OK, looking on this page http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/title/10766/Becket it seems the CD fits the description posted on the Amazon page you linked to (10 tracks and a running time of 40 minutes). Plus the product is sold by Amazon itself, so I think you can buy it safely, without fearing that it'll be a bootleg version or some shit like that. I'm gonna buy it since the price is very reasonable, but this doesn't inspire confidence: Quote When sold by Amazon.com, this product is manufactured on demand using CD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply. But at least I can return it, if it's awful.

I'm doomed! Well that is the biggest problem with Thor's arguments - he basically says that every single time, the original album that came out around the time is preffered, and the later C&C expansion is never welcome (yes, I know he's made a very small amount of exceptions). But it's just illogical because guess what? Not every abridged and arranged album is going to be perfect. Sometimes there is a crazy time crunch and they just don't have time to think about proper album arranging. Sometimes the album must be finalized before they've even finished recording the score. Sometimes the composer has some wacky idea about what to include and it ends up being a bad idea. In brief, sometimes the album just doesn't have the right highlights or rearranges things into too weird of an order. The fact is there are great abridged and arranged albums and bad ones, just like their are great C&C releases and bad ones. No single composer has knocked it out of the park every time with every album. That would be one amazing streak!
Bespin 8,499
I remember Mike Matessino says in a recent interview that John Williams still makes LP programs in his head... Yes, sometimes it shows! I'm not afraid to say it, I never liked The Lost world OST CD... and now, I love the Expanded Release. This must means something. And I think it's the same with the Prequels. I mean, John Williams is so meticulous about his themes and their development in a score... why neutralize that with a shambolic track list order? The "sold by Amazon itself" thing is because it's often cheaper for a label (particularly the more unscrupulous ones, but it happens with some major soundtracks as well, like Elfman's Girl on the Train) to use Amazon's CreateSpace CD-R service instead of actually pressing albums when it comes to low-volume releases. That for me is the weirdest part of some of Williams' OST album choices. He often very carefully has his themes "start small and end big" through out the course of a film score, but then goes ahead and undoes that development in an OST album by putting a huge sweeping theme as track 2 or 3, etc. It's not necessary bad if he has an end credits track open things (like Minority Report or Raiders of the Lost Ark) because it acts as a kind of "overture", but undoing the development within the score cues never really works out well IMO. crocodile 8,041
I'm not sure whether it's that good. Williams has such a big repertoire of big works. Incanus 5,723
The Eiger Sanction by John Williams: While this undoubtedly shows its age with its 1970's pop and jazz influences it is still a heck of an entertaining album with its various eclectic stylistic choices as Williams in a bit The Long Goodbye spirit provides numerous versions of the main theme in variety of styles from Bossa Nova to light jazz and composes Baroque influenced training montage guitar theme for Training with George and George Sets the Pace. As this is a 1970's thriller there is also some sparse and often harsh suspense writing (Up the Drainpipe and The Microfilm Killing) with similar stylings as the concurrent Jaws and the later Family Plot and even Black Sunday but the composer also finds a few moments to unleash some orchestral grandeur like the classically tinged adagio in The Icy Ascent or the noble horn led The Eiger and The Top of the World. At 35 minutes this is a breezy listen and nicely showcases Williams' versatile skill in navigating a highly eclectic scoring assignment. publicist and Naïve Old Fart
Naïve Old Fart 9,664
KING KONG. Hot damn, but this is a good score! I don't own the complete score, so I had to slum it, with the FSM (oh, the humanity! ). No matter. If TLD is my fave JB score, and OHMSS, and TLIW are 2, and 3, then KING KONG is definitely 4th. From the foreboding opening, with its almost ecclesiastical organ, via a lovely, but not sugary, love theme ( I can't even imagine what Andy Williams would later do to it), to the tragic THE END, this is grade-A Barry! It was so good, in fact, that after it had finished, I put it on again, and I played it a second time. It really is that damn good! After watching the movie for, I think, the 10th time last night, I had to listen to the OST before bed. It's wonderful, certainly his finest "Americana" score IMO.
