Guys, we're a film music forum where political postings are not allowed, for exactly the reasons this thread proves: It leads to arguments and users personally attacking each other.

You can talk about the awards and the reasons why different people might be nominated or win, but expanding to a larger discussion of general politics is something you'll have to do in PMs or another place on the internet, not here.

    Thanks.

Now I'm just imagining at the end of The Fabelmans, JW just randomly tacks on like five of his greatest highlights that never made an album.

And yet Magical Mystery Tour made it into the soundtrack for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny!  It all makes sense now.

JW's one of the best musical storytellers though, and many of us feel that his OST albums grossly misrepresent that.

Could we now have a PROFESSIONAL orchestra and conductor doing an album with all the suites as published? I don't understand why these things don't happen for more of his published works.

Any fellow fans of the score to Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender?

It's taken almost 20 years, but it's finally getting some kind of official release! I somehow missed this news nearly two weeks ago. Super excited for it!

Okay, to summarize based on me making multiple calls to the sales office:

Tickets range in price from $109 to $175 dollars.

►You can purchase balcony section tickets NOW IF:
You are a Carnegie subscriber1 (approx. $150) You can get balcony seats now and then exchange them for better seats for free starting August 14th if better seats are available.
►You can purchase tickets NOW for any seat IF:
You are a Carnegie subscriber (approx. $150). You pay for the Gala package (donation fee of approx. $1000 ) Gala package includes the Gala event that coincides with the concert and will have more details released at a later time.
►You can purchase tickets on August 14th for any seat IF:
You are a Carnegie subscriber (approx. $150)
►Otherwise, you can purchase tickets on August 21st because that is when the ticket office opens to the general public.

    ----------
NOTE: Tickets are not refundable and all sales are final. You can only exchange tickets for free if you are a subscriber.

1 - Carnegie subscriber means you have purchased a "series subscription." There are different subscriptions you can purchase. The Williams/Ma event isn't attached to any specific series subscription. It's called an add-on event, meaning you can claim this event as one of the things you can use your subscription on. I believe he said a subscription can start at around $150 or something around there. The series subscriptions are packages for multiple concert events you can choose to claim with your series subscription. Think of it as you getting a couple tokens that you can use to cash in on Carnegie Hall events. You can spend one of those tokens on this Williams/Ma event.

Just a lot of classic Hollywood "roman" techniques like sus chords in french horn and the diminished brass stabs.  The Lost World esque timpani part reminded me of Spartacus.

I still take more issue with Thor's take that it doesn't sound Roman.  It's pretty unmistakably Roman

You say that but it did take us only three months between not knowing The Book Thief existed to having a new John Williams soundtrack in our hands. Somebody's just gotta fortuitously adapt his new favorite bestseller.

No but obviously I am only expecting him to relent to Spielberg, if he does at all. And anything by Spielberg could be fertile territory for a JW score and therefore disappointing if it didn't pan out. I want JW to go on forever. But in a very real way, I feel content not to have anything on the horizon. Sometimes we've talked about how the 2010s felt like getting bonus scores from JW but now that he's publicly considered retirement and Disney/Lucasfilm has totally blown their load on "victory lap" legacy projects, it really, REALLY feels like everything's extra frosting from here on out.

The only absolute fucking cherry on top left before he turned 100 would be a fifth Olympics theme for 2028 Los Angeles. Truly, upon hearing that, I would probably die before he did.

Definitely will be interesting to see Spielberg make something now and find out what Williams decides to do. It still seems weird to think about this being the last, but something will have to be eventually.

The big relief and truly the craziest thing to think about is that he's finally completed 4/4 of the big scores I hoped to get when Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012. Considering he was already 80, I don't know how I would have felt knowing we were ultimately looking at a 10.5 year timeline. Global pandemic somewhere in there, nbd.

Look at my damn sig. I thought I was being cautiously optimistic rooting for him to finish Episode IX at 87. IT'S BEEN 3.5 YEARS. I'm sorry, I know that everything on here goes back to his age but I'll never get over it. It's badass and it's been such a factor in anticipating these things.

More than a decade, Jesus. This really feels like coming out of a JWFan fever dream. Back to wondering if there'll be a Spielberg movie anytime soon, eh?

Saw the film yesterday with my partner -we both enjoyed it quite a bit. It's far from perfect, but I had a lot of fun. Surprised me how violent it was, sometimes it was fun and sometimes it felt like a little too much.

Anyways, regarding the score what surprised me was the fact of the tiny bits they used from KOTCS -I expected them to avoid that one and stick to the original trilogy, but hey, I think I know KOTCS from start to finish so it was a welcome surprise for me. I heard some Jungle Chase in the prologue and they seemed to have really dug this bit as they used it at least two or three times:

Sometimes it felt like they were throwing temp-track around without much thought, but all the re-recorded and re-written bits sounded great -in terms of the orchestra and room, not so much in the specific places they decided to use them. That felt like a mixed bag for me.

I gotta say though, when the end credits started I was thinking: Wow, this might be the last new Williams' score I'll hear in theaters. And as I sat watching the credits roll, I really enjoyed myself listening to the music -even if it wasn't a traditional end credits suite, as we might have hoped and liked.

Having heard the score before seeing the movie, I was humming along with all the cool melodies (old a new) the end credits suite had to offer -and I also thought: man, these are some great tunes! Listen to that orchestra! Those harmonies!

Truly great stuff. Here's hoping the maestro's got one or two more under the bag, but if he doesn't feel the need to, I feel like this is a good closure to that stage of his career.
