Ollie got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in Robert Townson leaving Varese Sarabande (final Club Batch coming March 2019)
Yay! My package has finally made it to the next post office hub.
It had been 2 weeks of silence. I may get lucky and have it by Tuesday. Given how Naxos has shipped other people’s orders, I’m curious to see the condition of my order after 2 weeks of being lost.

Ehh it had a massive marketing campaign (all that Size Does Matter stuff) but its reception upon release was lukewarm at best. Really, $130+million wasn't all that impressive even in 1998.

You mean Godzilla will awkwardly stalk the other monsters and stand outside their house?

All those things I can do. All those powers I have, and I couldn't even provide a link.

Ollie got a reaction from The Illustrious Jerry in Star Wars IX The Rise of Skywalker (JJ Abrams 2019)
The single character images are real because those are the same costumes they are in wearing in the wrap photo JJ Abrams posted.
The posters are probably real too but not the final artwork, we’ll find out soon. Star Wars Celebration is in a few weeks. I imagine a trailer will be forthcoming at that time.

He said that, and then he later started soliciting interest for a very limited volume 2 which would cover the remainder of the series

You're never going to touch that.

Ollie reacted to John in Favorite movie to feature Bryce Dallas Howard?
Out of the choices given I like Jurassic World the most. I know some here hate it and its score but I find it a very enjoyable popcorn movie. BDH is fine in it.

Ollie got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in The Official Intrada Thread
I love Poltergeist II’s score because it goes in a completely opposite direction.
The use of the hymn is very creepy and chilling at times.

Ollie reacted to Yavar Moradi in The Official Intrada Thread
The biggest problem with Conan the Destroyer is how much Basil had to straight re-purpose from his first score due the the insane lack of time he had to work on it. That's why my preferred Conan sequel score is the short one he wrote for The Adventures of Conan: Sword and Sorcery Spectacular which had all new material in the same vein.
Destroyer has some fantastic highlights like the Hall of Mirrors sequence, which was so good Tadlow even included it as a bonus on their original Conan the Barbarian recording, before they knew whether or not they would tackle Destroyer (and I do also really like the new main theme...sounds almost like a western!)
That said, I will almost certainly buy Intrada's expansion of Conan the Destroyer (obviously will, if it includes the original recording of Sword and Sorcery Spectacular as a bonus like the Tadlow did). Why, Brundlefly? Because, despite all its faults, it's the version conducted by the composer himself, and Basil is one of my favorites. Also, Mike Mattesino was able to use alternate takes and modern tech to work *wonders* with the mess of recording sessions (with two different orchestras in two different recording spaces) for Superman IV. Everyone used to talk about how poor the performance was on that but he used patching and careful reconstruction to make it really sound good, and now I enjoy that complete score as a listen even more than the original.
Poltergeist II is a step down from the original, for me, but I appreciated it more after the great sounding Kritzerland release, and I respect it for *not* re-treading the same ground as its predecessor. It's kinda akin to Damien: Omen II (though I like that score more) -- leaner and meaner than the original, if not quite as viscerally affecting.

Ollie reacted to Unlucky Bastard in What happened to the sound on the 1997 SW 2-CD sets, and how did it happen?
I have my doubts MM will be allowed anywhere near SW or Indy. Disney/LFL are probably aware of his relationship with Williams' people, so they're waiting for him to die, at which time they'll suddenly yank it away from MM and hand the project over to someone else in their own internal hierarchy who's probably already been selected. Someone who'll just brickwall the whole thing and make every fuck up King Mark ever feared.

Ollie reacted to Marian Schedenig in The Mummy vs The Wind and the Lion vs The Ghost and the Darkness
The Wind and the Lion is undoubtedly a Goldsmith classic, but The Mummy ranks highly among my favourites because it combines sheer fun and spectacle, some of Goldsmith's most gripping rhythmic writing, and pure elegance (The Caravan). I like bits from The Ghost and the Darkness quite a bit, but even the original album was a bit uneven in memorability to me, and I don't yet hear much added value in the expansion.
And I've never really understood the popularity of King Solomon's Mines either.
