Sandor got a reaction from Arnaud2 in Celebrating 30 years of being a John Williams fan and collector
In a couple of months, I'll be celebrating my '30th anniversary' of being a John Williams fan and collector.

Growing up with films like Star Wars, Indiana Jones and E.T., I've been intrigued by Williams' music since childhood, but it was during the Spring of 1993 that I became a true and devoted fan.

My life was very different 30 years ago. I was still living with my parents, attended the final year of high school, had hair on my head and I had no idea how my life was going to turn out.

I look back on 30 years filled with significant events, ranging from wonderful to not so great. I became a teacher and headmaster, got married to a beautiful wife, bought a house, lost my stepfather and grandparents, traveled the world, became father to an autistic son and successfully overcame an episode of depression.

The music of John Williams has been an integral part of my personal journey and has always had a positive effect on me.

Today I had some photos taken of my entire collection, something I've been wanting to do for years. I hope you will enjoy them and here's to the next 30 years!

Sandor got a reaction from Fabulin in The Most Meh/Average Film that JW Turns Into a Blockbuster/Classic With His Music Alone?
Although I enjoy the topic, I honestly don't think any film was a blockbuster or classic just because of John Williams' score.

    My god.

Have you ever listened to a piece of music where it makes you feel as if, for just a moment, all the universes answers are within reach and the meaning of life itself is about it be revealed to you? But then the moment ends and it all slips away?

I’m not a spiritual man. I’m not religious. But when I listen to JW’s Hook score, specifically “Farewell Neverland” when the hauntingly beautiful choral 2:19 come in? It’s as if I can step outside of myself and see the big picture. It’s hard to describe.

What a piece of music! It makes my soul ache, makes me yearn for memories long gone. I can feel it in every fibre of my being. This isn’t simply “music”. No. It’s so much more. It’s memory, nostalgia, love, hurt and sorrow all distilled in one profoundly ethereal piece. It’s the human soul given music form.

I feel like the kid from “American Beauty” who watches a bag blow in the wind & sees all the beauty of the world represented in that single moment.

I'm busy assembling a CD of the best and most memorable songs by John Williams. I've already made a cover! Which songs do you feel should be on this? And did I forget any 'big name' artists that performed or recorded a John Williams song?

I hope so, rather than think so. Any opportunity for more Williams music is a "yes, please"-scenario in my book. As long as the schedule doesn't clash with a Spielberg-film, in which case I'd probably prefer he did that instead.

Now that we finally have the songs from Hook, I think Believe -even in its raw form- should make the cut, possibly replacing When You’re Alone.

That Reivers recording is terrific. This and the Jane Eyre recording were the first pieces of music I ever heard from these two scores, from an old Readers Digest LP set a friend's sister had.

Honestly, the songs -even if they're just demo-versions- sound much more accomplished than Thomas And The King, the only real comparable work in Williams' discography.

It only makes me wonder how powerful Believe, Childhood or Mothers would have eventually become had the production steered towards the original planned musical idea.

My copy finally arrived to Finland today. Of course I had to pay extra 10 € for VAT and postal service fee. One of the most expensive regular OST albums I ever bought for certain. Hopefully I'll see my CD delivered next week.

Once again it didn't feel real until I actually saw and held it as a three dimensional object. So much work went into this with so many people involved. It's taken years but here it is!

I can't emphasize strongly enough that listeners should enjoy the crafted album experience of Disc 3 as we've presented it. I'm so thrilled this can finally be shared.

Although the musical is far from being a favorite of mine, I’d say The Question (and its Reprise), Am I Beautiful, Improbable As Spring, Replay The Game and So Many Other Worlds are the highlights.

Sadly, the cast recording just isn’t very good as the vocal performances -though technically fine- reach several levels of pure and utter annoyance.

I would really like the hear the aforementioned songs performed by a different cast. It might change my opinion of Williams’ work.
