Wow, I almost went to that but opted not to because it would have been a long drive for me plus I’ve already been to a number of LTP concerts this year. I’m sure the Baltimore Symphony will do it eventually in the comfy confines of the Meyerhoff. I would have been miserable in the rain for sure.

Not sure if this has been posted yet. Score from ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Disqualified from Oscar Race

    https://variety.com/2018/music/awards/scores-ruled-ineligible-for-oscar-green-room-solo-1203085221/

“Solo: A Star Wars Story,” composed by John Powell with themes by John Williams, was nixed by the board as having been entered too late for the competition (deadline was Nov. 15).

How the hell does a multi-billion dollar company like Disney miss the deadline for the Oscars? Disney clearly doesn't care. Which is a shame because Solo might be my favorite score of the Disney era (TLJ, is a close second, TFA has the best themes and RO has the best single track in "Your Father Would Be Proud").

    Interesting speculation.

Well, other than having gotten a chance to speak to Emil de Cue before he led Raiders at SF Symphony in 2017, I don’t know much about how these things come to be. Of course, there are all the rights issues to sort out, but if Spielberg wanted something to happen, I suspect those would happen.

Probably the next criteria set of hurdles is technical:
Is there enough music in the film score to make sense for LTP? (I think this is the biggest knock against Saving Private Ryan - it’s fairly sparse of music)
Do the parts exists in such a way to support what is needed (all the separate elements available, pieces of music that come out of the speakers vs. orchestra)?
How long is the movie? Beyond audience ability to sit, the musicians have to be able to play. (But of course, Wagner operas are non-stop music and go for 5 hours, so this may be less of an issue)

And then we get to audience fit as the post references. What is ok to play and attract enough families? Jaws and Jurassic Park are scary movies at times, but they have done well. Raiders has killing and gruesome deaths.

Of this list, I have seen Raiders and Jaws. I’m seeing ET in February and maybe Close Encounters in April. They are all great. (I’ve also seen 2 Harry Potters, Star Trek Beyond and La La Land - which I had never seen before - but my wife wanted to go for Valentine’s Day. We are seeing Amadeus in Feb too.)

So, which collaborations do I think might work to the above restrictions?
Last Crusade seems like a good choice
Minority Report is well regarded enough and probably would be fine in performance
I agree that Lost World is possible. Hook too but seems to be forgotten nowadays by movie goers.
Catch Me If You Can with a live jazz band (this is what La La Land had and it was the best part) as well as orchestra
    Amistad (with choir)
Tintin seems like something that would work and be great internationally too.
Lincoln given the subject matter and strength of the movie

    Less likely
I would love to see 1941 but again, it’s not on anyone’s radar
Empire of the Sun with choir and a Chopin soloist would be amazing. Probably too long a film though.
    AI - too esoteric
Schindler’s List (which I would love to see) but may not play well with audiences. However, maybe if it does well in rerelease...
    The Terminal - mostly forgotten
    Always - completely forgotten
BFG, Post, etc are too new and not flashy enough.
War of the Worlds - not considered good enough
Sugarland Express - JW would not approve apparently
Temple of Doom and Crystal Skull would be great in terms of music but harder in terms of audience. But Temple of Doom would be so good to hear live!

From @indy4's review of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra concert, John Williams-Maestro of the Movies, back in 2013

I see that the SF Symphony, over the years, did all of the Spielberg/Williams films for L2P—E.T., Jaws, Raiders, and Jurassic Park.  Did Spielberg and/or Williams return for any of these concerts?  I was at the SF Symphony’s Jurassic Park concert, the 2nd show, and I didn’t see them.
I would think the two would come back for this North American premiere of CE3K-L2P in San Francisco.
Spielberg and Williams can talk to the audience about how they have adapted the score for this concert version.  In this YouTube video that @PHOENIX provided…

…this scene had no music in any of the versions of the film, but you hear it here.

