Bond is a character written in a different era, in a different generation. The world has changed since then. Bond today is more tolerated than encouraged. Bond could not have been created from scratch today. He is able to exist because he has the excuse of being from another era. Otherwise he could not be created today. He's a very tricky character to make a film out of. Bless them for trying even.

Gruesome Son of a Bitch 6,488
The appeal of Bond is that he rides that line between good guy and bad guy. He's an antihero. Straight-laced heroes are too boring anyway. It's more attractive to be a womanizing hard-drinking assassin/spy. He's so fucken cool. TheUlyssesian 2,478
Bond the character does not work as a younger man. I'd have difficulty buying bond as a character if he were say younger than 38. He's best in his early 40's I'd say.

Definitely feels like we're going through the same rigmarole, perching these films on a precariously high pedestal for absolutely no reason. I finally got around to seeing Spectre and found it to be a skeleton of a film, a paper thin plot with a few good action scenes. Yet, because it's James Bond it has an image of austerity attached to it since Casino Royale that can't be washed away. I've never seen these movies as chores to watch, but it feels like we should be more wary of these films when they're riding on the name, nostalgia and gimmickry that is wearing thin. Gruesome Son of a Bitch 6,488
I thought Spectra was weak, but in my opinion, this series has been consistently delivering entertaining flicks, even the incredibly over-bashed underrated Quantum of Solace. Arpy 4,145
I liked Quantum of Solace, and it's crazy to think now how maligned it is considering when it came out it was praised by Bond fans and general moviegoers, and at least several people who weren't Bond-heads. 42 minutes ago, Gruesome Son of a Bitch said: I thought Spectra was weak, but in my opinion, this series has been consistently delivering entertaining flicks, even the incredibly over-bashed underrated Quantum of Solace. Gruesome Son of a Bitch 6,488
There was some guy who argued that QOS has the most accurate Bond to the Fleming novels. However, this argument is a staple of 007 internet comments and literally every version is praised by someone for being the truest to Fleming's novels.. Richard Penna 3,696
I liked Casino Royale and Skyfall, both of them having good villains and good plots (even if Skyfall's falls apart very quickly). Spectre was ok, but its attempt to tie together the Craig era didn't work for me, and Waltz didn't get much to do. QoS is one of the worst films I've ever seen. Having seen the entire film once and watched the first half hour or so several further times, I still can't tell you what the plot is. The fact that it was made during the writers' strike is obvious and a huge mistake by the producers.

Naïve Old Fart 9,556
On the subject of QOS: it seems to have an "unfinished" (not to mentioned "rushed") quality. I know that the production was fraught, due to strike action, but were there any scenes written, but not filmed? 100 minutes (not including credits) is a laughable amount of time, for a Bond film. Naïve Old Fart 9,556
"Adjust"?! No criticism of you, Steef, but...what on earth does that mean? A script's a script, isn't it?
