Popular Post Ricard 2,245
Quote Indiana Jones fans might have to wait until 2019 to see the fifth installment in Steven Spielberg’s iconic adventure series, but they won’t have to worry about the film’s signature score! Spielberg confirmed to ET on Thursday that legendary composer John Williams will be returning to score the as-yet-untitled fifth Indiana Jones feature, after lending his talents to the first four features in the Harrison Ford-starring series. “John Williams will come back and score [the film], absolutely,” the director said at the American Film Institute event honoring Williams with the AFI Life Achievement Award at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. http://www.etonline.com/movies/190737_steven_spielberg_confirms_that_john_williams_will_return_to_score_the_fifth_indiana_jones_film/ crumbs, Pieter Boelen, Bellosh and 3 others

Popular Post mrbellamy 6,287
I'm just happy that Spielberg is actually making movies instead of constantly waffling between 15 different things. Seems like his lineup is pretty damn rock solid until 2019 now, which is great for us. Add Star Wars, a new announced concert piece, the Kobe thing....it's the most we've had to look forward to in awhile. Only wish the Moctezuma movie had been in the mix. I'm not convinced Spielberg will ever make it at this point, and if he does it may end up being too late for Williams to do it. That would be such a great project. Still trying to take it one score at a time and treat each one as a special gift from my favorite composer, who I never ever expected to be working as much as he is at 84. Not only did it seem like he was starting to cool down on films for a little while there, but the concerns about his health last year and the Bridge of Spies and concert cancellations put it in a different perspective for me. Even though it turned out to be nothing to worry about, you just never know. But seeing Williams lately, I also wouldn't be that surprised anymore if he lives to be a healthy, working nonagenarian artist, which would be a beautiful thing! crumbs 14,317
Let's face it, if KOTCS wasn't such a cruddy film, the score would've been far superior to what it was. I've got no idea what film Williams was scoring when he wrote Call of the Crystal, but it sure as hell wasn't KOTCS! It's easily more evocative of an ancient evil than anything Spielberg conveyed in that mess of a film.

I am bored by the KOTCS score. the Skull theme is a b-tier motif that JW stretches out into an entire concert piece just by repeating it while increasing the volume. Irina's Theme is kind of slinky but also kind of flat. The Adventures of Mutt is ok but not memorable, and the rest is just uninteresting. Except for that little variation on the Indy theme near the end of the end credits, the entire score lacks freshness or energy.

I know and I agree, but just saying it feels like this is the furthest he's planned ahead in awhile. Usually we hear that he's vaguely in talks for things, but most of these projects have started casting with planned release dates. Of course so was Robopocalypse... Ready Player One seems really far along, though, if they've already got Williams planned to start in November. The Edgardo Mortara thing will be the kind of quickly produced Bridge of Spies/Munich deal that Spielberg does in his sleep so I'm not sure I see a cancellation for that coming and I don't see Tony Kushner running into screenplay problems late in the game. Novel adaptation, drama with religious/political themes....it's his wheelhouse. And I guess we'll see on Indy, I think it's unlikely that Spielberg will back out, though, after already making the big announcement with a release date (though the latter could always change, and this one could be more likely to run into screenplay trouble.) Again we will see. #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal and Will
