leeallen01 2,136
I think perhaps the biggest contrast concerning a film and it's score is Airbender. Universally hated film with a universally loved score. Pure adventure. You can hear the separation of the elements throughout the score. He uses Woodwind for Air, Percussion for Earth, Brass for Fire, and he uses String ostinatos and crescendos for Water. Koray Savas

leeallen01 2,136
Thanks a lot for the link. My tickets are booked. The Royal Albert Hall is my favourite building in the world. I've been to countless concerts there and it never fails to take my breath away every time I walk inside the Hall. So excited to hear JNH's music performed in there. leeallen01 2,136
A U.S. tour is risky. Maybe one show in New York and L.A might work. But Europe is the hub of film music fans. We have countless film music festivals here, and Yes the U.S. is full of fans, but a tour across several states wouldn't work as well as in Europe. I doubt a random JNH concert in a concert hall in say... St. Louis, Missouri would sell out. So a tour would be a risk. When I went to JNH's concert in Dallas, Texas, they just about filled the concert hall, with a surprising amount of empty seats. Yet both concerts of JNH in Europe crashed the internet as they sold out. Every film music concert I've been to in Europe has sold out and has been a hive of activity and fans travelling all across Europe to attend. I regularly meet up with a group of multi-lingual friends, sometimes groups of 30 meet up to socialise from all across the continent. Even Brian Tyler, who isn't exactly known much at all, even in the film score fan community, had a huge turn out for his London concert.

leeallen01 2,136
A couple of nice little interviews I missed from BMI Awards back in May, where JNH talks about Fantastic Beasts. At 2:30 he talks about whether or not he's going to use Williams' themes. It sounds like we're getting all new stuff and not many references to Potter musically at all, which is great. And another little one where he mentions Fantastic Beasts too, more about the back and forth with Yates and that he recorded it in August. leeallen01 2,136
Yeah it sounds like he had a good 3 solid months of writing and then recorded it in August. I also like the part of the interview where he says people still give him crap about whether he scored Kong in only 5 weeks. I guess even within the film score world, it's hard to believe someone could write 3 hours of brilliant music in a month.

leeallen01 2,136
JNH doesn't really like stepping into a franchise and using someone elses music. Which is why I think he wouldn't ever do a Star Wars film because of the absolute commitment to using a lot of someone else's music. He says immediately that the idea is to create a whole new musical world for Fantastic Beasts, which is encouraging. I think JNH will push for just a couple of tiny hedwig theme references, and no more. Thankfully there is no other theme even close to being in the public knowledge from Potter, so they will only use Hedwigs and that's it. I also hope that also his wish to create a whole new musical world, indicates that he'll do all 3 films in the Fantastic Beasts trilogy. I've always wanted a trilogy from Howard, and when we finally got one out of The Hunger Games, it didn't turn out so well (in my opinion). If only Shyamalan got to finish his crappy Last Airbender trilogy, we'd have gotten more amazIng music!

Pieter Boelen 740
James Newton Howard getting rejected would be quite sad indeed. There is another risk though: Will Yates let him actually write something awesome?
mrbellamy 6,287
Sure he will. David Yates gets demonized too broadly on these forums. There were definitely times where he seemed a little too stubborn against a musical approach, but on the other hand all four of his Potters had plenty of opportunities where a big thematic statement or colorful orchestration was encouraged, whether or not the composers fully delivered. I'm certain we will definitely get JNH versions of cues like these: Will and Pieter Boelen
Popular Post leeallen01 2,136
JNH is Scoring the new Jumanji film. He's likely doing it because Lawrence Kasdan's son is directing. The film is likely going to be trash, but JNH is a great choice, and he excels at adventure, so maybe he can be inspired enough to give us something fun. http://filmmusicreporter.com/2016/10/06/james-newton-howard-to-score-jake-kasdans-jumanji-sequel/ Jonesy, Pieter Boelen and Muad'Dib

leeallen01 2,136
I very much doubt JNH will include any Horner.
