  1. Past hour
  2. Well more to the point, Avengers (2012) was riding off a wave of highly successful movies, featuring incredibly popular, likeable, characters. And had the benefit of an excited and engaged audience who couldn't wait to see the film. That's just...not the case now.
  3. Today
  4. But ya know what? I'm OKAY with that. Johnny was doing a24 before before a24 existed tho, listen to 'Watching the Skies' on Close Encounters
  5. Maybe Eggers could convince JW to write a score similar to Images? But that's not happening. These A24 filmmakers are "too kool" to hire an old-timer like Williams. They'd rather work with DJs specialized in experimental dark ambiance who go by ShadowKitty_01 or whatever.
  6. If the next Avengers movie was planned to be about the new team assembling then yeah. Problem is they don't want to do another movie like the 2012 about a team being formed, they want Infinity War and Endgame all over again. But the heroes who are going to fight this last battle haven't been a team for years. Which is why I imagine it won't have the same impact. Sure, these are just speculations, we don't know yet anything about these new movies. But I don't think the impact will be the same.
  7. I was about to reply to this saying 'its an a24 movie' but apparently he's not releasing it through them. My comment still applies tho. Ain't nobody listening to an a24 film score front to back 🤣 that shit is always too bleak and maybe has one or two listenable cues...but those cues do hit. Looking at you 'Reborn' from Hereditary
  8. It felt like drinking a vial of antidote to the slow poison.
  9. Treasure Planet is my #1 choice and Agora also comes to mind. In that period between Munich and KOTCS where he seemed to be focusing on other matters, I would have loved to see him work with a different director than the usual suspects. I would have loved to see/hear one more collaboration between him and Robert Altman, but I'm guessing Johnny became too expensive after Jaws and Star Wars.
  10. Thanks -- that timestamped part does sound rather British but I can't place it. Hopefully someone else here knows it!
  11. The problem is, these people aren't Avengers in the sense that they are a team who have worked together for a while but rather a random collection of superheroes who have been mostly busy with their own stuff. Thor, Hulk and Hawkeye were part of the original team that assembled in 2012. Others like Falcon, War Machine and Vision joined during Age of Ultron. The other veterans (Captain Marvel, Dr Strange and Wong, Spiderman, Shuri, the Guardians) helped during the war with Thanos, but aside from those who survived the Snap (Rocket, Captain Marvel, Nebula) and thus were able to create some bonds on the five years that followed Thanos's victory, we only saw them as Avengers during the last battle. And then of course there are those who only appeared after the Infinity Wars: Shang-Chi, Monica Rambeau, Ms Marvel, Moon Knight, etc. So: with most of the original Avengers gone, we'll have an Avengers movie featuring veterans who were part of the team for a little while and newcomers who only now are revealing themselves to the superheroic community. The thing about Infinity War and Endgame was that those movies were sold as the end of the line for characters and plot points we had been watching for a decade. Now these new movies will be about superheroes who are mostly unknown to each other. So if the prospect of Shang-Chi meeting Thor is way less exciting than Captain America meeting Thor in 2012, Disney will go down hard on cameos from actors of older Marvel movies. Maguire, Garfield, Jackman, maybe Halle Berry, Reynolds, the other Fox-Men

  13. Ruined... it's maybe a bit rude! However, I struggle to get used to some expanded programs... The Cowboys (I still prefer my own shorter playlist, inspired by the old CD program) The Long Goodbye (I still prefer my own more chronological playlist)
  14. That could be it. I've never seen the film. But I'd probably still say there's too much repetition in the score.
  15. Eh, the anything answer to Shore is The Ice House, one of his greatest malventions:
  16. I wonder if I could ask the gentleman to get into the spirit of the proceedings.
  17. I would be very seriously concerned if Sam Raimi is not getting a film funded. DDDEEE - any data on this? Raimi is still considered a top talent, like Jackson. Perhaps they are no longer consistently bankeable directors but they to industry are viable assets, akin to a Spielberg (yes, nowadays).
  18. Whoa! For me it was one of the best Williams expansions of all time. The original Varese album was such a jumbled mess and also accidentally included a non-Williams cue from the TV series! The concert suite is good for a concert suite, but I really enjoy the full score. I saw and enjoyed the film too, though, so that probably helps me connect with the complete musical narrative. Yavar
  19. Very glad to hear that. Paesano's a real talent that can do anything (not in the reductive Jeff Russo way). Any interesting orchestral moments?
  20. Found this, which I didn't know existed, with Janowitz and Berry (who also featured on Karajan's recording 6 years earlier): It's not as good as Cleveland. Some of the playing is rather shoddy, and generally Szell doesn't seem to be able to keep his ensemble (instrumental & vocal) in sync.
  21. I do like what Silvestri does with Herrmann but this is, like, literally, the least required expansion of all time. There is the main theme (fantastic) and the action (very frigging Richard Band-like, now). The rest is Silvestri string sustains which are never ever good listening.
  22. Poledouris' Amerika is great as Andy pointed out above. I am very aware that BP's reputation was as a hard hitting action composer but there are so many testimonies out there from those who knew him, including Lennertz, that he was primarily an emotionalist. This is where cues like the following totally highlight Andy's point about BP's duality (or in fact, singularity):
  23. No Ant-Man @Jay? Also, Hulk did get his own solo MCU movie... just with a different actor in the role. But it's recognized as canon and other characters/actors from it have appeared in later MCU things. Yavar
