Luke Skywalker 1,795
It is a worthy equal to its sister scores, and its only fault is that the movie was released 19 years after the last one, so the cut and paste job of familiar themes and renditions of the march was obligatory (more than in TOD and LC where only the march was needed - but hey remember basket chase and ark theme ), much like in the visuals they have to mimick some scenes or bring cameos. That's because people want to see that at the cinema and not be alienated (no pun intended...)(almost?) Every sequel released more than 10 years after the last film does this musically. And remember 'flight FROM peru' was used for a flight TO peru. So its fitting, specially since it is a map-travel scene.

Wycket 36
Saw this movie last night at midnight and absolutely loved it. Not being a huge fan of Whedon, I never though his television sensibilities could handle such a big movie with the scale it would have but I was entirely wrong. The action scenes were all very well done and whoever edited the final battle deserves an award just for keeping track of everything going on, let alone making it one of my favorite action sequences in quite some time. The humor that is typical of Whedon was well placed and never felt out of character nor did it ever feel forced. It was also nice to see cameos from a few people that Whedon's worked with in the past.Basically, it was like the perfect summer blockbuster. Their was really only 5 action sequences, all of them well done and felt like comic book panels coming to life, but without that terrible CGI look that happened so much in Spider-Man 3. Yes its 2.5 hours, but honestly I wish that the extra half hour of scenes cut were left back in as I didn't want the movie to end. And for those seeing it in the U.S., make sure to stay to the very end. The extra scene is definitely worth it.

Wojo 2,453
Ok, I just watched Iron Man 2. It had me going until Tony Stark created "a new element" in all of three minutes using a giant laser beam to imbue a blue triangle with power.I have seen dead fish give better performances than Scarlett Johannsen in this film. Fortunately as deadpan as her voice is, it's in an alto that I find sexy. And she's hot as hell. That saves it.Best part was when all the drones flew by and activated the car alarms. Yeah, so Hulk fighting a bunch of mutant dogs isn't exactly a great set piece, but the movie is edited very uniquely and Bana does a great job. Pretty decent story. The whole thing is certainly much better than the second attempt Incredible Hulk.Iron Man was great, I thought, as well as X2 and Spider-man 2.Most of them are pretty cookie-cutter, but a few stand out a little more than the others. JoeinAR 1,949
I do agree with Merkel, I found the movie very derivative. I am not a fan, or a non-fan of the director so I don't know of any Whedon-isms.I liked Thor, I liked the Hulk, I liked them all. I even thought Scarlet Johansson was really good. One of the MAJOR PROBLEM of the film is the many perils they put the major characters in. Does anyone think Thor, Captain America, or Iron Man are in true peril???? Not with sequels already announced. Yet the film builds part of the drama around whether the characters might meet an untimely end. Loki was fun a meglomaniac but as a truly dangerous villain he lacked something. If I were to rank this among the comic book films this one rates nowhere near the top. Yet the film builds part of the drama around whether the characters might meet and untimely end.Couldn't one say that is true of installments in the James Bond franchise? I don't know about the early movies when the series was finding its way, but haven't we reached the point where it's a gimme that Mister Bond will not die? The same idea also unfortunately robs megafranchise superhero movies of all tension.
JoeinAR 1,949
yes that is true but Bond can at least be injured, the Hulk cannot die, and thor is virtually invulnerable, though not Superman invulnerable. I wanted to like this movie so much more than I did. The endless hordes of whatever those things were did not impress. The score was nothing impressive but we'd already determined that. There is nothing magical in this movie. Everything is just flat. There are many very good moments but they do not make the film better as a whole. The editing is weak. It should have been 20, 30 minutes shorter. The set up is too long. The giant carrier is ridiculous. The bits that feel wasted are the short cameo's. I love Harry Dean Stanton and he enhances everything he does yet his scene was kind of a throw away. So many of the one liners are just that one liners, they do not flow. They are not natural. Worst of all they are not memorable. Thankfully we did not choose to waste any extra money on 3D. It is clear from the 2D version there is no reason for it. The destruction of New York was yawn, been there done that and did it better in numerous films. I don't plan on buying this on blu unless Dave wants it. I think Spiderman and the Bat look more better.
Matt C 455
Saw this last night. I knew it was going to be good going in, but I was honestly blown away. Several laugh-out-loud moments, tight pacing, and there's something magical and tangible that Whedon brings to the movie. It's not just his signature dialogue, but the way he corrals the actors and gives EVERYONE a chance to shine. He and Marvel Studios have raised the superhero genre to an unprecedented level... they give the audience what they want without sacrificing plot or focus.Honestly, they should go straight for The Avengers 2. The next 3-4 Marvel Studios sequels leading into the second film almost certainly won't be as good. But Silvestri's score works gangbusters in the film, and I originally didn't care much of it. The theme isn't classic Silvestri, but it is catchy and Silvestri wisely uses it often. I'll definitely be ordering Intrada/Disney's score album in the coming weeks. And if your theater only has the 3D show, it's worth shelling out the extra money. It feels like native 3D, with some appreciable depth to the quieter scenes and the Battle Royale finale in NYC is wonderfully rendered.

I thought the first Iron Man was fairly enjoyable, all the movies that followed were totally pedestrian.Data has a lot of things that "rubs him the wrong way", you have a lot of things that you find to be pedestrian, I noticed...Honestly, I am unable to find the appeal of Gia's music. It just sounds pedestrian and predictable to my untrained earsIt sounds better when the melody's resolution is played on the woodwinds, instead of the strings like in that clip. Still, good stuff. Too bad it is followed by the Fellowship theme, and theme I find utterly pedestrianSeven Years in TibetThe score is a masterwork. The movie is very pedestrian.1492 is totally pedestrian, the artistry of the director behind the camera is invisible, like the director had absolutely nothing to say, no passion whatsoever. It sounds totally pedestrian indeed.Saw it tonight, and I thought it was a very enjoyable movie with an inspired cast, making the most out of rather pedestrian plot. The movie is so pedestrian I can imagine myself playing Carmageddon with it
