLO.

Academy Award-winner Michael Giacchino (Up) composes a bright and exotic score.

20th Century Fox will open MONTE CARLO on over 3000 screens on July 1.

Varese Sarabande Catalog # 302 067 100 2
