kelliwisethebrave reacted to crumbs in THE LAST JEDI - OST Album MUSIC Discussion (No Movie Spoilers)
Nothing wrong with divergent opinions but can we give the score more than ONE WEEK before we start obnoxiously pontificating that Williams is wasting his talent writing these scores?
Seems tone-deaf and disrespectful to Williams, who is clearly working his ass off to conform his "old fashioned" writing style into the demands of new-age filmmaking by a director who has never directed a film with music on this scale (or with a composer whose process resembles Williams'). Perhaps Rian just didn't consider himself musically literate enough to do a traditional spotting session? Maybe both parties agreed it would be easier to define Rian's vision for the score with a temp in place? We don't have the faintest idea what their collaboration was like, so enough with the holier-than-thou attitude that posters here would know better.
In any event, the end result is perfectly fine and no less original than one of those "vintage" scores like ROTS. The wrist slashing about recycled music is embarrassing, completely ignoring the leitmotif style of the scores and the glaring fact we only have half the score on album. Not to mention his integration of TFA themes is actually more inspired than in TFA itself (perhaps excepting Rey's Theme).

The Post seems to be more of the anti-war type.

kelliwisethebrave reacted to Tom in What is your biggest hope for TLJ's score?
My biggest hope score-wise would be new strong themes that fit into the universe as seamlessly as Rey's theme did.
My biggest hope music-wise is that people would leave preconceptions at the door and enjoy the music as it is, and not compare it unfavorably to some abstract, virtually unobtainable standard in their minds.

kelliwisethebrave reacted to Will in THE LAST JEDI - Disney Records OST
Remember that the good news with these December releases is that the FYC will be released only a few days after the OST! Same with The Papers, so I'd be surprised if we have any unreleased music from the latter, given that it will probably be a shorter score.

I have some incredibly fond memories of the time around TFA's release. I'm very excited to relive them with TLJ!

kelliwisethebrave reacted to Pawel P. in What to expect from Episode VIII's Score?
I expect exactly what I got with Episode 7. Top quality. I will go to the cinema the same way as before, not even knowing one new cue (except for the fragment of The Jedi Steps from TV spot). In the case of Star Wars, I'm not interested in any leaks, reviews or impression until I see the movie, I'll go home and turn on the CD. This was not easy last time, because I got The Force Awakens CD three days before the movie premiere, and I was tempted to turn it on... But it was worth the wait!

Everyone here is basically an eccentric loser who needs to post here to find other eccentric losers. This is doubly true for the people who claim not to be eccentric losers.

Here is what has been said by an orchestra member from the sessions:
"After 37 film scores he still blows me away!!... always throws something we haven't heard! " Let that be absorbed in good light. December is yet so far away!

Yes, The source music has been recorded but cant say more just yet. I guess I will be at a liberty to discuss more as the timeline approaches.

Update: probably the Final recording session is next week. Looks like the sessions are finally wrapping up. Word is Williams has done another great job. More details to be shared at the right moment.

kelliwisethebrave reacted to mrbellamy in The Force Awakens For Your Consideration (FYC) Album
It works okay but I definitely don't think it reflects Rey's stunned emotional state as evocatively as the more intimate "Burning Homestead" setting. With this the music tells me she's already made her choice the second the lightsaber hits her hand, but that's not the story. "Burning Homestead" captures the moment and Ridley's performance better, that Rey is still hesitant and weighing her decision to fight or flight until she finally turns it on. The OST version has too much immediate resolve which makes it feel kinda superficially "epic" to me.
Obviously I would have preferred a different original piece than tracking...who knows what other alternates he might have written but given just these two, "Burning Homestead" was the right choice for the film.

kelliwisethebrave reacted to Disco Stu in What to expect from Episode VIII's Score?
Good news. I'd much rather each film have its own main title recording. Gives each score a greater sense of separate character.

I didn't have any issue with it either. But I'm still really happy to get a new recording, of course.
