  1. Topic title edited for general mental and physical well being of JWFan (the original gave me a near heart attack when I first read it).

  3. Well, I thought it was pretty rubbish. Really disappointed to be honest.Half the time I couldn't even see what was going on due to the copy being so dark, and I don't what the guy doing the filming was doing but the camera just wouldn't stop friggin' shaking, probably in the bag he was hiding it in. Movie is all hype.

  4. "Dear most loyal Fans. I speak to you now like 'Father and Son'. Know well that I was 'Over the moon' to receive news of an outpouring of concern about my well being at my favourite website, my daily dose of myself - my refuge from the darkness of this world . However, I must put minds at rest and state unequivocally that it truly is a 'False Alarm'. It was a story that initially came to my attention while on a 'Flight from Peru' and although it may shock some to hear this, it amused me greatly (while understanding the distress and alarm it caused you all). If I could 'Turn back the world' and ease all your fluttering hearts, I would do so. Do keep in mind that it is not the first time this has happened, nor will it be the last, as such 'High Wire Stunts' are not unusual on this marvellous but troubled medium. Console yourself that in my 'Quiet moments' you (all of you) are in my thoughts and dreams " Yours with Celery, ~ John T Williams.

  5. The Pit and the Pendulum is my favourite of the Corman/Poe films. Good score by Les Baxter, too. Another one: Candyman.

  12. That is just one of my many epithets. Grey Hame, The One True John Williams Believer, Keeper of the Faith, Storm Crow... This is what an old sage and scald sang of these movie adaptations in the time of BloodBoal the Young when the world was still green and good during our ancestors' day. Where now the director and the script writers? Where is the inspiration that was in LotR showing? Where is the sense and moderation and the story easily flowing? Where is the hand on the key pad, and the Tolkien's spirit glowing? Where is the faithful adaptation of the novel and the ideas from the original story growing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow; The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow. Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning? Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?

  13. I changed the title again. Does that seem safe to you now? In every possible viewing mode it is presented on the MB? Should there be stronger claims of the thing just being a false rumour and a hoax?

  14. Wow, can someone please change the topic title to indicate this is a hoax right away and prevent heart attacks. Not cool!

  15. Thorin's theme is probably my favourite of all the AUJ themes, especially when in Bm (i.e. An Ancient Enemy). When I first heard that, it raised the hairs on the back of my neck.

  16. I think you can apply that to women who have flourishing careers as film editors (like Thelma Schoonmaker, Dede Allen, Tatiana S. Riegel, Anne V. Coates, Verna Fields, Carol Littleton, et al). Hollywood didn't want women directing films back in the 1930s, but they were okay with them working behind-the-scenes. Some of them started working as apprentice editors, and broke into feature film editing. And that paved the way for the more famous ones like Schoonmaker to get noticed and inspire other women to follow a similar career. The entertainment industry is such a weird, sexist and inconsistent place.

  17. FotR has better storytelling and better development of themes than AUJ. Also FotR is much more diverse in the musical colours of its palette. It's more nuanced as a whole, with more intelligent subtleties in the music, and the music for the different locations are more easily distinctive, and the emotional material is far more substantial (ex. the choral material for Boromir, the operatic solos, etc). Finally, FotR has better themes/motifs as a whole. It's as the Messenger said:

  19. Here are a few female composers whose music you should already have in your collection as JW Fans: Germaine Tailleferre (one of the members of Les Six) - Her Harp Concertino is available on the CD 20th Centurty Concerti which also includes the JW Tuba Concerto performed by Marc Easener Jennifer Higdon (Pulitzer Prize winner for music in 2010) - Her composition "Blue Cathedral" is available on the CD New Music from Bowling Green, Volume 3 which also includes the JW Tuba Concerto performed by Velvet Brown I think their music is quite lovely, and certainly worth a listen.

  20. It took me almost two years to get this out of my head an into my computer, but I've finally managed to assemble a little concert arrangement based on Tintin's theme: http://soundcloud.com/chrisafonso/tintins-theme-arrangement It mostly consists of Williams' original theme and secondary "sneaking" theme, which I extended a bit. And to make King Mark happy, I applied a bit of a Raiders March feel to the beginning. It's relatively short, unlike the more fleshed out suites Homeboy and especially Skystalker already created, but I hope it's enjoyable nonetheless

  21. Some great works pointed out here. But I'm surprised no Mahler got mentioned. That finale is heavenly...
