Ludwig will most likely smile politely and think "I can't hear this dude."

He'll probably tell it to Beethoven and Mozart too, when he meets them in the afterlife. They'll just smile politely and probably think "cute story".

Haven't heard this one in a while.  Deeply beautiful.  Will have to listen a few more times to be sure, but, as of right now, I think it is one of the best things John has written.

Really well done!  Fits the pictures very well and flows together quite nicely indeed.

He only orchestrates when Daisy Ridley's watching. He likes to try and impress her.

I don't waste time on hating scores or music in general. If something doesn't strike my fancy, I just don't listen to it.

Score I hate?  Well, I don't really hate.
The LadyHawke score, that one I can't stand, but not for what it is, more what it should have been.  It's somewhat entertaining.

Maybe there's some small adjustment here and there by the time his sketches are sent to the scoring stage, but I bet you that no one wants to be the guy who bungles up a John Williams cue, or surprises him when he gets up to the conductor's stand. Williams knows exactly what he wants in terms of sound and orchestration and no one is going to stand in his way. That "imitation sound" could be him trying to replicate a style from many years ago that he's sort of gotten past in his everyday writing.

I just recommended this album for a friend that just break-up with his boyfriend.

What a great album. The darkness and the light. A posthumous album released in 1992, 4 years after Roy Orbison's passing. Some singles, some demos finished especially for this album.

I listened this album (and Mystery Girl, 1988) for months and months, over and over when I was a young adult...

Not all of the stylistic shifting in this score works, but this track is so muscular it sits well with past Indy setpieces. Particularly this segment, ending at 2:57...wow. Imagine how this sound with a gutsier, rougher recording like the first two Indy scores!

Ditto. Intrada's re-recording of Ivanhoe is equally wonderful but their re-recording of Julius Caesar was the first Rózsa score I ever listened to and holds a special place in my heart.

I have a feeling the London set list will be more oriented towards pop culture - as when JW plays the Bowl in LA.

I don’t mind the more ‘adult’ approach to the Vienna set list (except for the excessive Harry Potter inclusion - what the hell is going on there), but since there will be a CD released, wouldn’t it have been great to have something new on there...

It doesn’t have to be new-new, just those arrangements that never got a proper spot in the sun.

Like the new Han Solo & The Princess arrangement, and The Book Thief Oscar arrangement.

@TGP is an important voice here.  Don't frustrate him into giving up on this place!

At any rate, Zimmer/Barne's FIFA piece is okay.  It is not the most imaginative piece ever, but it gets the job done.
It doesn't show that Zimmer has no talent whatsoever: it just shows he is in a profitable comfort zone.

Flute Concerto by John Williams.  Challenging piece, but definitely rewards a careful listen.  Some very interesting moments.  Nicely structured as well.

Batman Returns by Danny Elfman.  Definitely better than the original, which I rather liked anyway.  This one has Elfman hitting his stride.  Some intriguing material, dark but whimsical.  Strong usage of themes, too, especially the Batman theme, which I feel he puts to quite good use.

JFK by John Williams.  Love this score, and not just the noble elegiac material, which, of course, is more than fantastic .  There is a vitality in the mid-album tracks as well.  The eclectic mix of material seems to capture something about the contradiction and coexistence of past and present, ideals and reality.  This is how you use electronics, at least in my book.  John does not get too overboard with them, save perhaps in "The Witnesses."  But the "Garrison Family Theme" is especially well done to my years.
Some Yamaha FM action going on there @Nick Parker?