Hi folks, first time poster. I just wanted to join the comments on how magical this evening was. I was in the front row, off center to the left, about ten feet from Mr. Spielberg. What a challenge deciding whether to watch Mr. Williams conduct, watch Mr. Spielberg listen to the music, or to merely lose myself in the music. I did all three, of course, constantly shifting between the three. Some highlights for me were Far and Away, War Horse, and Jaws of course. Watching Mr. Williams's expressions as he conducted with such an authoritive attention to detail, at times reaching out to various sections of the orchestra, gesturing for them to dig deep into a particular passage, was magic. Also, watching Mr. Spielberg's expression as he nodded to himself during the soft notes toward the end of Close Encounters, or how it looked like he was stabbed in the heart during the high note during the violin solo toward the end of Schindler's List, or actually making eye contact with Mr. Spielberg and exchanging goofy enthusiastic grins during The Raiders March...all incredible moments. Then, to cap it off, I confess that when they were walking off stage I couldn't help but call out "Thank you!" when they were three feet away, at which point Mr. Spielberg turned and said "Thank YOU." An unforgettable evening in so many regards. Anyway, thanks for letting me gush and blab. I recorded the whole thing on audio and it turned out pretty well, but I'm not sure I can post the whole thing to Youtube. Any ideas? Here are a few pictures I took as well...

"I would be nothing without this man." - Spielberg on Williams

The one of them smiling at the lectern is when Spielberg pronounced, "We're definitely coming back to San Francisco!"

IMO, The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra has done more LTP concerts than any orchestra in the USA.  This past summer, alone, they done 5—3 Star Wars concerts, the Little Mermaid, and Harry Potter…Chamber of Secrets
Now we know what LTP concert the SFSO is giving this summer. That leaves, maybe, 4 more. Let the guessing begin, Bay Area folks

I went to Wolf Trap, Vienna, VA for the weekend. They had a L2P weekend program—Jaws on Saturday and Casino Royale on Sunday. Wolf Trap is a type of amphitheatre where there’s this barn that is made into a theater.  The pavilion structure, where I sat, is made of wood and it’s not fully enclosed, like a conventional theater.
The Saturday for the Jaws concert got-off to a rough start.  The city of Virginia had a record of 4-inches of rain that day—this nor’easter began early in the morning and finished as late as 10pm.  I got to the theater 45 minutes before the show, but the ‘lobby’ was the outdoor park that surrounds the pavilion and we had to wait in the park—in the rain—until a half-hour before the show before we can get to our seats.  By the time we got to the aisles, we were soaked.  Despite the pavilion sheltering me from the rain, you hear raindrops hitting the wooden structure of the barn, claps of thunder, and siren blaring. Seeing the final half of Jaws where the action takes place on a boat, in the open water while you are soaking-wet in the middle of a rainstorm was a very unusual movie-going experience for me.

Nonetheless, the National Symphony Orchestra executed the score with menacing beauty, especially the brass section.  The audience was in good spirits.  They gave thunderous applause at the end of Quint’s first scene at city hall; there were laughs at the dinner scene with Brody, Ellen and Hooper; and a big cheer at the shark’s killing.

I’ll have to find another venue for the Jaws program, preferably in a conventional theater.

I'm still buzzing after last night's concert.  Here are a few more observations, for what they're worth:

The film was not subtitled, but the audio mix was absolutely fine from where I was sitting (which was at the rear of the stalls directly opposite the stage, so not usually the best part of the Royal Albert Hall for getting the optimum sound). It was great to watch a film with so many other people there only for the love of the film and / or the music.  I did not see anyone leave before the end credits had finished, which makes such a nice change from the annoying distractions at my local multiplex. When conductor Ludwig walked on stage, he received an ovation that could have been bettered only if John Williams himself had appeared.  It shows how well respected he has quickly become for leading these live to projection concerts. One of the best audience reactions greeted the Jeff Goldblum shirtless recline scene.  In fairness the internet has made it chortle worthy. The £10 programme is good value and has a nice introduction from John Williams. While a live choir would have been the absolute icing on the cake, the synthesised versions were so expertly done that I really did not notice a difference. The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra had about 84 players in total (I may have miscounted a couple either way).  If there was a single note out of place, I didn't hear it. In the cafe they were selling Jurassic Park salted caramel mousse cakes, with edible scenes from the movie on top.  I therefore munched my way through Alan, Ellie, Tim and Lex like a hungry velociraptor.
Here are a couple of dodgy photos I took (there are some much better official ones on the Royal Albert Hall website here).

