eitam reacted to mstrox in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (James Mangold, June 30 2023)
The original ending had Ford riding off into the sunset, but Mangold got so tired of the whiny chuds on the Internet that he filmed a new ending where Some Lady blows Indy up with a bazooka, puts his hat on, and says “I’m Indiana Jones now, and the real adventure is only beginning.”

On the train from Florence to Milan and, honestly, it still doesn't feel real!

Just knowing I'll be in the same city as the Maestro is quite a surreal emotion, on top of all the excitement of experiencing this beautiful country for the first time.

It definitely hasn't sunk in yet...

    Onwards!!

Spielberg has never made the critics' 100, I don't think. Jaws is in the directors' 100 list this year.

I haven't seen Jeanne Dielman, Beau Travail, Killer of Sheep, Wanda, News From Home, Contempt, Sans Soleil, Daughters of the Dust, Touki Bouki, A Brighter Summer Day, Satantango, Histoire du Cinema, Black Girl, or Tropical Malady. Some of them are just so damn long, idk. Now excuse me while I go watch LOTR again.

eitam reacted to Biodome in DID JOHN WILLIAMS COMPOSE THE IJ DIAL OF DESTINY TRAILER MUSIC?
I decided to settle the argument with a conclusive proof that John Williams wrote the trailer music. I simply asked ChatGPT, the world's most knowledgeable AI chat bot:

UPDATE: After voicing my doubts to the chat bot regarding its last reply, it suddenly decided that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a non-existent film, and, thus, no trailer, let alone trailer music, exists for it:

I don't know what to say about this album, except that it's a masterpiece on multiple levels.

It's a masterpiece of a film score - from themes to underscore to orchestration to soloist work.... I continue to be astounded by this score's many stand-out moments

It's a masterpiece of a recording - say what you want about other recordings of his, but Shawn Murphy was at the top of his game in 1997 and this recording is one of the most satisfying recordings of his I've ever had the pleasure of listening to

It's a masterpiece of album production - the main program is paced brilliantly, finally showcasing what Williams did for this film in a way the old score album couldn't come close to, and even the film does not.  The main program flows so perfectly into the bonus track section you just want to keep listening and don't even feel like you're in a bonus track section.  Any so many specific decisions were made to fit everything recorded for the score into 2 discs, but still keep a great flow throughout... Mike's instincts have never been better are how to take a big score and make it listenable.  And time I listen to a random track, I just keep listening to the album from there.

There is no album of music of any genre I've listened to more than this since getting it.  It's an amazing release and I can't wait for everyone to hear it.  It's a must-have for any Williams fan.

    Everything will be revealed soon.

Savini is a tourist trap nowadays, with mediocre food served at absurdly high prices. Don’t be fooled about the premium location in the beautiful Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. It’s very much like the cafés in St. Mark’s Square in Venice, so avoid it.

As a trusted Milanese, I will give you a few tips for good food places in the city center at reasonable prices. Let me collect ideas and will get back to you.

I thought episode 7 was the best one yet, by which I mean, legitimately good. The Elrond/Durin drama was utterly engrossing, Elendil and Miriel had some poignant moments, even Theo and Halbrand are on the verge of being interesting (I liked the latter's minute reactions to Theo and Galadriel's interaction and to the cheer on their departure). Even the Harfoot had their share of tragedy with the burning of their caravan and had to stop being so cutesy.
Part of the merit probably goes to director Charlotte Brändström, I hope the show doesn't regress when they go back to Wayne Che Yip for the last episode.

I watched that documentary a few weeks back and it was fantastic. JW features prominently and his love for the project is obvious.

Not only does he recall some fantastic anecdotes about the film's production, but he provides fascinating insight into filmmaking itself, touching on subjects like choreography, casting and shot composition. Considering how rarely he discusses subjects beyond music, it was revelatory hearing him discuss other technical aspects of filmmaking so eloquently.

And yet it makes perfect sense, considering a career spent alongside successive generations of legendary filmmakers.

Even when you think you've heard it all, my appreciation of the man continues to grow.
