    GAME OF THRONES

  2. Thing is though, that track with the INCEPTION horn blasts ('Boat Trip to New Orleans') is probably the only interesting cue in the score. Everything else is just dull ambience and repackaging of Journey to the Line/Time.

  3. 12 Years A Slave Not something I'll probably watch again, but it was a well made story. It's just a depressing one, you basically watch a man get kidnapped, sold into slavery, then have one horrible thing after another happen to him for 12 years. Actually the 12 years part is odd, because there is no sense of how much time has passed in the film at all, he looks the same at the beginning as he does at the end. It's a sad story, and one that deserved to be told, and the cast and directing were all excellent. It's just... eh, now that I've seen it, not much to say about it. Nothing that stayed in my brain really. Fassbender played a real asshole in this. Brad Pitt has two scenes that seem horribly out of place, stuff that can only be written in the modern day. The ending was big let down too. Just not pulled off well. The score by Zimmer was atrocious. Completely inappropriate for the film. it's set in the 1850s and has loud Inception BWAAAAAMs all over the place. The source music was all better than the score.

  6. Depends who the other person is. I tend to be one who sticks up for others, not in a patronizing sense, just helping out the underdog. I've always identified with Thomas Hardy's Jude Fawley. I'll have to agree to disagree with you and Alex on this one. I'm not asking for Sesame Street, just something a bit more self-aware. In that sense (although it's the weaker film), I prefer Frankenheimer's sequel. It places Doyle in a situation where his prejudices are confronted head-on. The delirium/confession scenes are some of the finest from Hackman's career. Should've been nominated for an Oscar.

  7. I've considered Insurrection to be in a slightly alternate timeline (differences in the bridge too) or just plain sloppy writing. Obviously the writers forgot that Troi kissed Riker in the TV series. Or they forgot to remove the line: apparently Troi was to be bearded but Marina Sirtis objected to it so they removed the beard but forgot to alter the line accordingly. Okay, that aside, I saw the film last night and it definitely stands a lot better than X-Men: The Last Stand. Consider this film a semi-reboot.

  9. Finally bought this, after reading that it'll be out of print soon: Includes a bound print of Paul Schrader's original screenplay and a poster. "That eerie sensation that you've seen a stranger before. Everyone's experienced it. Call it déjà vu... this man calls it terror."

That's a tempting purchase. I know it's on Netflix but the price is very right.

  12. KK. is definitely someone I can work with. His views and tastes... make sense. I don't ever find him... inexplicable.

  13. KK's ultimate judgement will come when it is revealed which, if any, of the "Composer's Competition" entries were his.
