one thing TLJ has that I've missed in recent Star Wars scores is that wonderful musical dissonance!

there were great eerie moments like that in ESB and it really set apart Williams writing from anything else, and TLJ has seen a return to that creative kind of underscore particularly in the aforementioned nightmare-like part in 'Old Friends' at 2:43.

That is pretty much what it reminds me of. There are some real cliches of library media music in this. I'm always down to hear a more fully developed piece of course, but I can't compare this to "Adventures of Han." That is so much more quintessentially Williams as one-off Star Wars exercises go. 
 
But I appreciate these random pieces. It's like getting a phone call from my grandpa or something. 

I wish they had given us the chance to debate whether this was written by Williams for 20 pages.

Awwww yeah! Nice to see Capaldi getting some love. 12 was a breath of fresh air for the series to me. His performance bridged the gap for me between the Classic and NuWho Doctors. The right balance.

From reading this thread, sounds like we need a "Doctor Who Disenchantment" thread.

Agreed. Like you said I'm sure it's not her fault, but Jodie just isn't the Doctor. She backs down when threatened, keeps apologising for everything and yeah has no presence whatsoever, which is just fundamentally not the character of the Doctor. The stories are also dull and they definitely have a villain problem (i.e. they're all either terrible or just plain boring). My plan is to try and get through the rest of series 11, but if there's no major improvement by the finale - I'm out.
 
Time to rewatch Tennant's era and reminisce about the good old days.

This series is just so painful to sit through.  I'm sure Jodie Whitaker is a fine actress, but she does not fit at all.  It could be that the writing is just that horrible and she's doing the best she can with what she has.  There's just no presence there to the character.  All that she is doing is providing exposition, throwing her hands around and that's about it.
 
My son and I struggled to get around to watching the last episode for a few days and watched a few episodes of DS9 first until we got around to it.  It's like we are watching it out of obligation at this point.

Yes and as others have said I think it would obviously apply to his film work only unless there is some physical impediment to his continuing at all.  For any concerned or saddened at the idea I have lately discovered the profound importance in valuing the simple existence of a thing rather than its permanence or impermanence.   A simple lesson but one which many of us still need to learn the hard way it seems.

I can definitely see that. I personally wouldn't mind seeing him as a mercenary who presents the first bit of cynicism to Luke about his Jedi plans that would later dominate him: "You really don't think this'll work, do you?" The two would have a weird, gruff kind of friendship, even as Luke's morale decays, descending more into Kyle's life state as a rough, jaded Force-using gun for hire. A kind of commiserating sympathy for a buddy on the other side of the tracks.

I'm hoping that Williams writes at least three new concert arrangements for the new themes/material.  If the new themes/material are on par with the quality and quantity of the new themes in TFA, then I will be a mostly happy camper.

Every cue must have the Force Theme. Then, at the very end, a huge climactic resolution with the theme, before launching into the end credits. I think Williams will have to eschew the new themes off into a separate suite because I'm certain the end credits will compromise of a new 25 minute Force Theme arrangement, the concert suite 42 years in the making...

I would love to have an expanded new march development for Kylo Ren's theme in the final film as he is now the main villain and in control of the New Order. We got a small glimpse of that at the end of TLJ but Williams should do a full blown version for Episode IX.

Fucking hell, can JW please keep going and revisit all his former concert suites and revise them? 
 
Han Solo and the Princess, I Am The Pan, now this. It's just endlessly fascinating hearing Williams revisit older works with modern sensibilities. And, interestingly, very rarely do these revisions not add a layer of sadness and melancholy to proceedings.
 
How I'd love to hear a revised Dracula suite written by Williams now. It would be fascinating!

Listening to it more, the new darkness JW expresses in this arrangement reminds me of the new version of Han and Leia's theme. It sounds like JW stripped away all the sweeping romance of the original Love Theme and replaces it with more conflict and tragedy.
