It's more than enough for me that JW is the most nominated person to ever work in Hollywood and will probably remain so forever.

Before anyone "well actually's" me, I do not personally count Walt Disney.  The man was a visionary and all that, but it's obviously dumb that he gets nominated for all those shorts where he was just the studio executive and not directly involved in their creation.

Disney is the most nominated with a big asterisk, Williams is the most nominated, period

All this pearl-clutching about the amount of original score is absurd. It’s x minutes more original score in the JW canon than we have right now, and we know every minute of it is going to be quality. Surely that should be enough to satisfy us.

Thor’s revelatory new podcast on JW’s TV work makes me yearn for a premium anthology of his formative television scoring years to appear someday. But the licensing and rights would surely be a nightmare, and that’s assuming the original elements are even available.

When I was a kid, it took me a long time to understand that there was a "link" between Star Wars, E.T., Indiana Jones, Superman... In fact, I decided to build seriously a CD collection of John Williams after the release of Jurassic Park and Schindler's List, as I realized... ok that guy wrote the soundtrack of my life, I have to send him all my money from this moment on.

Then, many years later, I discovered this forum.

Since, I have no money left in my pockets.

    Thanks!

Same here, more or less. And I suppose my age comes into play here once again (I'm soon 45 and could be the father of 90% of JWFAN, I think ;)). In the early 90s I was discovering film music all on my own - as a natural progression from first loving electronic music and prog rock. There was no internet then. There was no one, neither family nor friends, who shared my interest. In fact, I was convinced I was the only person in Norway interested in this weird music form. Internet, and a subscription to the FSM magazine in '95, opened up my eyes to other people out there, who shared my passion. But before that, there were some 5 years with lots of "solitude".

But I suppose on an unconscious level, my father might have had some form of influence. He played a lot of classical music when I was a kid. I hated it for a long time, but then started to appreciate orchestral music through the prism of film music, symphonic rock etc. I think that's about as close as I can get.

However, the discovery of John Williams, in particular, is all me. No one else.

Bayesian reacted to GerateWohl in Here is what other composers are saying about John Williams
I think, it is more a question, why contemporary composer 's music for the concert hall, including Williams' don't contain humable tunes anymore. Beethoven has it often, Brahms has it sometimes. Tchaikovsky.
But since the 20th century it is just the question of tonal or atonal. Humable tunes are for pop music.
There are a few exceptions of course. But at least in the 20th century film music preserved in a way the tradition of usage of "hit tunes" in orchestral music.
Classic fans are humming Beethoven's ode to joy, Ravel's Bolero and Verdi's triumph march from Aida. Try that with any concert work from the past 60 years.

This has taken me a whole year to prepare and produce, decades if you count the research and accumulation of material. But I thought it was the appropriate time to create now, as a tribute to my favourite film composer in his 90th birthday year.

A complete walkthrough of all of his television music (with the available material and data that we currently have), presented as a podcast series over multiple parts. I hope you tune in and follow it. I will start working on Part 2 soon.

I would love to see JW become a Chevalier or Officier of the Legion d'honneur. He wouldn't even have to travel for it; I believe the French consul general in L.A. could bestow it. It's worth noting that France (rightfully) saw fit to award Spielberg in this manner back in 2004.