My report on the Star Wars-ANH concert with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra at Prudential Hall, Newark, NJ:
I had high hopes for this because of the program’s conductor Constantine Kitsopoulos.  I was in San Francisco on Nov. 3rd when he led the SF Symphony for Jurassic Park and the brass playing was great.
I mentioned the brass section because I attended the Kennedy Center for two Star Wars concerts by the National Symphony Orchestra, under Steven Reineke—ANH and ESB—and the brass playing was very poor on both programs.  They were not pronouncing the notes as sharply as they should be. I blame both the brass section for their playing and Maestro Reineke for letting the brass section get away with it.  I have tickets for the NSO concert of RotJ by the NSO, under Reineke, and I’m dreading on going. The NSO’s brass section were better on other programs I’ve witnessed such as Jaws and Casino Royale, both conducted by Emil de Cou.

Back to the NJSO program.  When Maestro Kitsopoulos arrived on stage, he did greet the audience and encourage them to cheer, laugh, and applaud at their favorites characters—for which they did.  A few of the audience members, actually, applauded at the end of the Binary Sunset cue.  I’m happy to say that the brass section sounded great—not a lazy tongue in the bunch.  And Prudential Hall in Newark with its surrounding wood surfaces gave the orchestra—especially the brass section—a crisp sounding quality that was very pleasing to the ear when the orchestra’s reading is well done. For me, it is the best sounding performance of SW:ANH I’ve heard in a concert setting.  I think I’ll end my SW:ANH concert going, here, having gone to three, already.

Now, I’m excited to go back to Newark for ESB this January.
I hope that the orchestra can do RoTJ and TFA next season.

Yeah that's a pretty unique concert experience! I saw Jaws LTP indoors, at Symphony Hall in Boston, and it was wonderful just seeing a classic crowdpleasing movie with an enthusiastic crowd. The live music was just icing on top!

I think Jaws is one of the better LTP concerts one can elect to go to actually, since the original recording of the music isn't optimal. At a live concert you can really feel what Williams wanted you to feel from his score.

I attended the Saturday afternoon show of that concert with The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Conductor Jack Everly greeted the audience before the show where he said:
“Good afternoon, fellow members of the Resistance”
    It got a laugh.
In Maestro Everly’s defense, there was an audience member that was in a Rey costume--a bandaged face with goggles over the eyes.

I started going to these things since April.  My first was “Batman-Live” with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.  I live in the East Coast and this program was not being given anywhere near me, so, I had to brave a cross-coast flight to San Fran--my first airplane ride, ever.  The orchestra performed beautifully—the brass section was very strong.  I don’t regret my experience.

    Since then, I’ve attended these:
    Jaws- Wolf Trap-Vienna, VA
    Casino Royale-Wolf Trap-Vienna, VA
    Harry Potter…Azkaban- Wolf Trap-Vienna, VA
    Jurassic Park-Indianapolis, IN
    Get Out-Washington, DC
    Star Wars: ANH- Washington, DC
    Star Wars: ANH- Baltimore, MD
    Star Wars: ESB-Washington, DC
    Jurassic Park-San Francisco, CA

I would love to see the following:
    Aliens-Live
    Independence Day-Live

I’ve started writing letters to the artistic directors representing the orchestras/music centers in my area in my asking them to present these said programs.  For Aliens-Live, I worked in a #MeTooMovement angle in my letter.  I said that the female members of that movement will give a cathartic cheer when Ripley says the line, “Get off her, you bitch.”

Will my pleas be answered?  We’ll know during the first quarter of 2019.  That’s when the orchestras/music centers will announce their schedules for the 2019/2020 season that begins in September.  Some orchestras will have their summer-concert schedules posted during that period, also.

    Keep your fingers crossed.
